JERUSALEM	KING JAMES BIBLE
1 Le roi d'Egypte rassembla des forces nombreuses comme le sable qui est sur le bord de lamer, ainsi que beaucoup de vaisseaux, et il chercha à s'emparer par ruse du royaume d'Alexandre pour l'ajouter àson propre royaume.	1 And the king of Egypt gathered together a great host, like the sand that lieth upon the sea shore, and many ships, and went about through deceit to get Alexander's kingdom, and join it to his own.
2 Il s'en vint en Syrie avec des paroles de paix, les gens des villes lui ouvraient leurs portes etvenaient à sa rencontre parce que l'ordre du roi Alexandre était de le recevoir, car il était son beau-père.	2 Whereupon he took his journey into Spain in peaceable manner, so as they of the cities opened unto him, and met him: for king Alexander had commanded them so to do, because he was his brother in law.
3 Mais dès qu'il entrait dans les villes, Ptolémée casernait des troupes en garnison dans chaqueville.	3 Now as Ptolemee entered into the cities, he set in every one of them a garrison of soldiers to keep it.
4 Lorsqu'il approcha d'Azôtos, on lui montra le sanctuaire de Dagôn incendié, Azôtos et sesenvirons ravagés, les cadavres épars, et les restes calcinés de ceux que Jonathan avait brûlés dans la guerre, carils en avaient fait des tas sur le parcours du roi.	4 And when he came near to Azotus, they shewed him the temple of Dagon that was burnt, and Azotus and the suburbs thereof that were destroyed, and the bodies that were cast abroad and them that he had burnt in the battle; for they had made heaps of them by the way where he should pass.
5 Et ils racontèrent au roi ce qu'avait fait Jonathan pour qu'il le blâmât, mais le roi garda lesilence.	5 Also they told the king whatsoever Jonathan had done, to the intent he might blame him: but the king held his peace.
6 Et Jonathan vint à la rencontre du roi à Joppé avec apparat, ils échangèrent des salutations etcouchèrent en ce lieu.	6 Then Jonathan met the king with great pomp at Joppa, where they saluted one another, and lodged.
7 Jonathan accompagna le roi jusqu'au fleuve appelé Eleuthère, puis revint à Jérusalem.	7 Afterward Jonathan, when he had gone with the king to the river called Eleutherus, returned again to Jerusalem.
8 Quant au roi Ptolémée, il se rendit maître des villes de la côte jusqu'à Séleucie-sur-Mer; ilméditait de mauvais desseins contre Alexandre.	8 King Ptolemee therefore, having gotten the dominion of the cities by the sea unto Seleucia upon the sea coast, imagined wicked counsels against Alexander.
9 Il envoya des ambassadeurs au roi Démétrius pour lui dire: "Viens, concluons ensemble untraité: je te donnerai ma fille que possède Alexandre et tu régneras sur le royaume de ton père.	9 Whereupon he sent ambasadors unto king Demetrius, saying, Come, let us make a league betwixt us, and I will give thee my daughter whom Alexander hath, and thou shalt reign in thy father's kingdom:
10 Je me repens de lui avoir donné ma fille, car il a cherché à me tuer."	10 For I repent that I gave my daughter unto him, for he sought to slay me.
11 Il lui reprochait cela parce qu'il convoitait son royaume.	11 Thus did he slander him, because he was desirous of his kingdom.
12 Ayant enlevé sa fille, il la donna à Démétrius; il changea d'attitude avec Alexandre et leurinimitié devint manifeste.	12 Wherefore he took his daughter from him, and gave her to Demetrius, and forsook Alexander, so that their hatred was openly known.
13 Ptolémée fit son entrée à Antioche et ceignit le diadème de l'Asie, de sorte qu'il mit à sonfront deux diadèmes, celui d'Egypte et celui d'Asie.	13 Then Ptolemee entered into Antioch, where he set two crowns upon his head, the crown of Asia, and of Egypt.
14 Le roi Alexandre se trouvait en Cilicie en ce temps-là, parce que les gens de cette contrées'étaient révoltés.	14 In the mean season was king Alexander in Cilicia, because those that dwelt in those parts had revolted from him.
15 Alexandre, instruit de tout cela, s'avança contre lui pour livrer bataille; Ptolémée de soncôté se mit en mouvement, marcha à sa rencontre avec une forte armée et le mit en fuite.	15 But when Alexander heard of this, he came to war against him: whereupon king Ptolemee brought forth his host, and met him with a mighty power, and put him to flight.
16 Alexandre s'enfuit en Arabie pour y trouver un refuge, et le roi Ptolémée triompha.	16 So Alexander fled into Arabia there to be defended; but king Ptolemee was exalted:
17 L'Arabe Zabdiel trancha la tête d'Alexandre et l'envoya à Ptolémée.	17 For Zabdiel the Arabian took off Alexander's head, and sent it unto Ptolemee.
18 Le roi Ptolémée mourut le surlendemain et les Egyptiens qui étaient dans ses places fortesfurent tués par les habitants de celles-ci.	18 King Ptolemee also died the third day after, and they that were in the strong holds were slain one of another.
19 Démétrius devint roi en l'année 167.	19 By this means Demetrius reigned in the hundred threescore and seventh year.
20 En ces jours-là, Jonathan réunit ceux de la Judée pour attaquer la Citadelle qui est àJérusalem et ils dressèrent contre elle de nombreuses machines.	20 At the same time Jonathan gathered together them that were in Judea to take the tower that was in Jerusalem: and he made many engines of war against it.
21 Alors des gens haïssant leur nation, des vauriens, s'en allèrent trouver le roi pour luiannoncer que Jonathan faisait le siège de la Citadelle.	21 Then came ungodly persons, who hated their own people, went unto the king, and told him that Jonathan besieged the tower,
22 A cette nouvelle, le roi fut irrité et, aussitôt averti, il partit sans retard et vint à Ptolémaïs. Ilécrivit à Jonathan de cesser le siège et de venir le trouver pour conférer avec lui à Ptolémaïs le plus vite possible.	22 Whereof when he heard, he was angry, and immediately removing, he came to Ptolemais, and wrote unto Jonathan, that he should not lay siege to the tower, but come and speak with him at Ptolemais in great haste.
23 Dès qu'il eut reçu cet avis, Jonathan ordonna de poursuivre le siège, choisit pourcompagnons des anciens d'Israël et des prêtres, et se livra lui-même au danger.	23 Nevertheless Jonathan, when he heard this, commanded to besiege it still: and he chose certain of the elders of Israel and the priests, and put himself in peril;
24 Prenant avec lui de l'argent, de l'or, des vêtements et autres cadeaux en quantité, il se renditauprès du roi à Ptolémaïs et trouva grâce à ses yeux.	24 And took silver and gold, and raiment, and divers presents besides, and went to Ptolemais unto the king, where he found favour in his sight.
25 Certains mécréants de la nation portaient contre lui des accusations,	25 And though certain ungodly men of the people had made complaints against him,
26 mais le roi agit avec lui comme avaient agi ses prédécesseurs et il l'exalta en présence detous ses amis.	26 Yet the king entreated him as his predecessors had done before, and promoted him in the sight of all his friends,
27 Il lui confirma la grand-prêtrise et toutes les autres distinctions qu'il avait auparavant, et ille fit compter parmi les premiers amis.	27 And confirmed him in the high priesthood, and in all the honours that he had before, and gave him preeminence among his chief friends.
28 Jonathan demanda au roi d'exempter d'impôts la Judée, ainsi que les trois toparchies de laSamaritide, lui promettant en retour 300 talents.	28 Then Jonathan desired the king, that he would make Judea free from tribute, as also the three governments, with the country of Samaria; and he promised him three hundred talents.
29 Le roi consentit et écrivit à Jonathan sur tout ceci une lettre tournée de cette manière:	29 So the king consented, and wrote letters unto Jonathan of all these things after this manner:
30 "Le roi Démétrius à Jonathan, son frère, et à la nation des Juifs, salut.	30 King Demetrius unto his brother Jonathan, and unto the nation of the Jews, sendeth greeting:
31 La copie de la lettre que nous avons écrite à votre sujet à Lasthène notre parent, nous vousl'adressons aussi afin que vous en preniez connaissance:	31 We send you here a copy of the letter which we did write unto our cousin Lasthenes concerning you, that ye might see it.
32 Le roi Démétrius à Lasthène, son père, salut.	32 King Demetrius unto his father Lasthenes sendeth greeting:
33 A la nation des Juifs qui sont nos amis et observent ce qui est juste envers nous, noussommes décidés à faire du bien à cause des bons sentiments qu'ils ont à notre égard.	33 We are determined to do good to the people of the Jews, who are our friends, and keep covenants with us, because of their good will toward us.
34 Nous leur confirmons et le territoire de la Judée et les trois nomes d'Aphéréma, de Lyddaet de Ramathaïm. Ils ont été ajoutés de la Samarie à la Judée, ainsi que toutes leurs dépendances, en faveur detous ceux qui sacrifient à Jérusalem, en échange des redevances régaliennes que le roi y percevait auparavantchaque année sur les produits de la terre et les fruits des arbres.	34 Wherefore we have ratified unto them the borders of Judea, with the three governments of Apherema and Lydda and Ramathem, that are added unto Judea from the country of Samaria, and all things appertaining unto them, for all such as do sacrifice in Jerusalem, instead of the payments which the king received of them yearly aforetime out of the fruits of the earth and of trees.
35 Quant aux autres droits que nous avons sur les dîmes et les impôts qui nous reviennent, surles marais salants et les couronnes qui nous étaient dues, à dater de ce jour nous leur en faisons remise totale.	35 And as for other things that belong unto us, of the tithes and customs pertaining unto us, as also the saltpits, and the crown taxes, which are due unto us, we discharge them of them all for their relief.
36 Il ne sera dérogé en rien à toutes ces faveurs, désormais et en aucun pays.	36 And nothing hereof shall be revoked from this time forth for ever.
37 Ayez donc soin d'en faire une copie qui soit donnée à Jonathan et placée sur la montagnesainte en un lieu apparent."	37 Now therefore see that thou make a copy of these things, and let it be delivered unto Jonathan, and set upon the holy mount in a conspicuous place.
38 Le roi Démétrius, voyant que le pays était en repos sous sa direction et que rien ne luioffrait de résistance, renvoya toute son armée, chacun dans son foyer, sauf les forces étrangères qu'il avaitrecrutées dans les îles des nations. Aussi toutes les troupes qu'il tenait de ses pères se mirent à le haïr.	38 After this, when king Demetrius saw that the land was quiet before him, and that no resistance was made against him, he sent away all his forces, every one to his own place, except certain bands of strangers, whom he had gathered from the isles of the heathen: wherefore all the forces of his fathers hated him.
39 Or Tryphon, ancien partisan d'Alexandre, s'apercevant que toutes les troupes murmuraientcontre Démétrius, se rendit chez Iamlikou l'Arabe qui élevait Antiochus, le jeune fils d'Alexandre.	39 Moreover there was one Tryphon, that had been of Alexander's part afore, who, seeing that all the host murmured against Demetrius, went to Simalcue the Arabian that brought up Antiochus the young son of Alexander,
40 Il lui demandait avec insistance de lui livrer l'enfant pour qu'il régnât à la place de sonpère. Il le mit au courant de tout ce qu'avait ordonné Démétrius et de la haine que lui portaient ses armées. Ilresta là de longs jours.	40 And lay sore upon him to deliver him this young Antiochus, that he might reign in his father's stead: he told him therefore all that Demetrius had done, and how his men of war were at enmity with him, and there he remained a long season.
41 Cependant Jonathan envoyait demander au roi Démétrius de faire sortir de la Citadelle deJérusalem et des autres forteresses leurs garnisons toujours en guerre avec Israël.	41 In the mean time Jonathan sent unto king Demetrius, that he would cast those of the tower out of Jerusalem, and those also in the fortresses: for they fought against Israel.
42 Démétrius envoya dire à Jonathan: "Non seulement je ferai cela pour toi et pour ta nation,mais je te comblerai d'honneurs ainsi que ta nation dès que j'en trouverai l'occasion favorable.	42 So Demetrius sent unto Jonathan, saying, I will not only do this for thee and thy people, but I will greatly honour thee and thy nation, if opportunity serve.
43 Pour le moment tu ferais bien d'expédier des hommes à mon secours, car toutes mesarmées ont fait défection."	43 Now therefore thou shalt do well, if thou send me men to help me; for all my forces are gone from me.
44 Jonathan lui envoya à Antioche 3.000 hommes aguerris; quand ils arrivèrent chez le roi,celui-ci se réjouit de leur venue.	44 Upon this Jonathan sent him three thousand strong men unto Antioch: and when they came to the king, the king was very glad of their coming.
45 Les gens de la ville se massèrent au centre de la ville au nombre de près de 120.000 dansl'intention de faire périr le roi.	45 Howbeit they that were of the city gathered themselves together into the midst of the city, to the number of an hundred and twenty thousand men, and would have slain the king.
46 Celui-ci se réfugia dans le palais tandis que les citadins occupaient les rues de la ville etcommençaient l'attaque.	46 Wherefore the king fled into the court, but they of the city kept the passages of the city, and began to fight.
47 Aussi le roi appela-t-il à son aide les Juifs, qui se rassemblèrent tous auprès de lui, pour serépandre à travers la ville et y tuer ce jour-là jusqu'à 100.000 habitants.	47 Then the king called to the Jews for help, who came unto him all at once, and dispersing themselves through the city slew that day in the city to the number of an hundred thousand.
48 Ils incendièrent la ville, faisant en même temps un butin considérable: c'est ainsi qu'ilssauvèrent le roi.	48 Also they set fire on the city, and gat many spoils that day, and delivered the king.
49 Lorsque les gens de la ville virent que les Juifs s'étaient rendus maîtres de la ville commeils voulaient, ils perdirent courage et firent entendre au roi des cris suppliants.	49 So when they of the city saw that the Jews had got the city as they would, their courage was abated: wherefore they made supplication to the king, and cried, saying,
50 "Donne-nous la main droite et que les Juifs cessent de combattre contre nous et contre laville!"	50 Grant us peace, and let the Jews cease from assaulting us and the city.
51 Ils jetèrent leurs armes et firent la paix. Les Juifs furent couverts de gloire en présence duroi et devant tous ceux qui font partie de son royaume. S'étant fait un nom dans ses états, ils revinrent àJérusalem chargés d'un riche butin.	51 With that they cast away their weapons, and made peace; and the Jews were honoured in the sight of the king, and in the sight of all that were in his realm; and they returned to Jerusalem, having great spoils.
52 Le roi Démétrius s'affermit sur le trône royal et le pays fut en repos sous sa direction.	52 So king Demetrius sat on the throne of his kingdom, and the land was quiet before him.
53 Mais il manqua à toutes les paroles données, devint tout autre à l'égard de Jonathan, nereconnut plus les services que celui-ci lui avait rendus et lui infligea mille vexations.	53 Nevertheless he dissembled in all that ever he spake, and estranged himself from Jonathan, neither rewarded he him according to the benefits which he had received of him, but troubled him very sore.
54 Après cela Tryphon revint et avec lui Antiochus, tout jeune enfant, qui commença à régneret ceignit le diadème.	54 After this returned Tryphon, and with him the young child Antiochus, who reigned, and was crowned.
55 Et toutes les troupes dont Démétrius s'était débarrassé se groupèrent autour de lui et firentla guerre à Démétrius, qui fut mis en fuite et en déroute.	55 Then there gathered unto him all the men of war, whom Demetrius had put away, and they fought against Demetrius, who turned his back and fled.
56 Tryphon prit les éléphants et s'empara d'Antioche.	56 Moreover Tryphon took the elephants, and won Antioch.
57 Le jeune Antiochus écrivit à Jonathan en ces termes: "Je te confirme dans le souverainsacerdoce et je t'établis sur les quatre nomes et veux que tu sois parmi les amis du roi."	57 At that time young Antiochus wrote unto Jonathan, saying, I confirm thee in the high priesthood, and appoint thee ruler over the four governments, and to be one of the king's friends.
58 Il lui envoyait en même temps des vases d'or et un service de table, lui donnaitl'autorisation de boire dans des coupes d'or, de porter la pourpre et l'agrafe d'or.	58 Upon this he sent him golden vessels to be served in, and gave him leave to drink in gold, and to be clothed in purple, and to wear a golden buckle.
59 Il institua Simon, son frère, stratège depuis l'Echelle de Tyr jusqu'aux frontières d'Egypte.	59 His brother Simon also he made captain from the place called The ladder of Tyrus unto the borders of Egypt.
60 Jonathan partit et se mit à parcourir la Transeuphratène et les cités. Toutes les troupes deSyrie se rangèrent auprès de lui pour combattre avec lui; arrivé à Ascalon, les habitants de la ville vinrent lerecevoir magnifiquement.	60 Then Jonathan went forth, and passed through the cities beyond the water, and all the forces of Syria gathered themselves unto him for to help him: and when he came to Ascalon, they of the city met him honourably.
61 Il se rendit de là à Gaza. Gaza ferma ses portes, aussi en fit-il le siège, livrant sa banlieueau feu et au pillage.	61 From whence he went to Gaza, but they of Gaza shut him out; wherefore he laid siege unto it, and burned the suburbs thereof with fire, and spoiled them.
62 Les gens de Gaza implorèrent Jonathan, qui leur accorda la paix mais prit comme otagesles fils de leurs chefs qu'il envoya à Jérusalem. Il parcourut ensuite la contrée jusqu'à Damas.	62 Afterward, when they of Gaza made supplication unto Jonathan, he made peace with them, and took the sons of their chief men for hostages, and sent them to Jerusalem, and passed through the country unto Damascus.
63 Jonathan apprit que les généraux de Démétrius étaient arrivés à Kédès de Galilée avec unenombreuse armée, pour l'écarter de sa charge,	63 Now when Jonathan heard that Demetrius' princes were come to Cades, which is in Galilee, with a great power, purposing to remove him out of the country,
64 et il s'en alla à leur rencontre, tout en laissant son frère Simon dans le pays.	64 He went to meet them, and left Simon his brother in the country.
65 Simon assiégea Bethsour, la combattit durant de longs jours et en bloqua les habitants	65 Then Simon encamped against Bethsura and fought against it a long season, and shut it up:
66 qui lui demandèrent de faire la paix, ce qu'il leur accorda. Leur ayant fait évacuer la place,il prit possession de la ville et y plaça une garnison.	66 But they desired to have peace with him, which he granted them, and then put them out from thence, and took the city, and set a garrison in it.
67 De son côté, Jonathan avec son armée était venu camper près des eaux du Gennèsar et degrand matin il atteignit la plaine d'Asor.	67 As for Jonathan and his host, they pitched at the water of Gennesar, from whence betimes in the morning they gat them to the plain of Nasor.
68 L'armée des étrangers s'avança à sa rencontre dans la plaine, après avoir détaché uneembuscade contre Jonathan dans les montagnes. Tandis que cette armée marchait directement sur les Juifs,	68 And, behold, the host of strangers met them in the plain, who, having laid men in ambush for him in the mountains, came themselves over against him.
69 les hommes de l'embuscade surgirent de leur cachette et engagèrent le combat.	69 So when they that lay in ambush rose out of their places and joined battle, all that were of Jonathan's side fled;
70 Tous les soldats de Jonathan prirent la fuite, personne ne resta, à l'exception de Mattathias,fils d'Absalom, et de Judas, fils de Chalfi, généraux de ses troupes.	70 Insomuch as there was not one of them left, except Mattathias the son of Absalom, and Judas the son of Calphi, the captains of the host.
71 Alors Jonathan déchira ses vêtements, répandit de la poussière sur sa tête et pria.	71 Then Jonathan rent his clothes, and cast earth upon his head, and prayed.
72 Revenu au combat il mit en déroute l'ennemi qui prit la fuite.	72 Afterwards turning again to battle, he put them to flight, and so they ran away.
73 A cette vue, ceux des siens qui fuyaient retournèrent vers lui et ils poursuivirent ensemblel'ennemi jusqu'à Kédès où était son camp, et eux-mêmes campèrent en ce lieu.	73 Now when his own men that were fled saw this, they turned again unto him, and with him pursued them to Cades, even unto their own tents, and there they camped.
74 Il périt en cette journée-là 3.000 hommes des troupes étrangères et Jonathan retourna àJérusalem.	74 So there were slain of the heathen that day about three thousand men: but Jonathan returned to Jerusalem.
