1 Quand les deux Anges arrivèrent à Sodome sur le soir, Lot était assis à la porte de la ville. Dès queLot les vit, il se leva à leur rencontre et se prosterna, face contre terre.	1 And the two Angels arrived at Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting at the gate of the city. And when he had seen them, he rose up and went to meet them. And he reverenced prone on the ground.
2 Il dit: "Je vous en prie, Messeigneurs! Veuillez descendre chez votre serviteur pour y passer la nuitet vous laver les pieds, puis au matin vous reprendrez votre route", mais ils répondirent: "Non, nous passerons lanuit sur la place."	2 And he said: “I beg you, my lords, turn aside to the house of your servant, and lodge there. Wash your feet, and in the morning you will advance on your way.” And they said, “Not at all. But we will lodge in the street.”
3 Il les pressa tant qu'ils allèrent chez lui et entrèrent dans sa maison. Il leur prépara un repas, fitcuire des pains sans levain, et ils mangèrent.	3 He pressed them very much to turn aside to him. And when they had entered his house, he made a feast for them, and he cooked unleavened bread, and they ate.
4 Ils n'étaient pas encore couchés que la maison fut cernée parles hommes de la ville, les gens deSodome, depuis les jeunes jusqu'aux vieux, tout le peuple sans exception.	4 But before they went to bed, the men of the city surrounded the house, from boys to old men, all the people together.
5 Ils appelèrent Lot et lui dirent: "Où sont les hommes qui sont venus chez toi cette nuit? Amène-lesnous pour que nous en abusions."	5 And they called out to Lot, and they said to him: “Where are the men who entered to you in the night? Bring them out here, so that we may know them.”
6 Lot sortit vers eux à l'entrée et, ayant fermé la porte derrière lui,	6 Lot went out to them, and blocking the door behind him, he said:
7 il dit: "Je vous en supplie, mes frères, ne commettez pas le mal!	7 “Do not, I ask you, my brothers, do not be willing to commit this evil.
8 Ecoutez: j'ai deux filles qui sont encore vierges, je vais vous les amener: faites-leur ce qui voussemble bon, mais, pour ces hommes, ne leur faites rien, puisqu'ils sont entrés sous l'ombre de mon toit."	8 I have two daughters who as yet have not known man. I will bring them out to you; abuse them as it pleases you, provided that you do no evil to these men, because they have entered under the shadow of my roof.”
9 Mais ils répondirent: "Ote-toi de là! En voilà un qui est venu en étranger, et il fait le juge! Eh bien,nous te ferons plus de mal qu'à eux!" Ils le pressèrent fort, lui Lot, et s'approchèrent pour briser la porte.	9 But they said, “Move away from there.” And again: “You have entered,” they said, “as a stranger; should you then judge? Therefore, we will afflict you yourself more than them.” And they acted very violently against Lot. And they were now at the point of breaking open the doors.
10 Mais les hommes sortirent le bras, firent rentrer Lot auprès d'eux dans la maison et refermèrent laporte.	10 And behold, the men put out their hand, and they pulled Lot in to them, and they closed the door.
11 Quant aux hommes qui étaient à l'entrée de la maison, ils les frappèrent de berlue, du plus petitjusqu'au plus grand, et ils n'arrivaient pas à trouver l'ouverture.	11 And they struck those who were outside with blindness, from the least to the greatest, so that they were not able to find the door.
12 Les hommes dirent à Lot: "As-tu encore quelqu'un ici? Tes fils, tes filles, tous les tiens qui sontdans la ville, fais-les sortir de ce lieu.	12 Then they said to Lot: “Do you have here anyone of yours? All who are yours, sons-in-law, or sons, or daughters, bring them out of this city.
13 Nous allons en effet détruire ce lieu, car grand est le cri qui s'est élevé contre eux à la face deYahvé, et Yahvé nous a envoyés pour les exterminer."	13 For we will eliminate this place, because the outcry among them has increased before the Lord, who sent us to destroy them.”
14 Lot alla parler à ses futurs gendres, qui devaient épouser ses filles: "Debout, dit-il, quittez ce lieu,car Yahvé va détruire la ville." Mais ses futurs gendres crurent qu'il plaisantait.	14 And so Lot, going out, spoke to his sons-in-law, who were going to receive his daughters, and he said: “Rise up. Depart from this place. For the Lord will destroy this city.” And it seemed to them that he was speaking playfully.
15 Lorsque pointa l'aurore, les Anges insistèrent auprès de Lot, en disant: "Debout! prends ta femmeet tes deux filles qui se trouvent là, de peur d'être emporté par le châtiment de la ville."	15 And when it was morning, the Angels compelled him, saying, “Arise, take your wife, and the two daughters that you have, lest you also should perish amid the wickedness of the city.”
16 Et comme il hésitait, les hommes le prirent par la main, ainsi que sa femme et ses deux filles, pourla pitié que Yahvé avait de lui. Ils le firent sortir et le laissèrent en dehors de la ville.	16 And, since he ignored them, they took his hand, and the hand of his wife, as well as that of his two daughters, because the Lord was sparing him.
17 Comme ils le menaient dehors, il dit: "Sauve-toi, sur ta vie! Ne regarde pas derrière toi et net'arrête nulle part dans la Plaine, sauve-toi à la montagne, pour n'être pas emporté!"	17 And they brought him out, and placed him beyond the city. And there they spoke to him, saying: “Save your life. Do not look not back. Neither should you stay in the entire surrounding region. But save yourself in the mountain, lest you also should perish.”
18 Lot leur répondit: "Non, je t'en prie, Monseigneur!	18 And Lot said to them: “I beg you, my lord,
19 Ton serviteur a trouvé grâce à tes yeux et tu as montré unegrande miséricorde à mon égard enm'assurant la vie. Mais moi, je ne puis pas me sauver à la montagne sans que m'atteigne le malheur et que jemeure.	19 though your servant has found grace before you, and you have magnified your mercy, which you have shown to me in saving my life, I cannot be saved on the mountain, lest perhaps some misfortune take hold of me and I die.
20 Voilà cette ville, assez proche pour y fuir, et elle est peu de chose. Permets que je m'y sauve --est-ce qu'elle n'est pas peu de chose? -- et que je vive!"	20 There is a certain city nearby, to which I can flee; it is a little one, and I will be saved in it. Is it not a modest one, and will not my soul live?”
21 Il lui répondit: "Je te fais encore cette grâce de ne pas renverser la ville dont tu parles.	21 And he said to him: “Behold, even now, I have heard your petitions about this, not to overturn the city on behalf of which you have spoken.
22 Vite, sauve-toi là-bas, car je ne puis rien faire avant que tu n'y sois arrivé." C'est pourquoi on adonné à la ville le nom de Coar.	22 Hurry and be saved there. For I cannot do anything until you enter there.” For this reason, the name of that city is called Zoar.
23 Au moment où le soleil se levait sur la terre et que Lot entrait à Coar,	23 The sun had risen over the land, and Lot had entered into Zoar.
24 Yahvé fit pleuvoir sur Sodome et sur Gomorrhe du soufre et du feu venant de Yahvé,	24 Therefore, the Lord rained upon Sodom and Gomorrah sulphur and fire, from the Lord, out of heaven.
25 et il renversa ces villes et toute la Plaine, avec tous les habitants des villes et la végétation du sol.	25 And he overturned these cities, and all the surrounding region: all the inhabitants of the cities, and everything that springs from the land.
26 Or la femme de Lot regarda en arrière, et elle devint une colonne de sel.	26 And his wife, looking behind herself, was turned into a statue of salt.
27 Levé de bon matin, Abraham vint à l'endroit où il s'était tenu devant Yahvé	27 Then Abraham, rising up in the morning, in the place where he had stood before with the Lord,
28 et il jeta son regard sur Sodome, sur Gomorrhe et sur toute la Plaine, et voici qu'il vit la fuméemonter du pays comme la fumée d'une fournaise!	28 looked out toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and the entire land of that region. And he saw embers rising up from the land like smoke from a furnace.
29 Ainsi, lorsque Dieu détruisit les villes de la Plaine, il s'est souvenu d'Abraham et il a retiré Lot dumilieu de la catastrophe, dans le renversement des villes où habitait Lot.	29 For when God overthrew the cities of that region, remembering Abraham, he freed Lot from the overthrow of the cities, in which he had dwelt.
30 Lot monta de Coar et s'établit dans la montagne avec ses deux filles, car il n'osa pas rester à Coar.Il s'installa dans une grotte, lui et ses deux filles.	30 And Lot ascended from Zoar, and he stayed on the mountain, and likewise his two daughters with him, (for he was afraid to stay in Zoar) and he dwelt in a cave, he and his two daughters with him.
31 L'aînée dit à la cadette: "Notre père est âgé et il n'y a pas d'homme dans le pays pour s'unir à nousà la manière de tout le monde.	31 And the elder said to the younger: “Our father is old, and no man remains in the land who can enter to us according to the custom of the whole world.
32 Viens, faisons boire du vin à notre père et couchons avec lui; ainsi, de notre père, nous susciteronsune descendance."	32 Come, let us inebriate him with wine, and let us sleep with him, so that we may be able to preserve offspring from our father.”
33 Elles firent boire, cette nuit-là, du vin à leur père, et l'aînée vint s'étendre près de son père, quin'eut conscience ni de son coucher ni de son lever.	33 And so they gave their father wine to drink that night. And the elder went in, and she slept with her father. But he did not perceive it, neither when his daughter lay down, nor when she rose up.
34 Le lendemain, l'aînée dit à la cadette: "La nuit dernière, j'ai couché avec mon père; faisons-luiboire du vin encore cette nuit et va coucher avec lui; ainsi, de notre père nous susciterons une descendance."	34 Likewise, the next day, the elder said to the younger: “Behold, yesterday I slept with my father, let us give him wine to drink yet again this night, and you will sleep with him, so that we may save offspring from our father.”
35 Elles firent boire du vin à leur père encore cette nuit-là, et la cadette s'étendit auprès de lui, quin'eut conscience ni de son coucher ni de son lever.	35 And then they gave their father wine to drink that night also, and the younger daughter went in, and slept with him. And not even then did he perceive when she lay down, or when she rose up.
36 Les deux filles de Lot devinrent enceintes de leur père.	36 Therefore, the two daughters of Lot conceived by their father.
37 L'aînée donna naissance à un fils et elle l'appela Moab; c'est l'ancêtre des Moabites d'aujourd'hui.	37 And the elder gave birth to a son, and she called his name Moab. He is the father of the Moabites, even to the present day.
38 La cadette aussi donna naissance à un fils et elle l'appela Ben-Ammi; c'est l'ancêtre des Bené-Ammon d'aujourd'hui.	38 Likewise, the younger gave birth to a son, and she called his name Ammon, that is, ‘the son of my people.’ He is the father of the Ammonites, even today.
