| 1 Voici les préceptes et les ordonnances que vous devez observer dans le pays que le Seigneur, le Dieu de tes pères, te donnera, afin que tu le possèdes pendant tout le temps que tu seras sur la terre. | 1 “These are the precepts and judgments which you must do in the land which the Lord, the God of your fathers, will give to you, so that you may possess it during all the days that you shall walk upon the soil. |
| 2 Renversez tous les lieux où les nations dont vous posséderez le pays ont adoré leurs dieux, sur les hautes montagnes, et sur les collines, et sous tous les arbres touffus. | 2 Overturn all the places where the nations, which you will possess, worshipped their gods on lofty mountains, and on hills, and under every leafy tree. |
| 3 Détruisez leurs autels, brisez leurs statues, brûlez leurs bois profanes (lieux sacrés), réduisez leurs idoles en poussière, et effacez de tous ces lieux la mémoire de leur nom. | 3 Scatter their altars and break their statues. Burn their sacred groves with fire and crush their idols. Abolish their names from those places. |
| 4 Vous ne vous conduirez pas comme ces nations à l'égard du Seigneur votre Dieu ; | 4 But you shall not do the same to the Lord your God. |
| 5 mais vous viendrez au lieu que le Seigneur votre Dieu aura choisi d'entre toutes vos tribus pour y établir son nom, et pour y habiter : | 5 Instead, you shall approach the place which the Lord your God will choose among all your tribes, so that he may set his name there, and may dwell in that place. |
| 6 et vous offrirez en ce lieu-là vos holocaustes et vos victimes, les dîmes, les prémices des œuvres de vos mains, vos vœux et vos dons, les premiers-nés de vos bœufs et de vos brebis. | 6 And you shall offer, in that place, your holocausts and victims, the tithes and first-fruits of your hands, and your vows and gifts, the firstborn of the cattle and of the sheep. |
| 7 Vous mangerez là en la présence du Seigneur votre Dieu ; et vous y goûterez avec joie, vous et vos familles, de tous les fruits des travaux de vos mains, que le Seigneur votre Dieu aura bénis. | 7 And you shall eat it there, in the sight of the Lord your God. And you shall rejoice in all the things to which you shall set your hand: you and your household, which the Lord your God has blessed for you. |
| 8 Vous n'agirez plus alors comme nous le faisons aujourd'hui, où chacun fait ce qui paraît droit à ses yeux. | 8 You shall not do there the things that we are doing here today: each one doing what seems good to himself. |
| 9 Car vous n'êtes point encore entrés jusqu'à ce jour dans le repos et l'héritage que le Seigneur votre Dieu doit vous donner. | 9 For even until the present time, you did not arrive at the rest and the possession, which the Lord your God will give to you. |
| 10 Vous passerez le Jourdain, et vous habiterez dans le pays que le Seigneur votre Dieu vous donnera, afin que vous y soyez en repos du côté de tous les ennemis qui vous environnent, et que vous demeuriez sans aucune crainte | 10 You shall cross over the Jordan, and you shall live in the land which the Lord your God will give to you, so that you may have rest from all the surrounding enemies, and so that you may live without any fear, |
| 11 dans le lieu que le Seigneur votre Dieu aura choisi pour y établir (sa gloire et) son nom. C'est là que vous apporterez, selon l'ordre que je vous prescris, vos holocaustes, vos hosties, vos dîmes, et les prémices desœuvres de vos mains, et tout ce qu'il y aura de meilleur dans les dons que vous aurez fait vœu d'offrir au Seigneur. | 11 in the place which the Lord your God will choose, so that his name may be in it. To that place, you shall bring all the things that I instruct you: holocausts, and victims, and tithes, and the first-fruits of your hands, and whatever is best among the gifts that you shall vow to the Lord. |
| 12 C'est là que vous ferez des festins de réjouissance devant le Seigneur votre Dieu, vous, vos fils et vos filles, vos serviteurs et vos servantes, et les Lévites qui demeurent dans vos villes ; car ils n'ont point d'autre part, et ils ne possèdent point autre chose parmi vous. | 12 In that place, you shall feast before the Lord your God: you, and your sons and daughters, your men and women servants, as well as the Levite who dwells in your cities. For he has no other portion or possession among you. |
| 13 Prends (bien) garde de ne point offrir tes holocaustes dans tous les lieux que tu verras ; | 13 Take care that you do not offer your holocausts in any place that you see. |
| 14 mais offre tes victimes dans celui que le Seigneur aura choisi chez l'une de tes tribus, et observes-y tout ce que je t'ordonne. | 14 Instead, you shall offer sacrifices in the place which the Lord will choose within one of your tribes, and you shall do whatsoever I instruct you. |
| 15 (Mais) Si tu veux manger de la viande, si tu aimes à te nourrir de chair, tue des bêtes, et manges-en selon la bénédiction que le Seigneur ton Dieu t'aura donnée dans tes villes ; soit que ces bêtes soient impures, c'est-à-dire quelles aient quelque tache ou quelque défaut dans les membres du corps ; soit quelles soient pures, c'est-à-dire entières et sans tache, comme celles qui peuvent être offertes à Dieu ; manges-en, ainsi que tu manges de la biche ou du cerf. | 15 So, if you wish to eat, and if the eating of flesh pleases you, then kill and eat according to the blessing of the Lord your God, which he has given to you, in your cities: you may eat it whether it is unclean, that is, having blemish or defect, or whether it is clean, that is, whole and without blemish, of the kind which is permitted to be offered, such as the roe deer and the stag. |
| 16 Abstiens-toi seulement de manger le sang, et aie soin de le répandre à terre comme de l'eau. | 16 Only the blood you shall not eat. Instead, you shall pour it upon the ground like water. |
| 17 Tu ne pourras manger dans tes villes la dîme de ton froment (blé), de ton vin et de ton huile, ni les premiers-nés des bœufs et des autres bestiaux, ni rien de ce que tu auras voué, ou que tu voudras de toi-même offrir à Dieu, ni les prémices (desœuvres) de tes mains ; | 17 You may not eat in your towns the tithes of your crops, and your wine and oil, the firstborn of your herds and your flocks, nor anything which you will vow, or which you will offer spontaneously, nor the first-fruits of your hands. |
| 18 mais tu mangeras de ces choses devant le Seigneur ton Dieu, dans le lieu que le Seigneur ton Dieu aura choisi : toi, ton fils et ta fille, ton serviteur et ta servante, et les Lévites qui demeurent dans tes villes ; et tu prendras ta nourriture avec joie devant le Seigneur ton Dieu, en recueillant le fruit de tous les travaux de tes mains. | 18 But you shall eat these before the Lord your God, in the place which the Lord your God will choose: you, and your son, and your daughter, and your man servant and woman servant, and the Levite who dwells in your cities. And you shall rejoice and be refreshed in the sight of the Lord your God by all the things to which you will extend your hand. |
| 19 Prends (bien) garde de ne pas abandonner le Lévite, pendant tout le temps que tu seras sur la terre. | 19 Be careful, lest you abandon the Levite, at anytime while you are living in the land. |
| 20 Quand le Seigneur ton Dieu aura étendu tes limites, selon qu'il te l'a promis, et que tu voudras manger de la chair dont tu auras envie, | 20 When the Lord your God will have enlarged your borders, just as he has spoken to you, and when you would eat the flesh that your soul desires, |
| 21 si le lieu que le Seigneur ton Dieu aura choisi pour y établir son nom est éloigné, tu pourras tuer des bœufs et des brebis que tu auras, selon que je te l'ai ordonné, et tu en mangeras dans tes villes comme tu le désireras. | 21 but if the place which the Lord your God will choose, so that his name may be there, is far away, you may kill, from your herds and your flocks which you will have, in the manner I have instructed to you, and you may eat in your towns, as it pleases you. |
| 22 Tu mangeras de cette chair comme tu manges de celle des chèvres sauvages et des cerfs ; et le pur et l'impur en mangeront indifféremment. | 22 Just as the roe deer and the stag may be eaten, so also may you eat these: you may eat both the clean and the unclean alike. |
| 23 Garde-toi seulement de manger du sang de ces bêtes ; car leur sang (leur) tient lieu d'âme ; tu ne dois pas manger avec leur chair ce qui est comme leur âme. | 23 Only beware of this: you may not eat the blood. For their blood is for the soul. And because of this, you must not eat the soul with the flesh. |
| 24 Mais tu répandras ce sang à terre comme de l'eau, | 24 Instead, you shall pour it upon the ground like water, |
| 25 afin que tu sois heureux, toi et tes enfants après toi, ayant fait ce qui est agréable aux yeux du Seigneur. | 25 so that it may be well with you, and with your sons after you, when you will do what is pleasing in the sight of the Lord. |
| 26 Quant aux choses que tu auras consacrées, et que tu auras vouées au Seigneur, tu les prendras, et étant venu au lieu que le Seigneur aura choisi, | 26 But the things that you have sanctified and vowed to the Lord, you shall take up and bring to the place which the Lord will choose. |
| 27 tu présenteras en oblation la chair et le sang sur l'autel du Seigneur ton Dieu. Tu répandras le sang des victimes autour de l'autel, et tu te nourriras toi-même de leur chair. | 27 And you shall offer your oblations of flesh and of blood upon the altar of the Lord your God. You shall poor out the blood of your victims upon the altar. And you yourself shall eat the flesh. |
| 28 Observe et écoute bien toutes les choses que je t'ordonne, afin que tu sois heureux pour jamais, toi et tes enfants après toi, lorsque tu auras fait ce qui est bon et agréable aux yeux du Seigneur ton Dieu. | 28 Observe and heed all the things that I instruct to you, so that it may be well with you, and with your sons after you, continually, when you will do what is good and pleasing in the sight of the Lord your God. |
| 29 Quand le Seigneur ton Dieu aura exterminé devant toi les nations dont tu vas posséder le pays, que tu en seras actuellement en possession, et que tu habiteras dans leurs terres, | 29 When the Lord your God will have abolished before your face the nations, which you shall enter so as to possess them, and when you will possess them and live in their land, |
| 30 prends (bien) garde d' (de ne pas) imiter ces nations, après qu'elles auront été détruites à ton entrée, et de t'informer de leurs cérémonies, en disant : Je veux suivre moi-même le culte dont ces nations ont honoré leurs dieux. | 30 be careful that you do not imitate them, after they have been overturned at your arrival, and that you do not seek their ceremonies, saying: ‘Just as these nations have worshipped their gods, so also will I worship.’ |
| 31 Tu ne rendras point de semblable culte au Seigneur ton Dieu. Car elles ont fait, pour honorer leurs dieux, toutes les abominations que le Seigneur a en horreur, leur offrant en sacrifice leurs fils et leurs filles, et les brûlant dans le feu. | 31 You shall not act in like manner toward the Lord your God. For they have done to their gods all the abominations that the Lord spurns, offering their sons and daughters, and burning them with fire. |
| 32 Fais seulement en l'honneur du Seigneur ce que je t'ordonne, sans y rien ajouter ni en rien enlever. | 32 What I command to you, this only shall you do, for the Lord. You may neither add nor subtract anything.” |
