| 1 Quand David habita sa maison, il dit au prophète Natân: "Voici que j'habite une maison decèdre, et l'arche de l'alliance de Yahvé est sous les tentures!" | 1 Now when David dwelt in his house, David said to Nathan the prophet, "Behold, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of the covenant of the LORD is under a tent." |
| 2 Natân répondit à David: "Tout ce qui te tient à coeur, fais-le, car Dieu est avec toi." | 2 And Nathan said to David, "Do all that is in your heart, for God is with you." |
| 3 Mais, cette même nuit, la parole de Dieu fut adressée à Natân en ces termes: | 3 But that same night the word of the LORD came to Nathan, |
| 4 "Va dire à David mon serviteur: Ainsi parle Yahvé. Ce n'est pas toi qui me bâtiras unemaison pour que j'y habite. | 4 "Go and tell my servant David, 'Thus says the LORD: You shall not build me a house to dwell in. |
| 5 Oui, je n'ai jamais habité de maison depuis le jour où j'ai fait monter Israël jusqu'aujourd'hui,mais j'allais de tente en tente et d'abri en abri. | 5 For I have not dwelt in a house since the day I led up Israel to this day, but I have gone from tent to tent and from dwelling to dwelling. |
| 6 Pendant tout le temps où j'ai voyagé avec tout Israël, ai-je dit à un seul des Juges d'Israël quej'avais institués comme pasteurs de mon peuple: Pourquoi ne me bâtissez-vous pas une maison de cèdre? | 6 In all places where I have moved with all Israel, did I speak a word with any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to shepherd my people, saying, "Why have you not built me a house of cedar?"' |
| 7 Voici maintenant ce que tu diras à mon serviteur David: Ainsi parle Yahvé Sabaot. C'est moiqui t'ai pris au pâturage, derrière les brebis, pour être chef de mon peuple Israël. | 7 Now therefore thus shall you say to my servant David, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts, I took you from the pasture, from following the sheep, that you should be prince over my people Israel; |
| 8 J'ai été avec toi partout où tu allais, j'ai supprimé devant toi tous tes ennemis. Je te donneraiun renom égal à celui des plus grands sur la terre. | 8 and I have been with you wherever you went, and have cut off all your enemies from before you; and I will make for you a name, like the name of the great ones of the earth. |
| 9 Je fixerai un lieu à mon peuple Israël, je l'y planterai et il demeurera en cette place, il ne seraplus ballotté et les méchants ne continueront pas à le ruiner comme auparavant, | 9 And I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in their own place, and be disturbed no more; and violent men shall waste them no more, as formerly, |
| 10 depuis le temps où j'instituais des Juges sur mon peuple Israël. Je soumettrai tous tesennemis. Yahvé t'annonce qu'il te fera une maison, | 10 from the time that I appointed judges over my people Israel; and I will subdue all your enemies. Moreover I declare to you that the LORD will build you a house. |
| 11 et quand il sera pleinement temps de rejoindre tes pères je maintiendrai après toi tonlignage; ce sera l'un de tes fils dont j'affermirai le règne. | 11 When your days are fulfilled to go to be with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you, one of your own sons, and I will establish his kingdom. |
| 12 C'est lui qui me bâtira une maison et j'affermirai pour toujours son trône. | 12 He shall build a house for me, and I will establish his throne for ever. |
| 13 Je serai pour lui un père et il sera pour moi un fils; je ne lui retirerai pas ma faveur commeje l'ai retirée à celui qui t'a précédé. | 13 I will be his father, and he shall be my son; I will not take my steadfast love from him, as I took it from him who was before you, |
| 14 Je le maintiendrai à jamais dans ma maison et dans mon royaume, et son trône sera à jamaisaffermi." | 14 but I will confirm him in my house and in my kingdom for ever and his throne shall be established for ever.'" |
| 15 Natân communiqua à David toutes ces paroles et toute cette révélation. | 15 In accordance with all these words, and in accordance with all this vision, Nathan spoke to David. |
| 16 Alors le roi David entra, s'assit devant Yahvé et dit: "Qui suis-je, Yahvé Dieu, et quelle estma maison, pour que tu m'aies mené jusque-là? | 16 Then King David went in and sat before the LORD, and said, "Who am I, O LORD God, and what is my house, that thou hast brought me thus far? |
| 17 Mais cela est trop peu à tes yeux, ô Dieu, et tu étends tes promesses à la maison de tonserviteur pour un lointain avenir. Tu me fais voir comme un groupe d'hommes, celui qui l'élève c'est YahvéDieu. | 17 And this was a small thing in thy eyes, O God; thou hast also spoken of thy servant's house for a great while to come, and hast shown me future generations, O LORD God! |
| 18 Qu'est-ce que David pourrait faire de plus pour toi, vu la gloire que tu as donnée à tonserviteur? Toi-même, tu as distingué ton serviteur. | 18 And what more can David say to thee for honoring thy servant? For thou knowest thy servant. |
| 19 Yahvé, à cause de ton serviteur, et selon ton coeur, tu as eu cette magnificence de révélertoutes ces grandeurs. | 19 For thy servant's sake, O LORD, and according to thy own heart, thou hast wrought all this greatness, in making known all these great things. |
| 20 Yahvé, il n'y a personne comme toi et il n'y a pas d'autre Dieu que toi seul, comme l'ontappris nos oreilles. | 20 There is none like thee, O LORD, and there is no God besides thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears. |
| 21 Y a-t-il, comme ton peuple Israël, un autre peuple sur la terre qu'un Dieu soit allé racheterpour en faire son peuple, pour le rendre fameux et opérer en sa faveur de grandes et terribles choses, en chassantdes nations devant ton peuple que tu as racheté d'Egypte? | 21 What other nation on earth is like thy people Israel, whom God went to redeem to be his people, making for thyself a name for great and terrible things, in driving out nations before thy people whom thou didst redeem from Egypt? |
| 22 Tu t'es donné à jamais pour peuple Israël ton peuple, et toi, Yahvé, tu es devenu son Dieu. | 22 And thou didst make thy people Israel to be thy people for ever; and thou, O LORD, didst become their God. |
| 23 Et maintenant, que subsiste à jamais, Yahvé, la promesse que tu as faite à ton serviteur et àsa maison, et agis comme tu l'as dit. | 23 And now, O LORD, let the word which thou hast spoken concerning thy servant and concerning his house be established for ever, and do as thou hast spoken; |
| 24 Que cette promesse subsiste et que ton Nom soit exalté à jamais! Que l'on dise: YahvéSabaot est le Dieu d'Israël, il est Dieu pour Israël. La maison de David ton serviteur sera affermie devant toi, | 24 and thy name will be established and magnified for ever, saying, 'The LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, is Israel's God,' and the house of thy servant David will be established before thee. |
| 25 car c'est toi, mon Dieu, qui as fait cette révélation à ton serviteur: lui bâtir une maison. C'estpourquoi ton serviteur se trouve devant toi à te prier. | 25 For thou, my God, hast revealed to thy servant that thou wilt build a house for him; therefore thy servant has found courage to pray before thee. |
| 26 Oui, Yahvé, c'est toi qui es Dieu, et tu as fait cette belle promesse à ton serviteur. | 26 And now, O LORD, thou art God, and thou hast promised this good thing to thy servant; |
| 27 Tu as alors consenti à bénir la maison de ton serviteur pour qu'elle demeure toujours en taprésence. Car c'est toi, Yahvé, qui as béni: elle est bénie à jamais." | 27 now therefore may it please thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may continue for ever before thee; for what thou, O LORD, hast blessed is blessed for ever." |
