| 1 Parole qui fut adressée à Jérémie de la part de Yahvé, dans la dixième année de Sédécias, roi deJuda, c'est-à-dire la dix-huitième année de Nabuchodonosor. | 1 The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD in the tenth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, which was the eighteenth year of Nebuchadrezzar. |
| 2 L'armée du roi de Babylone assiégeait alors Jérusalem, et le prophète Jérémie se trouvait enfermédans la cour de garde, au palais du roi de Juda, | 2 At that time the army of the king of Babylon was besieging Jerusalem, and Jeremiah the prophet was shut up in the court of the guard which was in the palace of the king of Judah. |
| 3 où Sédécias, roi de Juda, l'avait fait enfermer en lui disant: "Pourquoi prophétises-tu en ces termes:Ainsi parle Yahvé. Voici, je vais livrer cette ville aux mains du roi de Babylone pour qu'il la prenne; | 3 For Zedekiah king of Judah had imprisoned him, saying, "Why do you prophesy and say, 'Thus says the LORD: Behold, I am giving this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall take it; |
| 4 Sédécias, roi de Juda, n'échappera pas au pouvoir des Chaldéens, mais sûrement il sera livré auxmains du roi de Babylone et pourra l'entretenir face à face et le regarder les yeux dans les yeux; | 4 Zedekiah king of Judah shall not escape out of the hand of the Chaldeans, but shall surely be given into the hand of the king of Babylon, and shall speak with him face to face and see him eye to eye; |
| 5 à Babylone il emmènera Sédécias qui y restera (jusqu'à ce que je le visite, oracle de Yahvé. Sivous combattez les Chaldéens, vous ne réussirez pas"). | 5 and he shall take Zedekiah to Babylon, and there he shall remain until I visit him, says the LORD; though you fight against the Chaldeans, you shall not succeed'?" |
| 6 Or Jérémie dit: La parole de Yahvé m'a été adressée en ces termes: | 6 Jeremiah said, "The word of the LORD came to me: |
| 7 Voici, Hanaméel, fils de ton oncle Shallum, va venir te trouver pour te dire: "Achète mon champd'Anatot car tu as droit de rachat pour l'acquérir." | 7 Behold, Hanamel the son of Shallum your uncle will come to you and say, 'Buy my field which is at Anathoth, for the right of redemption by purchase is yours.' |
| 8 Mon cousin Hanaméel vint me trouver selon la parole de Yahvé, dans la cour de garde, et il me dit:"Achète donc mon champ d'Anatot, au pays de Benjamin, car tu as droit d'héritage et droit de rachat, achète-le."Je reconnus alors que c'était un ordre de Yahvé. | 8 Then Hanamel my cousin came to me in the court of the guard, in accordance with the word of the LORD, and said to me, 'Buy my field which is at Anathoth in the land of Benjamin, for the right of possession and redemption is yours; buy it for yourself.' Then I knew that this was the word of the LORD. |
| 9 J'achetai donc ce champ à mon cousin Hanaméel d'Anatot et lui pesai l'argent: dix-sept siclesd'argent. | 9 "And I bought the field at Anathoth from Hanamel my cousin, and weighed out the money to him, seventeen shekels of silver. |
| 10 Je rédigeai l'acte et le scellai, je pris des témoins et je pesai l'argent avec une balance. | 10 I signed the deed, sealed it, got witnesses, and weighed the money on scales. |
| 11 Puis je pris l'acte d'acquisition, son exemplaire scellé (avec les stipulations et les clauses) et sonexemplaire ouvert, | 11 Then I took the sealed deed of purchase, containing the terms and conditions, and the open copy; |
| 12 et je remis l'acte d'acquisition à Baruch, fils de Nériyya, fils de Mahséya, en présence de moncousin Hanaméel et des témoins signataires de l'acte d'acquisition, et en présence de tous les Judéens qui setrouvaient dans la cour de garde. | 12 and I gave the deed of purchase to Baruch the son of Neriah son of Mahseiah, in the presence of Hanamel my cousin, in the presence of the witnesses who signed the deed of purchase, and in the presence of all the Jews who were sitting in the court of the guard. |
| 13 Devant eux, je donnai cet ordre à Baruch: | 13 I charged Baruch in their presence, saying, |
| 14 "Ainsi parle Yahvé Sabaot, le Dieu d'Israël. Prends ces documents, cet acte d'acquisition,l'exemplaire scellé comme la copie ouverte, et mets-les dans un vase de terre de façon qu'ils se conserventlongtemps. | 14 'Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Take these deeds, both this sealed deed of purchase and this open deed, and put them in an earthenware vessel, that they may last for a long time. |
| 15 Car ainsi parle Yahvé Sabaot, le Dieu d'Israël: On achètera encore des maisons, des champs etdes vignes en ce pays." | 15 For thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Houses and fields and vineyards shall again be bought in this land.' |
| 16 Après avoir confié l'acte d'acquisition à Baruch, fils de Nériyya, j'adressai cette prière à Yahvé: | 16 "After I had given the deed of purchase to Baruch the son of Neriah, I prayed to the LORD, saying: |
| 17 "Ah! Seigneur Yahvé, voici que tu as fait le ciel et la terre par ta grande puissance et ton brasétendu. A toi rien n'est impossible! | 17 'Ah Lord GOD! It is thou who hast made the heavens and the earth by thy great power and by thy outstretched arm! Nothing is too hard for thee, |
| 18 Tu fais grâce à des milliers, mais punis la faute des pères, à pleine mesure, sur leurs fils aprèseux. O Dieu grand et fort dont le nom est Yahvé Sabaot, | 18 who showest steadfast love to thousands, but dost requite the guilt of fathers to their children after them, O great and mighty God whose name is the LORD of hosts, |
| 19 grand dans tes desseins, puissant dans tes hauts faits, toi dont les yeux sont ouverts sur toutes lesvoies des humains pour rendre à chacun selon sa conduite et d'après le fruit de ses actes! | 19 great in counsel and mighty in deed; whose eyes are open to all the ways of men, rewarding every man according to his ways and according to the fruit of his doings; |
| 20 Toi qui produisis signes et prodiges au pays d'Egypte, et jusqu'aujourd'hui en Israël et parmi leshommes. Tu t'es fait un nom, comme on le voit aujourd'hui. | 20 who hast shown signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, and to this day in Israel and among all mankind, and hast made thee a name, as at this day. |
| 21 Tu fis sortir ton peuple Israël du pays d'Egypte par signes et prodiges, à main forte et à brasétendu, et par une grande terreur. | 21 Thou didst bring thy people Israel out of the land of Egypt with signs and wonders, with a strong hand and outstretched arm, and with great terror; |
| 22 Puis tu leur donnas ce pays que tu avais promis par serment à leurs pères, pays qui ruisselle delait et de miel. | 22 and thou gavest them this land, which thou didst swear to their fathers to give them, a land flowing with milk and honey; |
| 23 Ils vinrent dont et en prirent possession, mais ils n'écoutèrent pas ta voix et ne marchèrent passelon ta Loi: ils ne pratiquèrent rien de ce que tu leur avais ordonné, alors tu fis venir sur eux tout ce malheur. | 23 and they entered and took possession of it. But they did not obey thy voice or walk in thy law; they did nothing of all thou didst command them to do. Therefore thou hast made all this evil come upon them. |
| 24 Voici que les terrassements pour l'assaut atteignent la ville; par l'épée, la famine et la peste, elleest livrée aux mains des Chaldéens qui l'attaquent. Ce que tu as dit arrive, et tu le vois. | 24 Behold, the siege mounds have come up to the city to take it, and because of sword and famine and pestilence the city is given into the hands of the Chaldeans who are fighting against it. What thou didst speak has come to pass, and behold, thou seest it. |
| 25 Et c'est toi, Seigneur Yahvé qui me dis: Achète ce champ à prix d'argent et prends des témoins,alors que la ville est livrée aux mains des Chaldéens!" | 25 Yet thou, O Lord GOD, hast said to me, "Buy the field for money and get witnesses"--though the city is given into the hands of the Chaldeans.'" |
| 26 Or la parole de Yahvé me fut adressée en ces termes: | 26 The word of the LORD came to Jeremiah: |
| 27 Voici, je suis Yahvé, le Dieu de toute chair; y a-t-il pour moi quelque chose d'impossible? | 27 "Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh; is anything too hard for me? |
| 28 C'est pourquoi, ainsi parle Yahvé: Je vais livrer cette ville aux mains des Chaldéens et aux mainsde Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, qui la prendra; | 28 Therefore, thus says the LORD: Behold, I am giving this city into the hands of the Chaldeans and into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and he shall take it. |
| 29 les Chaldéens qui attaquent cette ville entreront et y mettront le feu; ils brûleront les maisons surle toit desquelles on a allumé l'encens pour Baal et répandu des libations en l'honneur de dieux étrangers pourm'irriter. | 29 The Chaldeans who are fighting against this city shall come and set this city on fire, and burn it, with the houses on whose roofs incense has been offered to Baal and drink offerings have been poured out to other gods, to provoke me to anger. |
| 30 Car les enfants d'Israël et ceux de Juda n'ont fait, depuis leur jeunesse, que ce qui est mal à mesyeux (les enfants d'Israël, en effet, n'ont fait que m'irriter par l'oeuvre de leurs mains - oracle de Yahvé). | 30 For the sons of Israel and the sons of Judah have done nothing but evil in my sight from their youth; the sons of Israel have done nothing but provoke me to anger by the work of their hands, says the LORD. |
| 31 Oui, cette ville a été pour moi un sujet de colère et de fureur, depuis le jour où on l'a bâtiejusqu'aujourd'hui; j'en viendrai à l'ôter de devant ma face, | 31 This city has aroused my anger and wrath, from the day it was built to this day, so that I will remove it from my sight |
| 32 à cause de tout le mal que les enfants d'Israël et les enfants de Juda ont commis pour m'irriter,eux, leurs rois, leurs princes, leurs prêtres, leurs prophètes, les hommes de Juda et les habitants de Jérusalem. | 32 because of all the evil of the sons of Israel and the sons of Judah which they did to provoke me to anger--their kings and their princes, their priests and their prophets, the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem. |
| 33 Ils ont tourné vers moi le dos, non la face, et quand je les instruisais avec constance et sans melasser, aucun ne m'écoutait pour accueillir la leçon. | 33 They have turned to me their back and not their face; and though I have taught them persistently they have not listened to receive instruction. |
| 34 Ils ont installé leurs Horreurs dans le Temple qui porte mon nom pour le souiller. | 34 They set up their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to defile it. |
| 35 Ils ont construit les hauts lieux de Baal dans la vallée de Ben-Hinnom pour faire passer par le feuleurs fils et leurs filles en l'honneur de Molek - ce que je n'avais point ordonné, ce à quoi je n'avais jamais songé:commettre une telle abomination pour faire pécher Juda! | 35 They built the high places of Baal in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to offer up their sons and daughters to Molech, though I did not command them, nor did it enter into my mind, that they should do this abomination, to cause Judah to sin. |
| 36 C'est pourquoi, maintenant, ainsi parle Yahvé, le Dieu d'Israël, à propos de cette ville dont tuviens de dire: "Par l'épée, la famine et la peste, elle est livrée au roi de Babylone." | 36 "Now therefore thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, concerning this city of which you say, 'It is given into the hand of the king of Babylon by sword, by famine, and by pestilence: |
| 37 Moi, je vais les rassembler de tous les pays où je les ai chassés dans ma colère, ma fureur et magrande indignation; en ce lieu je les ramènerai et les ferai demeurer en sécurité. | 37 Behold, I will gather them from all the countries to which I drove them in my anger and my wrath and in great indignation; I will bring them back to this place, and I will make them dwell in safety. |
| 38 Alors ils seront mon peuple et moi, je serai leur Dieu. | 38 And they shall be my people, and I will be their God. |
| 39 Je leur donnerai un seul coeur et une seule manière d'agir, de façon qu'ils me craignent toujours,pour leur bien et celui de leurs enfants après eux. | 39 I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear me for ever, for their own good and the good of their children after them. |
| 40 Je conclurai avec eux une alliance éternelle: je ne cesserai pas de les suivre pour leur faire dubien et je mettrai ma crainte en leur coeur pour qu'ils ne s'écartent plus de moi. | 40 I will make with them an everlasting covenant, that I will not turn away from doing good to them; and I will put the fear of me in their hearts, that they may not turn from me. |
| 41 Je trouverai ma joie à leur faire du bien et je les planterai solidement en ce pays, de tout moncoeur et de toute mon âme. | 41 I will rejoice in doing them good, and I will plant them in this land in faithfulness, with all my heart and all my soul. |
| 42 Car ainsi parle Yahvé. De même que j'ai amené sur ce peuple tout cet immense malheur, demême je leur amènerai tout le bien que je leur promets. | 42 "For thus says the LORD: Just as I have brought all this great evil upon this people, so I will bring upon them all the good that I promise them. |
| 43 On achètera des champs en ce pays dont tu dis: "C'est une solitude, sans hommes ni bêtes, il estlivré aux mains des Chaldéens." | 43 Fields shall be bought in this land of which you are saying, It is a desolation, without man or beast; it is given into the hands of the Chaldeans. |
| 44 On achètera des champs à prix d'argent, on rédigera un acte, on le scellera et on prendra destémoins au pays de Benjamin, aux alentours de Jérusalem, dans les villes de Juda, dans celles de la Montagne, duBas-Pays et du Négeb. Car je ramènerai leurs captifs, oracle de Yahvé. | 44 Fields shall be bought for money, and deeds shall be signed and sealed and witnessed, in the land of Benjamin, in the places about Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, in the cities of the hill country, in the cities of the Shephelah, and in the cities of the Negeb; for I will restore their fortunes, says the LORD." |
