| 1 En ce même temps, il y avait là quelques hommes, qui lui annonçaient ce qui était arrivé aux Galiléens dont Pilate avait mêlé le sang avec celui de leurs sacrifices. | 1 There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. |
| 2 Et prenant la parole, il leur dit : Pensez-vous que ces Galiléens fussent plus pécheurs que tous les autres Galiléens, parce qu'ils ont souffert de telles choses ? | 2 And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things? |
| 3 Non, je vous le dis ; mais, si vous ne faites pénitence, vous périrez tous pareillement. | 3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. |
| 4 Comme ces dix-huit personnes sur lesquelles est tombée la tour de Siloé, et qu'elle a tuées : pensez-vous que leur dette fût plus grande que celle de tous les habitants de Jérusalem ? | 4 Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem? |
| 5 Non, je vous le dis ; mais, si vous ne faites pénitence, vous périrez tous pareillement. | 5 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. |
| 6 Il disait aussi cette parabole : Un homme avait un figuier planté dans sa vigne ; et il vint y chercher du fruit, et n'en trouva pas. | 6 He spake also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none. |
| 7 Alors il dit au vigneron : Voilà trois ans que je viens chercher des fruits sur ce figuier, et je n'en trouve pas ; coupe-le donc : pourquoi occupe-t-il encore le sol ? | 7 Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground? |
| 8 Le vigneron, répondant, lui dit : Seigneur, laisse-le encore cette année, jusqu'à ce que je creuse tout autour et que j'y mette du fumier ; | 8 And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it: |
| 9 peut-être portera-t-il du fruit ; sinon, tu le couperas ensuite. | 9 And if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down. |
| 10 Or Jésus enseignait dans leur synagogue les jours de sabbat. | 10 And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath. |
| 11 Et voici qu'il y vînt une femme, possédée d'un esprit qui la rendait infirme depuis dix-huit ans ; et elle était courbée, et ne pouvait pas du tout regarder en haut. | 11 And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself. |
| 12 Jésus, la voyant, l'appela auprès de lui et lui dit : Femme, tu es délivrée de ton infirmité. | 12 And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity. |
| 13 Et il lui imposa les mains ; et aussitôt elle redevint droite, et elle glorifiait Dieu. | 13 And he laid his hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God. |
| 14 Mais le chef de la synagogue prit la parole, indigné de ce que Jésus avait opéré cette guérison un jour de sabbat ; et il disait à la foule : Il y a six jours pendant lesquels on doit travailler ; venez donc en ces jours-là, et faites-vous guérir, et non pas le jour du sabbat. | 14 And the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because that Jesus had healed on the sabbath day, and said unto the people, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the sabbath day. |
| 15 Le Seigneur lui répondit, en disant : Hypocrites, est-ce que chacun de vous, le jour du sabbat, ne délie pas son boeuf ou son âne de la crèche, et ne les mène pas boire ? | 15 The Lord then answered him, and said, Thou hypocrite, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering? |
| 16 Et cette fille d'Abraham, que Satan avait liée voilà dix-huit ans, ne fallait-il pas la délivrer de ce lien le jour du sabbat ? | 16 And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day? |
| 17 Tandis qu'il parlait ainsi, tous ses adversaires rougissaient ; et tout le peuple se réjouissait de toutes les choses glorieuses qu'il accomplissait. | 17 And when he had said these things, all his adversaries were ashamed: and all the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him. |
| 18 Il disait aussi : A quoi est semblable le royaume de Dieu, et à quoi le comparerai-je ? | 18 Then said he, Unto what is the kingdom of God like? and whereunto shall I resemble it? |
| 19 Il est semblable à un grain de sénevé, qu'un homme a pris et mis dans son jardin ; et il a crû et est devenu un grand arbre, et les oiseaux du ciel se sont reposés sur ses branches. | 19 It is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and cast into his garden; and it grew, and waxed a great tree; and the fowls of the air lodged in the branches of it. |
| 20 Il dit encore : A quoi comparerai-je le royaume de Dieu ? | 20 And again he said, Whereunto shall I liken the kingdom of God? |
| 21 Il est semblable à du levain, qu'une femme a pris et mêlé dans trois mesures de farine, jusqu'à ce que tout fût fermenté. | 21 It is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened. |
| 22 Et il allait à travers les villes et les villages, enseignant, et faisant route vers Jérusalem. | 22 And he went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem. |
| 23 Or quelqu'un lui dit : Seigneur, y en a-t-il peu qui soient sauvés ? Et il leur dit : | 23 Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them, |
| 24 Efforcez-vous d'entrer par la porte étroite ; car beaucoup, je vous le dis, chercheront à entrer, et ne le pourront pas. | 24 Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able. |
| 25 Et lorsque le Père de famille sera entré, et aura fermé la porte, vous, étant dehors, vous commencerez à frapper à la porte, en disant : Seigneur, ouvrez-nous. Et vous répondant, il dira : Je ne sais d'où vous êtes. | 25 When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are: |
| 26 Alors vous commencerez à dire : Nous avons mangé et bu devant vous, et vous avez enseigné sur nos places publiques. | 26 Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets. |
| 27 Et il vous dira : Je ne sais d'où vous êtes ; retirez-vous de moi, vous tous, ouvriers d'iniquité. | 27 But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity. |
| 28 Là il y aura des pleurs et des grincements de dents, quand vous verrez Abraham, et Isaac, et Jacob, et tous les prophètes dans le royaume de Dieu, et que vous, vous serez chassés dehors. | 28 There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out. |
| 29 Il en viendra de l'orient et de l'occident, de l'aquilon et du midi, et ils se mettront à table dans le royaume de Dieu. | 29 And they shall come from the east, and from the west, and from the north, and from the south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God. |
| 30 Et voici, ce sont les derniers qui seront les premiers, et ce sont les premiers qui seront les derniers. | 30 And, behold, there are last which shall be first, and there are first which shall be last. |
| 31 Le même jour, quelques-uns des pharisiens s'approchèrent, et lui dirent : Allez-vous-en, et partez d'ici, car Hérode veut vous tuer. | 31 The same day there came certain of the Pharisees, saying unto him, Get thee out, and depart hence: for Herod will kill thee. |
| 32 Il leur dit : Allez, et dites à ce renard : Voici que je chasse les démons, et que j'opère des guérisons aujourd'hui et demain, et le troisième jour tout sera consommé pour moi. | 32 And he said unto them, Go ye, and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and I do cures to day and to morrow, and the third day I shall be perfected. |
| 33 Cependant il faut que je marche aujourd'hui, et demain, et le jour suivant, car il ne convient pas qu'un prophète périsse hors de Jérusalem. | 33 Nevertheless I must walk to day, and to morrow, and the day following: for it cannot be that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem. |
| 34 Jérusalem, Jérusalem, qui tues les prophètes, et qui lapides ceux qui te sont envoyés, combien de fois ai-je voulu rassembler tes enfants, comme un oiseau rassemble sa couvée sous ses ailes, et tu n'as pas voulu ! | 34 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not! |
| 35 Voici que votre maison vous sera laissée déserte. Je vous le dis, vous ne me verrez plus, jusqu'à ce que vienne le moment où vous direz : Béni soit celui qui vient au nom du Seigneur ! | 35 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate: and verily I say unto you, Ye shall not see me, until the time come when ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord. |
