1 Il Signore si rivolse a Giobbe dicendo:	1 The LORD then said to Job:
2 "Colui che disputa con l'Onnipotente, si ritira? Colui che critica Dio, voglia rispondere!".	2 Will we have arguing with the Almighty by the critic? Let him who would correct God give answer!
3 Giobbe rispose al Signore così:	3 Then Job answered the LORD and said:
4 "Ecco, sono ben piccino, che cosa posso replicare? Mi porto la mano alla bocca.	4 Behold, I am of little account; what can I answer you? I put my hand over my mouth.
5 Ho parlato una volta, non insisterò; una seconda volta, non aggiungerò nulla".	5 Though I have spoken once, I will not do so again; though twice, I will do so no more.
6 Il Signore rispose a Giobbe dal turbine e disse:	6 Then the LORD addressed Job out of the storm and said:
7 "Cingiti i fianchi come un eroe; ti interrogherò e tu mi istruirai.	7 Gird up your loins now, like a man. I will question you, and you tell me the answers!
8 Vorresti tu veramente cancellare il mio giudizio, per condannarmi ed avere tu ragione?	8 Would you refuse to acknowledge my right? Would you condemn me that you may be justified?
9 Hai tu un braccio come quello di Dio, e puoi tuonare con voce pari alla sua?	9 Have you an arm like that of God, or can you thunder with a voice like his?
10 Ornati dunque di gloria e di maestà, rivestiti di splendore e di fasto!	10 Adorn yourself with grandeur and majesty, and array yourself with glory and splendor.
11 Riversa i furori della tua collera, e con uno sguardo abbatti tutti i superbi.	11 Let loose the fury of your wrath;
12 Umilia con uno sguardo ogni arrogante, schiaccia i malvagi ovunque si trovino.	12 tear down the wicked and shatter them. Bring down the haughty with a glance;
13 Nascondili nella polvere tutti insieme, rinchiudi al buio i loro volti.	13 bury them in the dust together; in the hidden world imprison them.
14 Allora anch'io ti renderò omaggio, perché la tua destra ti ha dato vittoria.	14 Then will I too acknowledge that your own right hand can save you.
15 Ecco il beemot, che io ho creato al pari di te; mangia erba come il bue.	15 See, besides you I made Behemoth, that feeds on grass like an ox.
16 Osserva la forza dei suoi fianchi e la potenza del suo ventre muscoloso.	16 Behold the strength in his loins, and his vigor in the sinews of his belly.
17 Esso drizza la sua coda come un cedro, i nervi delle sue cosce si intrecciano saldi.	17 He carries his tail like a cedar; the sinews of his thighs are like cables.
18 Le sue ossa sono tubi di bronzo, le sue vertebre come spranghe di ferro.	18 His bones are like tubes of bronze; his frame is like iron rods.
19 Egli è la prima delle opere di Dio; solo il suo Creatore lo minaccia di spada.	19 He came at the beginning of God's ways, and was made the taskmaster of his fellows;
20 Benché i monti gli offrano i loro prodotti e tutte le bestie domestiche vi si trastullino,	20 For the produce of the mountains is brought to him, and of all wild animals he makes sport.
21 egli si sdraia sotto i loti, nel folto del canneto e della palude.	21 Under the lotus trees he lies, in coverts of the reedy swamp.
22 Gli fanno ombra i loti selvatici, lo circondano i salici del torrente.	22 The lotus trees cover him with their shade; all about him are the poplars on the bank.
23 Se il fiume si gonfia, egli non teme; è sicuro, anche se il Giordano gli salisse fino alla bocca.	23 If the river grows violent, he is not disturbed; he is tranquil though the torrent surges about his mouth.
24 Chi mai potrà prenderlo per gli occhi, o con lacci forargli le narici?	24 Who can capture him by his eyes, or pierce his nose with a trap?
25 Puoi tu pescare con l'amo il leviatàn, e con la fune legare la sua lingua?	25 Can you lead about Leviathan with a hook, or curb his tongue with a bit?
26 Puoi tu ficcargli un giunco nelle narici e con un uncino forargli la mascella?	26 Can you put a rope into his nose, or pierce through his cheek with a gaff?
27 Ti rivolgerà egli molte suppliche e ti indirizzerà dolci parole?	27 Will he then plead with you, time after time, or address you with tender words?
28 Concluderà egli un patto con te, perché tu lo prenda come servo per sempre?	28 Will he make an agreement with you that you may have him as a slave forever?
29 Giocherai tu con lui come con un passerotto e lo legherai per trastullare le tue figlie?	29 Can you play with him, as with a bird? Can you put him in leash for your maidens?
30 Commerceranno con lui i pescatori e lo spartiranno tra i mercanti?	30 Will the traders bargain for him? Will the merchants divide him up?
31 Gli puoi tempestare di frecce le squame e colpire la sua testa con la fiocina?	31 Can you fill his hide with barbs, or his head with fish spears?
32 Metti su di lui la mano, pensa alla lotta! Non ricomincerai.	32 Once you but lay a hand upon him, no need to recall any other conflict!
