Deuxième livre des Chroniques 16

JERUSALEM	NEW JERUSALEM
1 La trente-sixième année du règne d'Asa, Basha, roi d'Israël, marcha contre Juda; il fortifiaRama pour bloquer les communications d'Asa, roi de Juda.	1 In the thirty-sixth year of Asa's reign, Baasha king of Israel marched on Judah and fortified Ramah toblock the communications of Asa king of Judah.
2 Alors Asa puisa de l'or et de l'argent dans les trésors du Temple de Yahvé et du palais royalpour en faire l'envoi à Ben-Hadad, le roi d'Aram, qui résidait à Damas, avec ce message:	2 Asa then took silver and gold from the treasuries of the Temple of Yahweh and the royal palace andsent this with the fol owing message to Ben-Hadad king of Aram, who lived in Damascus,
3 "Alliance entre moi et toi, entre mon père et ton père! Je t'envoie de l'argent et de l'or; va,romps ton alliance avec Basha, roi d'Israël, pour qu'il s'éloigne de moi!"	3 'Let us make an alliance between me and you, between my father and your father! Look, I have sentyou silver and gold. Come, break off your al iance with Baasha king of Israel, which wil make him withdraw fromme.'
4 Ben-Hadad exauça le roi Asa et envoya ses chefs d'armée contre les villes d'Israël; il conquitIyyôn, Dan, Abel-Mayim et tous les entrepôts des villes de Nephtali.	4 Ben-Hadad listened favourably to King Asa and sent the generals of his armies to attack the towns ofIsrael; he ravaged Ijon, Dan, Abel-Maim and al the storage towns of Naphtali.
5 Quand Basha l'apprit, il arrêta les travaux de Rama et fit cesser l'ouvrage.	5 When Baasha heard this he gave up fortifying Ramah, abandoning this work.
6 Alors le roi Asa amena tout Juda; on enleva les pierres et le bois avec lesquels Bashafortifiait Rama, et on s'en servit pour fortifier Géba et Miçpa.	6 King Asa then had al Judah carry away the stones and timber with which Baasha had been fortifyingRamah, and used them to fortify Geba and Mizpah.
7 C'est alors que Hanani le voyant vint trouver Asa, roi de Juda. Il lui dit: "Parce que tu t'esappuyé sur le roi d'Aram et non sur Yahvé ton Dieu, les forces du roi d'Aram échapperont à tes mains.	7 Then it was that Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah and said, 'Because you relied on the kingof Aram and not on Yahweh your God, the king of Aram's army wil slip through your fingers.
8 Kushites et Libyens ne formaient-ils pas une armée nombreuse avec une grande multitude dechars et de chevaux? Or n'ont-ils pas été livrés entre tes mains parce que tu t'étais appuyé sur Yahvé?	8 Did not the Cushites and Libyans form a vast army with great numbers of chariots and cavalry? Evenso, because you relied on Yahweh, he gave you the upper hand;
9 Puisque Yahvé parcourt des yeux toute la terre pour affermir ceux dont le coeur est toutentier tourné vers lui, tu as cette fois-ci agi en insensé et tu auras désormais la guerre."	9 for Yahweh's eyes rove to and fro across the whole world to support those whose hearts are loyal tohim. You have acted like a fool in this respect; hence, from now on you wil have wars.'
10 S'emportant contre le voyant, Asa le mit aux ceps en prison, car cela l'avait irrité; il prit ence temps-là de dures mesures contre une partie du peuple.	10 Enraged with the seer, Asa had him put in the stocks in prison, being angry with him over this; at thesame time Asa ill-treated some of the people too.
11 L'histoire d'Asa, du début à la fin, est écrite au livre des Rois de Juda et d'Israël.	11 The history of Asa, from first to last, is recorded in the Book of the Kings of Judah and Israel.
12 Asa eut les pieds malades, d'une maladie très grave dans la trente-neuvième année de sonrègne; même alors, il n'eut pas recours dans sa maladie à Yahvé mais aux médecins.	12 In the thirty-ninth year of his reign, Asa contracted a disease in his feet, which became very severe;in his il ness, however, he consulted not Yahweh but the doctors.
13 Asa se coucha avec ses pères et mourut dans la quarante et unième année de son règne.	13 Asa then fel asleep with his ancestors, dying in the forty-first year of his reign.
14 On l'enterra dans le tombeau qu'il s'était fait creuser dans la Cité de David. On l'étendit surun lit tout rempli d'aromates, d'essences et d'onguents préparés; l'on fit pour lui un feu tout à fait grandiose.	14 He was buried in the tomb which he had ordered to be cut for him in the City of David. He was laid inthe burial chamber which was fil ed with perfume blended from all sorts of oils, and a very great funeral fire wasmade for him.
