Deuxième livre des Chroniques 18

JERUSALEM	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Josaphat eut donc beaucoup de richesses et d'honneur et il s'allia par mariage avec Achab.	1 Jehoshaphat therefore had wealth and glory in abundance; but he became related to Ahab by marriage.
2 Au bout de quelques années, il vint visiter Achab à Samarie. Achab immola quantité demoutons et de boeufs pour lui et sa suite afin de l'inciter à attaquer Ramot de Galaad.	2 After some years he went down to Ahab at Samaria; Ahab offered numerous sheep and oxen for him and the people with him, and persuaded him to go up against Ramoth-gilead.
3 Achab, roi d'Israël, dit à Josaphat, roi de Juda: "Viendras-tu avec moi à Ramot de Galaad?" Illui répondit: "Il en sera de la bataille pour moi comme pour toi, pour mes gens comme pour tes gens."	3 Ahab, king of Israel, asked Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, "Will you come with me to Ramoth-gilead?" "You and I are as one," was his answer; "your people and my people as well. We will be with you in the battle."
4 Cependant Josaphat dit au roi d'Israël: "Je te prie, consulte d'abord la parole de Yahvé."	4 But Jehoshaphat also said to the king of Israel, "Seek the word of the LORD at once."
5 Le roi d'Israël rassembla les prophètes, au nombre de 400, et leur demanda: "Devons-nousaller attaquer Ramot de Galaad, ou dois-je y renoncer?" Ils répondirent: "Monte, Dieu la livrera aux mains duroi."	5 The king of Israel gathered his prophets, four hundred in number, and asked them, "Shall we go to attack Ramoth-gilead, or shall I refrain?" "Go up," they answered. "God will deliver it over to the king."
6 Mais Josaphat dit: "N'y a-t-il donc ici aucun prophète de Yahvé, par qui nous puissions leconsulter?"	6 But Jehoshaphat said, "Is there no other prophet of the LORD here whom we may consult?"
7 Le roi d'Israël répondit à Josaphat: "Il y a encore un homme par qui on peut consulter Yahvé,mais je le hais, car il ne prophétise jamais le bien à mon sujet, mais toujours du mal: c'est Michée, fils de Yimla."Josaphat dit: "Que le roi ne parle pas ainsi!"	7 The king of Israel answered Jehoshaphat, "There is still another through whom we may consult the LORD, but I hate him, for he prophesies not good but always evil about me. That is Micaiah, son of Imlah." Jeshoshaphat said, "Let not your Majesty speak of evil against you."
8 Le roi d'Israël appela un eunuque et dit: "Fais vite venir Michée, fils de Yimla."	8 So the king of Israel called an official, to whom he said, "Get Micaiah, son of Imlah, at once."
9 Le roi d'Israël et Josaphat, roi de Juda, étaient assis, chacun sur son trône, en grand costume;ils siégeaient sur l'aire devant la porte de Samarie et tous les prophètes se livraient à leurs transports devant eux.	9 The king of Israel and King Jehoshaphat of Judah were seated each on his throne, clothed in their robes of state on a threshing floor at the entrance of the gate of Samaria, and all the prophets were prophesying before them.
10 Sédécias, fils de Kenaana, se fit des cornes de fer et dit: "Ainsi parle Yahvé. Avec cela tuencorneras les Araméens jusqu'au dernier."	10 Zedekiah, son of Chenaanah, made iron horns for himself and said: "The LORD says, 'With these you shall gore Aram until you have destroyed them.'"
11 Et tous les prophètes faisaient la même prédiction, disant: "Monte à Ramot de Galaad! Turéussiras, Yahvé la livrera aux mains du roi."	11 The other prophets prophesied in the same vein, saying: "Go up to Ramoth-gilead. You shall succeed; the LORD will deliver it over to the king."
12 Le messager qui était allé chercher Michée lui dit: "Voici que les prophètes n'ont qu'uneseule bouche pour parler en faveur du roi. Tâche de parler comme l'un d'eux et prédis le succès."	12 The messenger who had gone to call Micaiah said to him: "Look now, the prophets unanimously predict good for the king. Let your word, like each of theirs, predict good."
13 Mais Michée répondit: "Par Yahvé vivant! Ce que mon Dieu dira, c'est cela quej'énoncerai."	13 "As the LORD lives," Micaiah answered, "I will say what my God tells me."
14 Il arriva près du roi, et le roi lui demanda: "Michée, devons-nous aller combattre à Ramotde Galaad, ou dois-je y renoncer?" Il répondit: "Montez! Vous réussirez, ses habitants seront livrés entre vosmains."	14 When he came to the king, the king said to him, "Micaiah, shall we go to fight against Ramoth-gilead, or shall I refrain?" "Go up," he answered, "and succeed; they will be delivered into your power."
15 Mais le roi lui dit: "Combien de fois me faudra-t-il t'adjurer de ne me dire que la vérité aunom de Yahvé?"	15 But the king said to him, "How many times must I adjure you to tell me nothing but the truth in the name of the LORD?"
16 Alors il prononça: "J'ai vu tout Israël dispersé sur les montagnes comme un troupeau sanspasteur. Et Yahvé a dit: ils n'ont plus de maître, que chacun retourne en paix chez soi!"	16 Then Micaiah answered: "I see all Israel scattered on the mountains, like sheep without a shepherd, and the LORD saying, 'These have no master!' Let each of them go back home in peace.'"
17 Le roi d'Israël dit alors à Josaphat: "Ne t'avais-je pas dit qu'il prophétisait pour moi non lebien mais le mal?"	17 The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "Did I not tell you that he prophesies no good about me, but only evil?"
18 Michée reprit: "Ecoutez plutôt la parole de Yahvé: j'ai vu Yahvé assis sur son trône; toutel'armée du ciel se tenait à sa droite et à sa gauche.	18 But Micaiah continued: "Therefore hear the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD seated on his throne, with the whole host of heaven standing by to his right and to his left.
19 Yahvé demanda: Qui trompera Achab, le roi d'Israël, pour qu'il marche contre Ramot deGalaad et qu'il y succombe? Ils répondirent celui-ci d'une manière et celui-là d'une autre.	19 The LORD asked, 'Who will deceive Ahab, king of Israel, so that he will go up and fall at Ramoth-gilead?' And one said this, another that,
20 Alors l'Esprit s'avança et se tint devant Yahvé: C'est moi, dit-il, qui le tromperai. Yahvé luidemanda: Comment?	20 until a spirit came forward and presented himself to the LORD, saying, 'I will deceive him.' The LORD asked, 'How?'
21 Il répondit: J'irai et je me ferai esprit de mensonge dans la bouche de tous ses prophètes.Yahvé dit: Tu le tromperas, tu réussiras. Va et fais ainsi.	21 He answered, 'I will go forth and become a lying spirit in the mouths of all his prophets.' The LORD agreed: 'You shall succeed in deceiving him. Go forth and do this.'
22 Voici donc que Yahvé a mis un esprit de mensonge dans la bouche de tes prophètes qui sontlà, mais Yahvé a prononcé contre toi le malheur."	22 So now the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouths of these your prophets, but the LORD himself has decreed evil against you."
23 Alors Sédécias, fils de Kenaana, s'approcha et frappa Michée à la mâchoire, en disant: "Parquelle voie l'esprit de Yahvé m'a-t-il quitté pour te parler?"	23 Thereupon Zedekiah, son of Chenaanah, came up and slapped Micaiah on the cheek, saying, "Which way did the spirit of the LORD go when he left me to speak to you?"
24 Michée repartit: "C'est ce que tu verras le jour où tu fuiras dans une chambre retirée pour tecacher."	24 "You shall find out," Micaiah replied, "on that day when you enter an innermost chamber to hide."
25 Le roi d'Israël ordonna: "Saisissez Michée, et remettez-le à Amon, gouverneur de la ville, etau fils du roi, Yoash.	25 The king of Israel then said: "Seize Micaiah and take him back to Amon, prefect of the city, and to Joash the king's son,
26 Vous leur direz: Ainsi parle le roi. Mettez cet homme en prison et nourrissez-le strictementde pain et d'eau jusqu'à ce que je revienne sain et sauf."	26 and say, 'This is the king's order: Put this man in prison and feed him scanty rations of bread and water until I return in safety!'"
27 Michée dit: "Si tu reviens sain et sauf, c'est que Yahvé n'a pas parlé par ma bouche."	27 But Micaiah said, "If ever you return in safety, the LORD has not spoken through me." And he said, "Hear, O peoples, all of you!"
28 Le roi d'Israël et Josaphat, roi de Juda, marchèrent contre Ramot de Galaad.	28 The king of Israel and King Jehoshaphat of Judah went up to Ramoth-gilead
29 Le roi d'Israël dit à Josaphat: "Je me déguiserai pour marcher au combat, mais toi, revêtston costume!" Le roi d'Israël se déguisa et ils marchèrent au combat.	29 and the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "I will go into battle disguised, but you put on your own clothes." So the king of Israel disguised himself and they entered the fray.
30 Le roi d'Aram avait donné cet ordre à ses commandants de chars: "Vous n'attaquerez ni petitni grand, mais seulement le roi d'Israël."	30 Meanwhile, the king of Aram had given his chariot commanders the order, "Fight with no one, small or great, except the king of Israel."
31 Lorsque les commandants de chars virent Josaphat, ils dirent: "C'est le roi d'Israël", et ilsconcentrèrent sur lui le combat; mais Josaphat poussa son cri de guerre, Yahvé lui vint en aide et Dieu lesentraîna loin de lui.	31 When the commanders saw Jehoshaphat, they exclaimed, "That must be the king of Israel!" and shifted to fight him. But Jehoshaphat cried out and the LORD helped him; God induced them to leave him.
32 Lorsque les commandants de chars virent que ce n'était pas le roi d'Israël, ils s'éloignèrentde lui.	32 The chariot commanders became aware that he was not the king of Israel and gave up their pursuit of him.
33 Or un homme banda son arc sans savoir qui il visait et atteignit le roi d'Israël entre lecorselet et les appliques de la cuirasse. Celui-ci dit au charrier: "Tourne bride et fais-moi sortir de la mêlée, car jeme sens mal."	33 Someone, however, drew his bow at random and hit the king of Israel between the joints of his breastplate. He ordered his charioteer, "Rein about and take me out of the ranks, for I am disabled."
34 Mais le combat se fit plus violent ce jour-là; le roi d'Israël, jusqu'au soir, resta debout surson char en face des Araméens et, au coucher du soleil, il mourut.	34 The battle grew fierce during the day, and the king of Israel braced himself up on his chariot facing the Arameans until evening. He died as the sun was setting.
