| 4 Je rends grâces continuellement à mon Dieu pour vous, à cause de la grâce de Dieu, qui vous a été donnée dans le Christ Jésus; | 4 I thank my God always on your behalf, for the grace of God which is given you by Jesus Christ; |
| 5 car en Lui vous êtes devenus riches en toutes choses, en toute parole et en toute science, | 5 That in every thing ye are enriched by him, in all utterance, and in all knowledge; |
| 6 le témoignage du Christ ayant été ainsi confirmé parmi vous, | 6 Even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you: |
| 7 de sorte qu'il ne vous manque aucune grâce, à vous qui attendez la manifestation de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ, | 7 So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ: |
| 8 lequel vous affermira encore jusqu'à la fin, pour que vous soyez irréprochables au jour de l'avènement de Jésus-Christ notre Seigneur. | 8 Who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. |
| 9 Il est fidèle le Dieu par lequel vous avez été appelés à la société de Son Fils, Jésus-Christ notre Seigneur. | 9 God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord. |
| 10 Or je vous exhorte, mes frères, par le nom de Notre-Seigneur Jésus-Christ, à tenir tous un même langage, et à n'avoir point de schismes parmi vous, mais à être tous bien unis dans un même esprit et dans un même sentiment. | 10 Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. |
| 11 Car j'ai été informé à votre sujet, mes frères, par ceux de la maison de Chloé, qu'il y a des contestations parmi vous. | 11 For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you. |
| 12 Je veux dire que chacun de vous parle ainsi: Moi je suis à Paul; et moi, à Apollo; et moi, à Céphas; et moi, au Christ. | 12 Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ. |
| 13 Le Christ est-Il divisé? Est-ce que Paul a été crucifié pour vous? ou avez-vous été baptisés au nom de Paul? | 13 Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul? |
| 14 Je rends grâces à Dieu de ce que je n'ai baptisé aucun de vous, excepté Crispus et Caïus; | 14 I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius; |
| 15 afin que personne ne dise que vous avez été baptisés en mon nom. | 15 Lest any should say that I had baptized in mine own name. |
| 16 J'ai encore baptisé la famille de Stéphanas; au reste, je ne sais pas si j'en ai baptisé quelque autre. | 16 And I baptized also the household of Stephanas: besides, I know not whether I baptized any other. |
| 17 En effet, le Christ ne m'a pas envoyé pour baptiser, mais pour prêcher l'Evangile: non point avec la sagesse de la parole, afin que la Croix du Christ ne soit pas rendue vaine. | 17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. |
| 18 Car la parole de la Croix est une folie pour ceux qui périssent; mais pour ceux qui sont sauvés, c'est-à-dire pour nous, elle est la puissance de Dieu. | 18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. |
| 19 Aussi est-il écrit: Je détruirai la sagesse des sages, et Je réprouverai la prudence des prudents. | 19 For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. |
| 20 Où est le sage? où est le scribe? où est le disputeur de ce siècle? Dieu n'a-t-Il pas frappé de folie la sagesse de ce monde? | 20 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? |
| 21 Car parce que le monde, avec sa sagesse, n'a pas connu Dieu dans la sagesse de Dieu, il a plu à Dieu de sauver les croyants par la folie de la prédication. | 21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. |
| 22 En effet, les Juifs demandent des miracles, et les Grecs cherchent la sagesse; | 22 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: |
| 23 mais nous, nous prêchons le Christ crucifié, scandale pour les Juifs, et folie pour les païens, | 23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; |
| 24 mais pour ceux qui sont appelés, soit Juifs, soit Grecs, le Christ puissance de Dieu et sagesse de Dieu. | 24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. |
| 25 Car ce qui est folie en Dieu est plus sage que les hommes, et ce qui est faiblesse en Dieu est plus fort que les hommes. | 25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men. |
| 26 Voyez, mes frères, quels sont parmi vous ceux qui ont été appelés: il n'y a ni beaucoup de sages selon la chair, ni beaucoup de puissants, ni beaucoup de nobles. | 26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: |
| 27 Mais Dieu a choisi les choses folles du monde, pour confondre les sages; et Dieu a choisi les choses faibles du monde, pour confondre les forts; | 27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; |
| 28 et Dieu a choisi les choses viles du monde et les choses méprisables, et celles qui ne sont rien, pour détruire celles qui sont, | 28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: |
| 29 afin que nulle chair ne se glorifie devant Lui. | 29 That no flesh should glory in his presence. |
| 30 C'est par Lui que vous êtes dans le Christ Jésus, qui est devenu pour nous, de la part de Dieu, sagesse, justice, sanctification et rédemption; | 30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: |
| 31 afin que, selon qu'il est écrit, Celui qui se glorifie se glorifie dans le Seigneur. | 31 That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. |
