| 1 Ecoutez ce que dit le Seigneur. Lève-toi, plaide contre les montagnes, et que les collines entendent ta voix. | 1 Hear ye now what the LORD saith; Arise, contend thou before the mountains, and let the hills hear thy voice. |
| 2 Que les montagnes et les solides fondements de la terre écoutent le jugement du Seigneur ; car le Seigneur va entrer en jugement (a une discussion) avec son peuple, et plaider (il entrera en jugement) avec Israël. | 2 Hear ye, O mountains, the LORD's controversy, and ye strong foundations of the earth: for the LORD hath a controversy with his people, and he will plead with Israel. |
| 3 Mon peuple, que t'ai-je fait ? en quoi t'ai-je causé de la peine ? Réponds-moi. | 3 O my people, what have I done unto thee? and wherein have I wearied thee? testify against me. |
| 4 Est-ce parce que je t'ai (re)tiré du pays d'Egypte, et que je t'ai délivré de la maison des esclaves, et que j'ai envoyé devant toi Moïse, Aaron et Marie ? | 4 For I brought thee up out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed thee out of the house of servants; and I sent before thee Moses, Aaron, and Miriam. |
| 5 Mon peuple, souviens-toi, je te prie, du dessein de Balac, roi de Moab, et de ce que lui répondit Balaam, fils de Béor, depuis Sétim jusqu'à Galgala, et reconnais (afin que tu reconnusses) les justices du Seigneur. | 5 O my people, remember now what Balak king of Moab consulted, and what Balaam the son of Beor answered him from Shittim unto Gilgal; that ye may know the righteousness of the LORD. |
| 6 Qu'offrirai-je au Seigneur qui soit digne de lui ? Fléchirai-je le genou devant le Dieu très haut ? Lui offrirai-je des holocaustes et des veaux (génisses) d'un an ? | 6 Wherewith shall I come before the LORD, and bow myself before the high God? shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves of a year old? |
| 7 Est-ce que le Seigneur peut être apaisé par des milliers de béliers, ou par de nombreux milliers de boucs engraissés ? Donnerai-je mon premier-né pour mon crime, le fruit de mon sein pour le péché de mon âme ? | 7 Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, or with ten thousands of rivers of oil? shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? |
| 8 Je t'indiquerai, ô homme, ce qui est bon et ce que le Seigneur demande de toi ; c'est de pratiquer la justice, d'aimer la miséricorde, et de marcher (avec crainte) devant ton Dieu. | 8 He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God? |
| 9 La voix du Seigneur crie à la ville, et le salut sera pour ceux qui craignent votre nom. Ecoutez, tribus ; mais qui l'approuvera ? | 9 The LORD's voice crieth unto the city, and the man of wisdom shall see thy name: hear ye the rod, and who hath appointed it. |
| 10 Les trésors de l'iniquité sont encore comme un feu dans la maison de l'impie, et la mesure trop petite est pleine de colère. | 10 Are there yet the treasures of wickedness in the house of the wicked, and the scant measure that is abominable? |
| 11 Puis-je approuver la balance injuste et les poids trompeurs du sac(het) ? | 11 Shall I count them pure with the wicked balances, and with the bag of deceitful weights? |
| 12 C'est par là que ses riches sont remplis d'iniquité ; ses habitants profèrent (parlaient) le mensonge, et leur langue est (était) trompeuse dans leur bouche. | 12 For the rich men thereof are full of violence, and the inhabitants thereof have spoken lies, and their tongue is deceitful in their mouth. |
| 13 J'ai donc commencé à te frapper à mort, à cause de tes péchés. | 13 Therefore also will I make thee sick in smiting thee, in making thee desolate because of thy sins. |
| 14 Tu mangeras, et tu ne seras pas rassasié ; ton humiliation sera au milieu de toi ; tu saisiras, et (tu) ne sauveras pas ; et ceux que tu auras sauvés, je les livrerai à l'épée. | 14 Thou shalt eat, but not be satisfied; and thy casting down shall be in the midst of thee; and thou shalt take hold, but shalt not deliver; and that which thou deliverest will I give up to the sword. |
| 15 Tu sèmeras, et tu ne moissonneras pas ; tu presseras l'olive, et tu ne t'oindras pas d'huile ; tu fouleras le raisin (tu feras du moût), et tu ne boiras pas de vin. | 15 Thou shalt sow, but thou shalt not reap; thou shalt tread the olives, but thou shalt not anoint thee with oil; and sweet wine, but shalt not drink wine. |
| 16 Tu as gardé les ordres d'Amri et toute la manière d'agir de la maison d'Achab, et tu as marché selon leurs volontés ; c'est pourquoi je te livrerai à la destruction, je ferai de tes habitants un sujet de raillerie, et vous porterez l'opprobre de mon peuple. | 16 For the statutes of Omri are kept, and all the works of the house of Ahab, and ye walk in their counsels; that I should make thee a desolation, and the inhabitants thereof an hissing: therefore ye shall bear the reproach of my people. |
