Livre de Jérémie 22

JERUSALEM	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Ainsi parla Yahvé: Descends au palais du roi de Juda; là, tu prononceras cette parole:	1 The LORD told me this: Go down to the palace of the king of Judah and there deliver this message:
2 Ecoute la parole de Yahvé, ô roi de Juda qui sièges sur le trône de David, toi, ainsi que tesserviteurs et tes gens qui entrent par ces portes.	2 You shall say: Listen to the word of the LORD, king of Judah, who sit on the throne of David, you, your ministers, and your people that enter by these gates!
3 Ainsi parle Yahvé: Pratiquez le droit et la justice; tirez l'exploité des mains de l'oppresseur;l'étranger, l'orphelin et la veuve, ne les maltraitez pas, ne les outragez pas; le sang innocent, ne le versez pas ence lieu.	3 Thus says the LORD: Do what is right and just. Rescue the victim from the hand of his oppressor. Do not wrong or oppress the resident alien, the orphan, or the widow, and do not shed innocent blood in this place.
4 Car si vous vous appliquez à observer cette parole, alors, par les portes de ce palais, des roissiégeant sur le trône de David feront leur entrée, montés sur des chars et des chevaux, eux, leurs serviteurs etleurs gens.	4 If you carry out these commands, kings who succeed to the throne of David will continue to enter the gates of this palace, riding in chariots or mounted on horses, with their ministers, and their people.
5 Mais si vous n'écoutez pas ces paroles, je le jure par moi-même - oracle de Yahvé - ce palaisdeviendra une ruine.	5 But if you do not obey these commands, I swear by myself, says the LORD: this palace shall become rubble.
6 Oui, ainsi parle Yahvé au sujet du palais du roi de Juda: Tu es pour moi Galaad et la cime duLiban. Pourtant je vais te réduire en désert, en villes inhabitées.	6 For thus says the LORD concerning the palace of the king of Judah: Though you be to me like Gilead, like the peak of Lebanon, I will turn you into a waste, a city uninhabited.
7 Je voue contre toi des destructeurs, chacun avec ses armes; ils abattront les plus beaux de tescèdres et les jetteront au feu.	7 Against you I will send destroyers, each with his axe: They shall cut down your choice cedars, and cast them into the fire.
8 Et quand des nations nombreuses passeront près de cette ville, les gens se diront entre eux:"Pourquoi Yahvé a-t-il traité de la sorte cette grande cité?"	8 Many people will pass by this city and ask one another: "Why has the LORD done this to so great a city?"
9 On répondra: "C'est qu'ils ont abandonné l'alliance de Yahvé leur Dieu, pour se prosterner devantd'autres dieux et les servir."	9 And the answer will be given: "Because they have deserted their covenant with the LORD, their God, by worshiping and serving strange gods."
10 Ne pleurez pas celui qui est mort, ne le plaignez pas. Pleurez plutôt celui qui est parti, car il nereviendra plus, il ne verra plus son pays natal.	10 Weep not for him who is dead, mourn not for him! Weep rather for him who is going away; never again will he see the land of his birth.
11 Car ainsi a parlé Yahvé au sujet de Shallum, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, qui régna à la place de sonpère Josias et dut quitter ce lieu: il n'y reviendra plus,	11 Thus says the LORD concerning Shallum, son of Josiah, king of Judah, who succeeded his father as king. He has left this place never to return.
12 mais dans le lieu où on l'emmena prisonnier, il mourra; et ce pays-ci, jamais il ne le reverra.	12 Rather, he shall die in the place where they exiled him; this land he shall not see again.
13 Malheur à qui bâtit sa maison sans la justice et ses chambres hautes sans le droit, qui faittravailler son prochain pour rien et ne lui verse pas de salaire,	13 Woe to him who builds his house on wrong, his terraces on injustice; Who works his neighbor without pay, and gives him no wages.
14 qui se dit: "Je vais me bâtir un palais spacieux avec de vastes chambres hautes", qui y perce desouvertures, le recouvre de cèdre et le peint en rouge.	14 Who says, "I will build myself a spacious house, with airy rooms," Who cuts out windows for it, panels it with cedar, and paints it with vermillion.
15 Règnes-tu parce que tu as la passion du cèdre? Ton père ne mangeait-il et ne buvait-il pas? Maisil pratiquait le droit et la justice! Alors, pour lui tout allait bien.	15 Must you prove your rank among kings by competing with them in cedar? Did not your father eat and drink? He did what was right and just, and it went well with him.
16 Il jugeait la cause du pauvre et du malheureux. Alors, tout allait bien. Me connaître, n'est-ce pascela? - oracle de Yahvé -	16 Because he dispensed justice to the weak and the poor, it went well with him. Is this not true knowledge of me? says the LORD.
17 Mais rien ne captive tes yeux et ton coeur sinon ton intérêt propre, le sang innocent à répandre,oppression et violence à perpétrer.	17 But your eyes and heart are set on nothing except on your own gain, On shedding innocent blood, on practicing oppression and extortion.
18 C'est pourquoi, ainsi parle Yahvé au sujet de Joiaqim, fils de Josias, roi de Juda. Pour lui, point delamentation: "Hélas! mon frère! Hélas! ô soeur!" Pour lui, point de lamentation: "Hélas! Seigneur! Hélas! saMajesté!"	18 Therefore, thus says the LORD concerning Jehoiakim, son of Josiah, king of Judah: They shall not lament him, "Alas! my brother"; "Alas! sister." They shall not lament him, "Alas, Lord! alas, Majesty!"
19 Il sera enterré comme on enterre un âne! Il sera traîné et jeté loin des portes de Jérusalem!	19 The burial of an ass shall he be given, dragged forth and cast out beyond the gates of Jerusalem.
20 Monte sur le Liban pour crier, sur le Bashân donne de la voix, crie du haut des Abarim, car toustes amants sont écrasés!	20 Scale Lebanon and cry out, in Bashan lift up your voice; Cry out from Abarim, for all your lovers are crushed.
21 Je t'ai parlé au temps de ta sécurité; tu as dit: "Je n'écouterai pas!" Ce fut ton comportementdepuis ta jeunesse de ne pas écouter ma voix.	21 I spoke to you when you were secure, but you answered, "I will not listen." This has been your way from your youth, not to listen to my voice.
22 Tous tes pasteurs, le vent les enverra paître et tes amants partiront en exil. Oui, tu seras alorshonteuse et rougissante de toute ta perversité.	22 The wind shall shepherd all your shepherds, your lovers shall go into exile. Surely then you shall be ashamed and confounded because of all your wickedness.
23 Toi qui as établi ta demeure sur le Liban, ton nid parmi les cèdres, comme tu vas gémir quand desdouleurs te viendront, des affres, comme à celle qui accouche!	23 You who dwell on Lebanon, who nest in the cedars, How you shall groan when pains come upon you, like the pangs of a woman in travail!
24 Par ma vie - oracle de Yahvé - même si Konias, fils de Joiaqim, roi de Juda, était un anneau à mamain droite, je t'arracherais de là!	24 As I live, says the LORD, if you, Coniah, son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, are a signet ring on my right hand, I will snatch you from it.
25 Je vais te livrer aux mains de ceux qui en veulent à ta vie, aux mains de ceux qui te font trembler,aux mains de Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, et aux mains des Chaldéens.	25 I will deliver you into the hands of those who seek your life; the hands of those whom you fear; the hands of Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, and the Chaldeans.
26 Je te jetterai, toi et ta mère qui t'as enfanté, dans un autre pays: vous n'y êtes pas nés mais vous ymourrez.	26 I will cast you out, you and the mother who bore you, into a different land from the one you were born in; and there you shall die.
27 Et ce pays où ils désirent ardemment revenir, ils n'y reviendront pas!	27 Neither of them shall come back to the land for which they yearn.
28 Est-ce un ustensile vil et cassé cet homme, ce Konias, est-ce un objet dont personne ne veut?Pourquoi sont-ils chassés, lui et sa race, jetés dans un pays qu'ils ne connaissaient point?	28 Is this man Coniah a vessel despised, to be broken up, an instrument that no one wants? Why are he and his descendants cast out? why thrown into a land they know not?
29 Terre! terre! terre! écoute la parole de Yahvé.	29 O land, land, land, hear the word of the LORD--
30 Ainsi parle Yahvé: Inscrivez cet homme: "Sans enfants, quelqu'un qui n'a pas réussi en sontemps." Car nul de sa race ne réussira à siéger sur le trône de David et à dominer en Juda.	30 Thus says the LORD: Write this man down as one childless, who will never thrive in his lifetime! No descendant of his shall achieve a seat on the throne of David as ruler again over Judah.
