Deuxième livre des Chroniques 1

JERUSALEM	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Salomon, fils de David, s'affermit sur son trône. Yahvé son Dieu était avec lui et porta au faîte sa grandeur.	1 Solomon, son of David, strengthened his hold on the kingdom, for the LORD, his God, was with him, constantly making him more renowned.
2 Salomon parla alors à tout Israël, aux officiers de milliers et de centaines, aux juges et à tousles princes de tout Israël, chefs de famille.	2 He sent a summons to all Israel, to the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, the judges, the princes of all Israel, and the family heads;
3 Puis, avec toute l'assemblée, Salomon se rendit au haut lieu de Gabaôn où se trouvait en effetla Tente du Rendez-vous de Dieu, faite dans le désert par Moïse, serviteur de Yahvé;	3 and, accompanied by the whole assembly, he went to the high place at Gibeon, because the meeting tent of God, made in the desert by Moses, the LORD'S servant, was there.
4 mais David avait fait monter l'arche de Dieu de Qiryat-Yéarim jusqu'à l'endroit qu'il avaitpréparé pour elle: il lui avait en effet dressé une tente à Jérusalem.	4 (The ark of God, however, David had brought up from Kiriath-jearim to Jerusalem, where he had provided a place and pitched a tent for it.)
5 L'autel de bronze qu'avait fait Beçaléel, fils de Uri, fils de Hur, était là devant la Demeure deYahvé où Salomon et l'assemblée venaient le consulter.	5 The bronze altar made by Bezalel, son of Uri, son of Hur, he put in front of the LORD'S Dwelling on the high place. There Solomon and the assembly consulted the LORD,
6 C'est là que Salomon, en présence de Dieu, monta à l'autel de bronze qui était attenant à laTente du Rendez-vous et il y offrit mille holocaustes.	6 and Solomon offered sacrifice in the LORD'S presence on the bronze altar at the meeting tent; he offered a thousand holocausts upon it.
7 La nuit même, Dieu se montra à Salomon et lui dit: "Demande ce que je dois te donner."	7 That night God appeared to Solomon and said to him, "Make a request of me, and I will grant it to you."
8 Salomon répondit à Dieu: "Tu as témoigné une grande bienveillance à David mon père et tum'as établi roi à sa place.	8 Solomon answered God: "You have shown great favor to my father David, and you have allowed me to succeed him as king.
9 Yahvé Dieu, la promesse que tu as faite à mon père David s'accomplit maintenant puisque tum'as établi roi sur un peuple aussi nombreux que la poussière de la terre.	9 Now, LORD God, may your promise to my father David be fulfilled, for you have made me king over a people as numerous as the dust of the earth.
10 Donne-moi donc à présent sagesse et savoir pour agir en chef à la tête de ce peuple, car quipourrait gouverner un peuple aussi grand que le tien?"	10 Give me, therefore, wisdom and knowledge to lead this people, for otherwise who could rule this great people of yours?"
11 Dieu dit à Salomon: "Puisque tel est ton désir, puisque tu n'as demandé ni richesse, ni trésors,ni gloire, ni la vie de tes ennemis, puisque tu n'as pas même demandé de longs jours, mais sagesse et savoir pourgouverner mon peuple dont je t'ai établi roi,	11 God then replied to Solomon: "Since this has been your wish and you have not asked for riches, treasures and glory, nor for the life of those who hate you, nor even for a long life for yourself, but have asked for wisdom and knowledge in order to rule my people over whom I have made you king,
12 la sagesse et le savoir te sont donnés. Je te donne aussi richesse, trésors et gloire comme n'eneut aucun des rois qui t'ont précédé et comme n'en auront point ceux qui viendront après toi."	12 wisdom and knowledge are given you; but I will also give you riches, treasures and glory, such as kings before you never had, nor will those have them who come after you."
13 Salomon quitta le haut lieu de Gabaôn pour Jérusalem, loin de la Tente du Rendez-vous; ilrégna sur Israël.	13 Solomon returned to Jerusalem from the high place at Gibeon, from the meeting tent, and became king over Israel.
14 Il rassembla des chars et des chevaux; il eut 1.400 chars et 1.200 chevaux, et il les cantonnadans les villes des chars et près du roi à Jérusalem.	14 He gathered together chariots and drivers, so that he had one thousand four hundred chariots and twelve thousand drivers he could station in the chariot cities and with the king in Jerusalem.
15 Le roi fit que l'argent et l'or étaient aussi communs à Jérusalem que les cailloux, et les cèdresaussi nombreux que les sycomores du Bas-Pays.	15 The king made silver and gold as common in Jerusalem as stones, while cedars became as numerous as the sycamores of the foothills.
16 Les chevaux de Salomon étaient importés de Muçur et de Cilicie; les courtiers du roi enprenaient livraison en Cilicie à prix d'argent.	16 Solomon also imported horses from Egypt and Cilicia. The king's agents would acquire them by purchase from Cilicia,
17 Ils s'en allaient aussi importer d'Egypte des chars à 600 sicles l'unité; un cheval en valait 150;il en était de même pour tous les rois des Hittites et les rois d'Aram qui les importaient par leur entremise.	17 and would then bring up chariots from Egypt and export them at six hundred silver shekels, with the horses going for a hundred and fifty shekels. At these rates they served as middlemen for all the Hittite and Aramean kings.
18 Salomon ordonna de bâtir une maison au nom de Yahvé et une autre pour y régner lui-même.	18 Solomon gave orders for the building of a house to honor the LORD and also of a house for his own royal estate.
