Deuxième livre des Chroniques 18

JERUSALEM	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Josaphat eut donc beaucoup de richesses et d'honneur et il s'allia par mariage avec Achab.	1 Although Jehoshaphat enjoyed great wealth and honour, he al ied himself by marriage to Ahab.
2 Au bout de quelques années, il vint visiter Achab à Samarie. Achab immola quantité demoutons et de boeufs pour lui et sa suite afin de l'inciter à attaquer Ramot de Galaad.	2 After some years he paid a visit to Ahab in Samaria. Ahab slaughtered an immense number of sheepand oxen for him and his retinue, to induce him to attack Ramoth-Gilead.
3 Achab, roi d'Israël, dit à Josaphat, roi de Juda: "Viendras-tu avec moi à Ramot de Galaad?" Illui répondit: "Il en sera de la bataille pour moi comme pour toi, pour mes gens comme pour tes gens."	3 Ahab king of Israel then said to Jehoshaphat king of Judah, 'Wil you come with me to Ramoth-Gilead?' He replied, 'I wil share in battle with you, my men with yours.'
4 Cependant Josaphat dit au roi d'Israël: "Je te prie, consulte d'abord la parole de Yahvé."	4 Jehoshaphat, however, said to the king of Israel, 'First, please consult the word of Yahweh.'
5 Le roi d'Israël rassembla les prophètes, au nombre de 400, et leur demanda: "Devons-nousaller attaquer Ramot de Galaad, ou dois-je y renoncer?" Ils répondirent: "Monte, Dieu la livrera aux mains duroi."	5 So the king of Israel cal ed the prophets together, four hundred of them. 'Should we go and attackRamoth-Gilead,' he asked, 'or should I hold back?' 'March,' they replied, 'for God wil deliver it into the king'spower.'
6 Mais Josaphat dit: "N'y a-t-il donc ici aucun prophète de Yahvé, par qui nous puissions leconsulter?"	6 Jehoshaphat, however, said, 'Is there no other prophet of Yahweh here, for us to consult?'
7 Le roi d'Israël répondit à Josaphat: "Il y a encore un homme par qui on peut consulter Yahvé,mais je le hais, car il ne prophétise jamais le bien à mon sujet, mais toujours du mal: c'est Michée, fils de Yimla."Josaphat dit: "Que le roi ne parle pas ainsi!"	7 The king of Israel answered Jehoshaphat, 'There is one more man through whom we can consultYahweh, but I hate him because he never has a favourable prophecy for me, always unfavourable ones; he isMicaiah son of Imlah.' 'The king should not say such things,' said Jehoshaphat.
8 Le roi d'Israël appela un eunuque et dit: "Fais vite venir Michée, fils de Yimla."	8 The king of Israel then summoned a court official and said, 'Bring Micaiah son of Imlah immediately.'
9 Le roi d'Israël et Josaphat, roi de Juda, étaient assis, chacun sur son trône, en grand costume;ils siégeaient sur l'aire devant la porte de Samarie et tous les prophètes se livraient à leurs transports devant eux.	9 The king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah were sitting each on his throne, wearing their robes;in an open space just outside the gate of Samaria, with al the prophets prophesying before them,
10 Sédécias, fils de Kenaana, se fit des cornes de fer et dit: "Ainsi parle Yahvé. Avec cela tuencorneras les Araméens jusqu'au dernier."	10 Zedekiah son of Chenaanah, who had made himself some iron horns, said, 'Yahweh says, "Withhorns like these, you will gore the Aramaeans til you make an end of them." '
11 Et tous les prophètes faisaient la même prédiction, disant: "Monte à Ramot de Galaad! Turéussiras, Yahvé la livrera aux mains du roi."	11 And al the prophets prophesied in the same vein, saying, 'March on Ramoth-Gilead! Success issure, for Yahweh has already given it to the king!'
12 Le messager qui était allé chercher Michée lui dit: "Voici que les prophètes n'ont qu'uneseule bouche pour parler en faveur du roi. Tâche de parler comme l'un d'eux et prédis le succès."	12 The messenger who had gone to summon Micaiah said to him, 'Look! What the prophets are sayingis uniformly favourable to the king. So I hope you wil say the same as they do and speak favourably.'
13 Mais Michée répondit: "Par Yahvé vivant! Ce que mon Dieu dira, c'est cela quej'énoncerai."	13 Micaiah said, 'As Yahweh lives, I shal speak exactly as Yahweh tells me!'
14 Il arriva près du roi, et le roi lui demanda: "Michée, devons-nous aller combattre à Ramotde Galaad, ou dois-je y renoncer?" Il répondit: "Montez! Vous réussirez, ses habitants seront livrés entre vosmains."	14 When he came to the king, the king said, 'Micaiah, should we march to attack Ramoth-Gilead, orshould I hold back?' He replied, 'Go and conquer, Yahweh wil deliver them into your power!'
15 Mais le roi lui dit: "Combien de fois me faudra-t-il t'adjurer de ne me dire que la vérité aunom de Yahvé?"	15 The king went on, 'How often must I put you on oath to tel me nothing but the truth in the name ofYahweh?'
16 Alors il prononça: "J'ai vu tout Israël dispersé sur les montagnes comme un troupeau sanspasteur. Et Yahvé a dit: ils n'ont plus de maître, que chacun retourne en paix chez soi!"	16 Then he spoke out. I saw al Israel scattered on the mountains like sheep without a shepherd. AndYahweh said, 'These have no master, let them all go peaceful y home!'
17 Le roi d'Israël dit alors à Josaphat: "Ne t'avais-je pas dit qu'il prophétisait pour moi non lebien mais le mal?"	17 At this the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, 'Did I not tell you that he never gives me favourableprophecies, but only unfavourable ones?'
18 Michée reprit: "Ecoutez plutôt la parole de Yahvé: j'ai vu Yahvé assis sur son trône; toutel'armée du ciel se tenait à sa droite et à sa gauche.	18 Micaiah went on, 'Now listen to the word of Yahweh. I saw Yahweh seated on his throne with thewhole array of heaven standing on his right and on his left.
19 Yahvé demanda: Qui trompera Achab, le roi d'Israël, pour qu'il marche contre Ramot deGalaad et qu'il y succombe? Ils répondirent celui-ci d'une manière et celui-là d'une autre.	19 Yahweh said, "Who will entice Ahab king of Israel into marching to his death at Ramoth-Gilead?" Atwhich some answered one way, and some another.
20 Alors l'Esprit s'avança et se tint devant Yahvé: C'est moi, dit-il, qui le tromperai. Yahvé luidemanda: Comment?	20 A spirit then came forward and stood before Yahweh and said, "I wil entice him." "How?" Yahweh asked.
21 Il répondit: J'irai et je me ferai esprit de mensonge dans la bouche de tous ses prophètes.Yahvé dit: Tu le tromperas, tu réussiras. Va et fais ainsi.	21 He replied, "I shall go and be a deceptive spirit in the mouths of all his prophets." Yahweh said, "You wil succeed in enticing him. Go and do it."
22 Voici donc que Yahvé a mis un esprit de mensonge dans la bouche de tes prophètes qui sontlà, mais Yahvé a prononcé contre toi le malheur."	22 And now, you see, Yahweh has put a deceptive spirit into the mouths of your prophets here, for infact Yahweh has pronounced disaster on you.'
23 Alors Sédécias, fils de Kenaana, s'approcha et frappa Michée à la mâchoire, en disant: "Parquelle voie l'esprit de Yahvé m'a-t-il quitté pour te parler?"	23 Zedekiah son of Chenaanah then came up, struck Micaiah on the cheek and said, 'Which way didYahweh's spirit leave me, to speak to you?'
24 Michée repartit: "C'est ce que tu verras le jour où tu fuiras dans une chambre retirée pour tecacher."	24 'That is what you wil find out,' Micaiah retorted, 'the day you go from room to room, trying to hide.'
25 Le roi d'Israël ordonna: "Saisissez Michée, et remettez-le à Amon, gouverneur de la ville, etau fils du roi, Yoash.	25 The king of Israel said, 'Seize Micaiah and hand him over to Amon governor of the city, and Joashthe king's son,
26 Vous leur direz: Ainsi parle le roi. Mettez cet homme en prison et nourrissez-le strictementde pain et d'eau jusqu'à ce que je revienne sain et sauf."	26 and say, "These are the king's orders: Put this man in prison and feed him on nothing but bread andwater until I am safely home." '
27 Michée dit: "Si tu reviens sain et sauf, c'est que Yahvé n'a pas parlé par ma bouche."	27 Micaiah said, 'If you ever do get home safely, Yahweh has not spoken through me.'
28 Le roi d'Israël et Josaphat, roi de Juda, marchèrent contre Ramot de Galaad.	28 The king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah marched on Ramoth-Gilead.
29 Le roi d'Israël dit à Josaphat: "Je me déguiserai pour marcher au combat, mais toi, revêtston costume!" Le roi d'Israël se déguisa et ils marchèrent au combat.	29 The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, 'I shall disguise myself to go into battle, but you put on yourrobes.' So the king of Israel disguised himself, and they went into battle.
30 Le roi d'Aram avait donné cet ordre à ses commandants de chars: "Vous n'attaquerez ni petitni grand, mais seulement le roi d'Israël."	30 Now, the king of Aram had given his chariot commanders the fol owing order, 'Do not attack anyoneof whatever rank, except the king of Israel.'
31 Lorsque les commandants de chars virent Josaphat, ils dirent: "C'est le roi d'Israël", et ilsconcentrèrent sur lui le combat; mais Josaphat poussa son cri de guerre, Yahvé lui vint en aide et Dieu lesentraîna loin de lui.	31 So, when the chariot commanders saw Jehoshaphat, they thought, 'That is the king of Israel,' andsurrounded him to attack. But when Jehoshaphat shouted his war cry, Yahweh came to his help, God drew themaway from him,
32 Lorsque les commandants de chars virent que ce n'était pas le roi d'Israël, ils s'éloignèrentde lui.	32 for the chariot commanders, realising that he was not the king of Israel, broke off their pursuit.
33 Or un homme banda son arc sans savoir qui il visait et atteignit le roi d'Israël entre lecorselet et les appliques de la cuirasse. Celui-ci dit au charrier: "Tourne bride et fais-moi sortir de la mêlée, car jeme sens mal."	33 Someone, however, drawing his bow without any special aim, shot the king of Israel between thejoints of his armour. 'Turn about!' he said to his charioteer. 'Get me out of the fighting; I am col apsing.'
34 Mais le combat se fit plus violent ce jour-là; le roi d'Israël, jusqu'au soir, resta debout surson char en face des Araméens et, au coucher du soleil, il mourut.	34 But the battle grew fiercer as the day went on, and the king of Israel had to be held upright in hischariot facing the Aramaeans until the evening, and at sunset he died.
