| 1 Abram entrant déjà dans sa quatre-vingt-dix-neuvième année, le Seigneur lui apparut, et lui dit : Je suis le Dieu tout-puissant ; marche devant moi, et sois parfait. | 1 And after he began to be ninety and nine years old, the Lord appeared to him: and said unto him: I am the Almighty God: walk before me, and be perfect. |
| 2 Je ferai alliance avec toi, et je multiplierai ta race jusqu'à l'infini (prodigieusement). | 2 And I will make my covenant between me and thee: and I will multiply thee exceedingly. |
| 3 Abram se prosterna le visage à terre. | 3 Abram tell flat on his face. |
| 4 Et Dieu lui dit : C'est moi (qui te parle) ; je ferai alliance avec toi, et tu seras le père de nations nombreuses. | 4 And God said to him: I AM, and my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father. of many nations. |
| 5 Tu ne t'appelleras plus Abram, mais tu t'appelleras Abraham ; parce que je t'ai établi pour être le père d'une multitude de nations. | 5 Neither shall thy name be called any more Abram: but thou shalt be called Abraham: because I have made thee a father of many nations. |
| 6 Je ferai croître ta race à l'infini (prodigieusement) ; je te rendrai chef de nations, et des rois sortiront de toi. | 6 And I will make thee increase, exceedingly, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee. |
| 7 (Ainsi) J'affermirai mon alliance avec toi, et après toi avec ta race (postérité) dans la suite de leurs générations, par un pacte éternel : afin que je sois ton Dieu, et le Dieu de ta postérité après toi. | 7 And I will establish my covenant between me and thee, and between thy sad after thee in their generations, by a perpetual covenant: to be a God to thee, and to thy seed after thee. |
| 8 (Et) Je te donnerai, à toi et à ta race, la terre où tu demeures maintenant comme étranger (de ton pèlerinage) ; tout le pays de Chanaan, comme une possession perpétuelle ; et je serai le Dieu de tes descendants. | 8 And I will give to thee, and to thy seed, the land of thy sojournment, all the land of Chanaan for a perpetual possession, and I will be their God. |
| 9 Dieu dit encore à Abraham : Tu garderas donc aussi mon alliance, et ta postérité la gardera après toi de race en race. | 9 Again God said to Abraham: And thou therefore shalt keep my covenant, and thy seed after thee in their generations. |
| 10 Voici le pacte que je fais avec toi, afin que tu l'observes, et ta postérité après toi : Tous les mâles d'entre vous seront circoncis. | 10 This is my covenant which you shall observe, between me and you, and thy seed after thee: All the male kind of you shall be circumcised: |
| 11 Vous circoncirez votre chair, afin que ce soit la marque de l'alliance que je fais avec vous. | 11 And you shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin, that it may be for a h sign of the covenant between me and you. |
| 12 L'enfant de huit jours sera circoncis parmi vous ; et, dans la suite de toutes les générations, tous les enfants mâles, tant les esclaves qui seront nés dans votre maison que tous ceux que vous aurez achetés, et qui ne seront point de votre race, seront circoncis. | 12 An infant of eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every man child in your generations: he that is born in the house, as well as the bought servant shall be circumcised, and whosoever is not of your stock: |
| 13 Ce pacte sera marqué dans votre chair, comme le signe d'une alliance éternelle. | 13 And my covenant shall be in your flesh for a perpetual covenant. |
| 14 Tout mâle dont la chair n'aura point été circoncise sera exterminé du milieu de son peuple, parce qu'il aura violé (rendu vaine) mon alliance. | 14 The male, whose dash of his foreskin shall not be circumcised, that soul shall be destroyed out of his people: because he hath broken my covenant. |
| 15 Dieu dit encore à Abraham : Tu n'appelleras plus ta femme Saraï, mais Sara. | 15 God said also to Abraham: Sarai thy wife thou shalt not call Sarai, but Sara. |
| 16 Je la bénirai, et je te donnerai un fils né d'elle, que je bénirai aussi : il sera un chef de nations ; et des rois de divers peuples sortiront de lui. | 16 And I will bless her, and of her I will give thee a son, whom I will bless, and he shell become nations, and kings of people shall spring from him. |
| 17 Abraham se prosterna le visage contre terre, et il rit en disant au fond de son cœur : (Pensez-vous qu') Un homme de cent ans aurait-il donc bien un fils ? et Sara enfanterait-elle à quatre-vingt-dix ans ? | 17 Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, saying in his heart: Shall a son, thinkest thou, be born to him that is a hundred years old? and shall Sara that is ninety years old bring forth? |
| 18 Et il dit à Dieu : Faites-moi la grâce qu'Ismaël vive (devant vous) ! | 18 And he said to God: O that Ismael may live before thee. |
| 19 Dieu dit encore à Abraham : Sara ta femme t'enfantera un fils que tu nommeras Isaac, et je ferai un pacte avec lui, et avec sa race après lui, afin que mon alliance avec eux soit éternelle. | 19 And God said to Abraham: Sara thy wife shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name Isaac, and I will establish my covenant with him for a perpetual covenant, and with his seed after him. |
| 20 Je t'ai aussi exaucé touchant Ismaël. Je le bénirai, et je lui donnerai une postérité très grande et très nombreuse. Douze princes sortiront de lui, et je le rendrai le chef d'un grand peuple. | 20 And as for Ismael I have also heard thee. Behold, I will bless him, and increase, and multiply him exceedingly: he shall beget twelve chiefs, and I will make him a great nation. |
| 21 Mais l'alliance que je fais avec toi s'établira dans Isaac, que Sara t'enfantera dans un an, au temps actuel. | 21 But my covenant I will establish with Isaac, whom Sara shall bring forth to thee at this time in the next year. |
| 22 L'entretien de Dieu avec Abraham étant fini, Dieu se retira. | 22 And when he had left oil speaking with him, God went up from Abraham. |
| 23 Alors Abraham prit Ismaël son fils, et tous les esclaves nés dans sa maison, tous ceux qu'il avait achetés, (et généralement) tous les mâles qui étaient parmi ses serviteurs, et il les circoncit tous aussitôt en ce même jour, selon que Dieu le lui avait commandé. | 23 And Abraham took Ismael his son, and all that were born in his house: and all whom he had bought, every male among the men of his house: and he circumcised the flesh of their foreskin forthwith the very same day, as God had commanded him. |
| 24 Abraham avait quatre-vingt-dix-neuf ans lorsqu'il se circoncit lui-même. | 24 Abraham was ninety and nine years old, when he circumcised the flesh of his foreskin. |
| 25 Et Ismaël avait treize ans accomplis, lorsqu'il reçut la circoncision. | 25 And Ismael his son was full thirteen years old at the time of his circumcision. |
| 26 Abraham et son fils Ismaël furent circoncis en un (le) même jour. | 26 dummy verses inserted by amos |
| 27 Et en ce même jour encore furent (pareillement) circoncis tous les mâles de sa maison, tant les esclaves nés chez lui, que ceux qu'il avait achetés, et qui étaient nés en des pays étrangers. | 27 And all the men of his house, as well they that were born in his house, as the bought servants and strangers were circumcised with him. |
| 28 The selfsame day was Abraham circumcised and Ismael his son. |
