Ephesians 4

CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAINVULGATA
And so, as a prisoner in the Lord, I beg you to walk in a manner worthy of the vocation to which you have been called:1 Obsecro itaque vos ego vinctus in Domino, ut digne ambuletis vocatione, qua vocati estis,
with all humility and meekness, with patience, supporting one another in charity.2 cum omni humilitate, et mansuetudine, cum patientia, supportantes invicem in caritate,
Be anxious to preserve the unity of the Spirit within the bonds of peace.3 solliciti servare unitatem Spiritus in vinculo pacis.
One body and one Spirit: to this you have been called by the one hope of your calling:4 Unum corpus, et unus Spiritus, sicut vocati estis in una spe vocationis vestræ.
one Lord, one faith, one baptism,5 Unus Dominus, una fides, unum baptisma.
one God and Father of all, who is over all, and through all, and in us all.6 Unus Deus et Pater omnium, qui est super omnes, et per omnia, et in omnibus nobis.
Yet to each one of us there has been given grace according to the measure allotted by Christ.7 Unicuique autem nostrum data est gratia secundum mensuram donationis Christi.
Because of this, he says: “Ascending on high, he took captivity itself captive; he gave gifts to men.”8 Propter quod dicit : Ascendens in altum, captivam duxit captivitatem : dedit dona hominibus.
Now that he has ascended, what is left except for him also to descended, first to the lower parts of the earth?9 Quod autem ascendit, quid est, nisi quia et descendit primum in inferiores partes terræ ?
He who descended is the same one who also ascended above all the heavens, so that he might fulfill everything.10 Qui descendit, ipse est et qui ascendit super omnes cælos, ut impleret omnia.
And the same one granted that some would be Apostles, and some Prophets, yet truly others evangelists, and others pastors and teachers,11 Et ipse dedit quosdam quidem apostolos, quosdam autem prophetas, alios vero evangelistas, alios autem pastores et doctores,
for the sake of the perfection of the saints, by the work of the ministry, in the edification of the body of Christ,12 ad consummationem sanctorum in opus ministerii, in ædificationem corporis Christi :
until we all meet in the unity of faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God, as a perfect man, in the measure of the age of the fullness of Christ.13 donec occurramus omnes in unitatem fidei, et agnitionis Filii Dei, in virum perfectum, in mensuram ætatis plenitudinis Christi :
So may we then no longer be little children, disturbed and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the wickedness of men, and by the craftiness which deceives unto error.14 ut jam non simus parvuli fluctuantes, et circumferamur omni vento doctrinæ in nequitia hominum, in astutia ad circumventionem erroris.
Instead, acting according to truth in charity, we should increase in everything, in him who is the head, Christ himself.15 Veritatem autem facientes in caritate, crescamus in illo per omnia, qui est caput Christus :
For in him, the whole body is joined closely together, by every underlying joint, through the function allotted to each part, bringing improvement to the body, toward its edification in charity.16 ex quo totum corpus compactum et connexum per omnem juncturam subministrationis, secundum operationem in mensuram uniuscujusque membri, augmentum corporis facit in ædificationem sui in caritate.
And so, I say this, and I testify in the Lord: that from now on you should walk, not as the Gentiles also walk, in the vanity of their mind,17 Hoc igitur dico, et testificor in Domino, ut jam non ambuletis, sicut et gentes ambulant in vanitate sensus sui,
having their intellect obscured, being alienated from the life of God, through the ignorance that is within them, because of the blindness of their hearts.18 tenebris obscuratum habentes intellectum, alienati a vita Dei per ignorantiam, quæ est in illis, propter cæcitatem cordis ipsorum,
Such as these, despairing, have given themselves over to sexual immorality, carrying out every impurity with rapacity.19 qui desperantes, semetipsos tradiderunt impudicitiæ, in operationem immunditiæ omnis in avaritiam.
But this is not what you have learned in Christ.20 Vos autem non ita didicistis Christum,
For certainly, you have listened to him, and you have been instructed in him, according to the truth that is in Jesus:21 si tamen illum audistis, et in ipso edocti estis, sicut est veritas in Jesu,
to set aside your earlier behavior, the former man, who was corrupted, by means of desire, unto error,22 deponere vos secundum pristinam conversationem veterem hominem, qui corrumpitur secundum desideria erroris.
and so be renewed in the spirit of your mind,23 Renovamini autem spiritu mentis vestræ,
and so put on the new man, who, in accord with God, is created in justice and in the holiness of truth.24 et induite novum hominem, qui secundum Deum creatus est in justitia, et sanctitate veritatis.
Because of this, setting aside lying, speak the truth, each one with his neighbor. For we are all part of one another.25 Propter quod deponentes mendacium, loquimini veritatem unusquisque cum proximo suo : quoniam sumus invicem membra.
“Be angry, but do not be willing to sin.” Do not let the sun set over your anger.26 Irascimini, et nolite peccare : sol non occidat super iracundiam vestram.
Provide no place for the devil.27 Nolite locum dare diabolo :
Whoever was stealing, let him now not steal, but rather let him labor, working with his hands, doing what is good, so that he may have something to distribute to those who suffer need.28 qui furabatur, jam non furetur : magis autem laboret, operando manibus suis, quod bonum est, ut habeat unde tribuat necessitatem patienti.
Let no evil words proceed from your mouth, but only what is good, toward the edification of faith, so as to bestow grace upon those who listen.29 Omnis sermo malus ex ore vestro non procedat : sed si quis bonus ad ædificationem fidei ut det gratiam audientibus.
And do not be willing to grieve the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you have been sealed, unto the day of redemption.30 Et nolite contristare Spiritum Sanctum Dei : in quo signati estis in diem redemptionis.
Let all bitterness and anger and indignation and outcry and blasphemy be taken away from you, along with all malice.31 Omnis amaritudo, et ira, et indignatio, et clamor, et blasphemia tollatur a vobis cum omni malitia.
And be kind and merciful to one another, forgiving one another, just as God has forgiven you in Christ.32 Estote autem invicem benigni, misericordes, donantes invicem sicut et Deus in Christo donavit vobis.
