EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Elogiemos a los hombres ilustres, a los antepasados de nuestra raza.	1 Next let us praise il ustrious men, our ancestors in their successive generations.
2 El Señor los colmó de gloria, manifestó su grandeza desde tiempos remotos.	2 The Lord has created an abundance of glory, and displayed his greatness from earliest times.
3 Algunos ejercieron la autoridad real y se hicieron famosos por sus proezas; otros fueron consejeros por su inteligencia, transmitieron oráculos proféticos,	3 Some wielded authority as kings and were renowned for their strength; others were intel igent advisersand uttered prophetic sayings.
4 guiaron al pueblo con sus consejos, con su inteligencia para instruirlo y con las sabias palabras de su enseñanza;	4 Others directed the people by their advice, by their understanding of the popular mind, and by the wisewords of their teaching;
5 otros compusieron cantos melodiosos y escribieron relatos poéticos;	5 others composed musical melodies and set down bal ads;
6 otros fueron hombres ricos, llenos de poder, que vivían en paz en sus moradas.	6 others were rich and powerful, living peaceful y in their homes.
7 Todos ellos fueron honrados por sus contemporáneos y constituyeron el orgullo de su época.	7 Al these were honoured by their contemporaries and were the glory of their day.
8 Algunos de ellos dejaron un nombre y se los menciona todavía con elogios.	8 Some of them left a name behind them, so that their praises are stil sung.
9 Pero hay otros que cayeron en el olvido y desaparecieron como si no hubieran existido; pasaron como si no hubieran nacido, igual que sus hijos después de ellos.	9 While others have left no memory, and disappeared as though they had not existed. They are now asthough they had never been, and so too, their children after them.
10 No sucede así con aquellos, los hombres de bien, cuyas obras de justicia no han sido olvidadas.	10 But here is a list of il ustrious men whose good works have not been forgotten.
11 Con su descendencia se perpetúa la rica herencia que procede de ellos.	11 In their descendants they find a rich inheritance, their posterity.
12 Su descendencia fue fiel a las alianzas y también sus nietos, gracias a ellos.	12 Their descendants stand by the commandments and, thanks to them, so do their children's children.
13 Su descendencia permanecerá para siempre, y su gloria no se extinguirá.	13 Their offspring wil last for ever, their glory will not fade.
14 Sus cuerpos fueron sepultados en paz, y su nombre sobrevive a través de las generaciones.	14 Their bodies have been buried in peace, and their name lives on for al generations.
15 Los pueblos proclaman su sabiduría, y la asamblea anuncia su alabanza.	15 The peoples will proclaim their wisdom, the assembly wil celebrate their praises.
16 Henoc agradó al Señor y fue trasladado, él es modelo de conversión para las generaciones futuras.	16 Enoch pleased the Lord and was transferred to heaven, an example for the conversion of algenerations.
17 Noé fue hallado perfectamente justo, en el tiempo de la ira sirvió de renovación: gracias a él, quedó un resto en la tierra, cuando se desencadenó el diluvio.	17 Noah was found perfectly upright, in the time of retribution he became the heir: because of him aremnant was preserved for the earth at the coming of the Flood.
18 Alianzas eternas fueron selladas con él, para que nunca más un diluvio destruyera a los vivientes.	18 Everlasting covenants were made with him that never again should every living creature perish byflood.
19 Abraham es padre insigne de una multitud de naciones, y no hubo nadie que lo igualara en su gloria.	19 Abraham, the great ancestor of a host of nations, no one was ever his equal in glory.
20 El observó la Ley del Altísimo y entró en alianza con él; puso en su carne la señal de esta alianza y en la prueba fue hallado fiel.	20 He observed the Law of the Most High, and entered into a covenant with him. He confirmed thecovenant in his own flesh, and proved himself faithful under ordeal.
21 Por eso, Dios le aseguró con un juramento que las naciones serían bendecidas en su descendencia, que lo multiplicaría como el polvo de la tierra, que exaltaría a sus descendientes como las estrellas, y les daría en herencia el país, desde un mar hasta el otro y desde el Río hasta los confines de la tierra.	21 The Lord therefore promised him on oath to bless the nations through his descendants, to multiply himlike the dust on the ground, to exalt his descendants like the stars, and to give them the land as their heritage,from one sea to the other, from the River to the ends of the earth.
22 A Isaac, le hizo la misma promesa, a causa de su padre Abraham.	22 To Isaac too, for the sake of Abraham his father, he assured
23 La bendición de todos los hombres y la alianza las hizo descansar sobre la cabeza de Jacob; lo confirmó en las bendiciones recibidas y le dio la tierra en herencia; dividió el país en partes y las distribuyó entre las doce tribus.	23 the blessing of al humanity; he caused the covenant to rest on the head of Jacob. He confirmed himin his blessings and gave him the land as his inheritance; he divided it into portions, and shared it out among thetwelve tribes.
