1 Le roi et Aman allèrent banqueter chez la reine Esther,	1 So the king and Aman went in, to drink with the queen.
2 et ce deuxième jour, pendant le banquet, le roi dit encore à Esther: "Dis-moi ce que tu demandes,reine Esther, c'est accordé d'avance! Dis-moi ce que tu désires; serait-ce la moitié du royaume, c'est chose faite"--	2 And the king said to her again the second day, after he was warm with wine: What is thy petition, Esther, that it may be granted thee? and what wilt thou have done: although thou ask the half of my kingdom, thou shalt have it.
3 "Si vraiment j'ai trouvé grâce à tes yeux, ô roi, lui répondit la reine Esther, et si tel est ton bon plaisir,accorde-moi la vie, voilà ma demande, et la vie de mon peuple, voilà mon désir.	3 Then she answered: If I have found Favour in thy sight, O king, and if it please thee, give me my life for which I ask, and my people for which I request.
4 Car nous sommes livrés, mon peuple et moi, à l'extermination, à la tuerie et à l'anéantissement. Siencore nous avions seulement été livrés comme esclaves ou servantes, je me serais tue. Mais en l'occurrence lepersécuteur sera hors d'état de compenser le dommage qui va en résulter pour le roi."	4 For we are given up, I and my people, to be destroyed, to be slain, and to perish. And would God we were sold for bondmen and bondwomen: the evil might be borne with, and I would have mourned in silence: but now we have an enemy, whose cruelty redoundeth upon the king.
5 Mais Assuérus prit la parole et dit à la reine Esther: "Qui est-ce? Où est l'homme qui a pensé agirainsi?"	5 And king Assuerus answered and said: Who is this, and of what power, that he should do these things?
6 Alors Esther: "Le persécuteur, l'ennemi, c'est Aman, c'est ce misérable!" A la vue du roi et de lareine, Aman fut glacé de terreur.	6 And Esther said: It is this Aman that is our adversary and most wicked enemy. Aman hearing this was forthwith astonished, not being able to bear the countenance of the king and of the queen.
7 Furieux, le roi se leva et quitta le banquet pour gagner le jardin du palais, cependant qu'Amandemeurait près de la reine Esther pour implorer la grâce de la vie, sentant trop bien que le roi avait décidé saperte.	7 But the king being angry rose up, and went from the place of the banquet into the garden set with trees. Aman also rose up to entreat Esther the queen for his life, for he understood that evil was prepared for him by the king.
8 Quand le roi revint du jardin dans la salle du banquet, il trouva Aman effondré sur le divan où Estherétait étendue. "Va-t-il après cela faire violence à la reine chez moi, dans le palais?" S'écria-t-il. A peine le motétait-il sorti de sa bouche qu'un voile fut jeté sur la face d'Aman.	8 And when the king came back out of the garden set with trees, and entered into the place of the banquet, he found Aman was fallen upon the bed on which Esther lay, and he said: He will force the queen also in my presence, in my own house. The word was not yet gone out of the king's mouth, and immediately they covered his face.
9 Harbona, un des eunuques, dit en présence du roi: "Justement il y a une potence de 50 coudéesqu'Aman a fait préparer pour ce Mardochée qui a parlé pour le bien du roi; elle est toute dressée dans sa maison"-- "Qu'on l'y pende", ordonna le roi.	9 And Harbona, one of the eunuchs that stood waiting on the king, said: Behold the gibbet which he hath prepared for Mardochai, who spoke for the king, standeth in Aman's house, being fifty cubits high. And the king said to him: Hang him upon it.
10 Aman fut donc pendu à la potence dressée par lui pour Mardochée et la colère du roi s'apaisa.	10 So Aman was hanged on the gibbet, which he had prepared for Mardochai: and the king's wrath ceased.
