BIBBIA VOLGARE	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Colui che vuole essere vendicato, da Dio troverae la vendetta, e servando serverae li peccati suoi.	1 Whoever exacts vengeance wil experience the vengeance of the Lord, who keeps strict account of sin.
2 Perdona al prossimo tuo, offendendo egli a te; e allora a te pregante fieno dimessi li peccati.	2 Pardon your neighbour any wrongs done to you, and when you pray, your sins will be forgiven.
3 L'uomo allo uomo serva l'ira, e domanda medicina da Dio?	3 If anyone nurses anger against another, can one then demand compassion from the Lord?
4 Non hae misericordia inverso l'uomo somigliante a sè, e priega de' peccati suoi?	4 Showing no pity for someone like oneself, can one then plead for one's own sins?
5 Elli, essendo carne, ritiene l'ira, e domanda a Dio benignitade? chi pregherae per li peccati di colui?	5 Mere creature of flesh, yet cherishing resentment!-who wil forgive one for sinning?
6 Ricòrdati della morte, e rimanti d' inimicare.	6 Remember the last things, and stop hating, corruption and death, and be faithful to the commandments.
7 La beatitudine e la morte sta nelli comandamenti della legge.	7 Remember the commandments, and do not bear your fel ow il -wil , remember the covenant of the MostHigh, and ignore the offence.
8 Ricordati del [timore] di Dio e non.	8 Avoid quarrel ing and you wil sin less; for the hot-tempered provokes quarrels,
9 Ricòrdati del testamento di Dio, e (non) disprezza la ignoranza del prossimo.	9 a sinner sows trouble between friends, introducing discord among the peaceful.
10 Astienti della lite, e iscemerai li peccati.	10 The way a fire burns depends on its fuel, a quarrel spreads in proportion to its violence; a man's ragedepends on his strength, his fury grows fiercer in proportion to his wealth.
11 L'uomo iracundo accende la lite; l'uomo peccatore turberae li amici, e metterà nimistade in mezzo di coloro che hanno pace.	11 A sudden quarrel kindles fire, a hasty dispute leads to bloodshed.
12 Secondo le legne della selva, così arde il fuoco; e secondo la possa dell' uomo, così sarae l' iracundia sua, e secondo la ricchezza sua alzerae l'ira sua.	12 Blow on a spark and up it flares, spit on it and out it goes; both are the effects of your mouth.
13 Il combattimento affrettato accende il fuoco; la lite affrettata ispande il sangue, e la lingua testimoniando (falso) rapporta morte.	13 A curse on the scandal-monger and double-talker, such a person has ruined many who lived inconcord.
14 Se tu soffierai [nella scintilla], come fuoco arderae; e se tu sputerai sopra quella, si spegnerae; l'uno e l'altro esce della bocca.	14 That third tongue has shattered the peace of many and driven them from nation to nation; it has pul eddown fortified cities, and overthrown the houses of the great.
15 Il mormoratore e di due lingue è maledetto; molti ne turberae che avevano pace.	15 The third tongue has had upright wives divorced, depriving them of reward for their hard work.
16 La lingua terza molti ne ha commosso, e disperse coloro da gente in gente.	16 No one who listens to it wil ever know peace of mind, wil ever live in peace again.
17 Distrusse le cittadi murate de' ricchi, e cavoe da' piedi le case de' grandi.	17 A stroke of the whip raises a weal, but a stroke of the tongue breaks bones.
18 Taglioe le potenze de' popoli, e dissolse le forte genti.	18 Many have fal en by the edge of the sword, but many more have fal en by the tongue.
19 La lingua terza gittoe in terra le femine (forti) virate, e privolle delle loro fatiche.	19 Blessed is anyone who has been sheltered from it, and has not experienced its fury, who has notdragged its yoke about, or been bound in its chains;
20 Chi ascolta quella, non averae riposo; nè riterrae amico nel quale si riposi.	20 for its yoke is an iron yoke, its chains are bronze chains;
21 La lingua terza induce effusione di sangue; ma la ferita della lingua rompe l'ossa.	21 the death it inflicts is a miserable death, Sheol is preferable to it.
22 Molti caddono nel taglio del coltello, ma non così come quelli che perirono per la lingua sua.	22 It cannot gain a hold over the devout, they are not burnt by its flames.
23 Beato colui che è difeso dalla lingua malvagia, e colui che non trapasserae per la iracundia di quella, e colui che non trasse il giogo d' essa, e non è legato nelli suoi legami.	23 Those who desert the Lord wil fal into it, it wil flare up inextinguishably among them, it wil be letloose against them like a lion, it wil tear them like a leopard.
24 Però che il giogo suo è giogo di ferro, e lo legame suo sì è legame di rame.	24 Be sure you put a thorn-hedge round your property, lock away your silver and gold;
25 La morte di quella sì è morte iniquissima; e l'inferno sì è più tosto utile, che quella.	25 then make scales and weights for your words, and put a door with bolts across your mouth.
26 La sua perseveranza non durerae, ma guadagnerae la via delli ingiusti; la fiamma sua non arderae li giusti.	26 Take care you take no false step through it, in case you fal a prey to him who lies in wait.
27 Colui il quale abbandona Iddio, caderà in quella; e arderae in quella e non si spegnerae; e fia messa incontro a loro sì come leone, e sì come leopardo guasterae coloro.
28 Circonda le tue orecchie di spine, e non voler udire la lingua iniqua; e alla tua bocca porrai l'uscio e (alle tue orecchie) le chiavedure.
29 Raccogli l'oro tuo e l'argento tuo, e pesa le parole tue, e fa freni alla bocca tua.
30 Guàrdati che per avventura tu non manchi nella lingua tua, e cadi nel conspetto de' tuoi nimici li quali t' agguatano, e sia la caduta tua da non sanare infino alla morte.
