Proverbs 31

NEW JERUSALEM	DIODATI
1 The sayings of Lemuel king of Massa, taught him by his mother:	1 Le parole del re Lemuel; il sermone profetico, col quale sua madre l’ammaestrò.
2 What, my son! What, son of my womb! What, son of my vows!	2 CHE, figliuol mio? Che, figliuolo del seno mio? E che, figliuolo de’ miei voti?
3 Do not expend your energy on women nor your wealth on those who ruin kings.	3 Non dar la tua forza alle donne, Nè i tuoi costumi a ciò che è per distruggere i re.
4 Not for kings, O Lemuel, not for kings the drinking of wine, not for princes the love of liquor,	4 Ei non si conviene ai re, o Lemuel, Ei non si conviene ai re d’esser bevitori di vino, Nè a’ principi d’esser bevitori di cervogia;
5 for fear that in liquor they forget what they have decreed and pervert the course of justice against allthe poor.	5 Che talora eglino, avendo bevuto, non dimentichino gli statuti, E non pervertano il diritto di qualunque povero afflitto.
6 Procure strong drink for someone about to die, wine for him whose heart is heavy:	6 Date la cervogia al miserabile, E il vino a quelli che sono in amaritudine d’animo;
7 let him drink and forget his misfortune, and remember his misery no more.	7 Acciocchè bevano, e dimentichino la lor miseria, E non si ricordino più de’ lor travagli.
8 Make your views heard, on behalf of the dumb, on behalf of al the unwanted;	8 Apri la tua bocca per lo mutolo, Per mantenere la ragion di tutti quelli che sono in pericolo di perire.
9 make your views heard, pronounce an upright verdict, defend the cause of the poor and the wretched.	9 Apri la tua bocca; giudica giustamente; Fa’ diritto al povero ed al bisognoso
10 The truly capable woman -- who can find her? She is far beyond the price of pearls.	10 Chi troverà una donna di valore? Il prezzo di essa avanza di gran lunga quello delle perle.
11 Her husband's heart has confidence in her, from her he wil derive no little profit.	11 Il cuor del suo marito si fida in lei; Ed egli non avrà giammai mancamento di veste.
12 Advantage and not hurt she brings him al the days of her life.	12 Ella gli fa del bene, e non del male, Tutto il tempo della sua vita.
13 She selects wool and flax, she does her work with eager hands.	13 Ella cerca della lana e del lino, E lavora delle sue mani con diletto.
14 She is like those merchant vessels, bringing her food from far away.	14 Ella è come le navi de’ mercatanti: Ella fa venire il suo pane da lungi.
15 She gets up while it is stil dark giving her household their food, giving orders to her serving girls.	15 Ella si leva, mentre è ancora notte, E dà il cibo alla sua famiglia, Ed ordina alle sue serventi il lor lavoro.
16 She sets her mind on a field, then she buys it; with what her hands have earned she plants avineyard.	16 Ella considera un campo, e l’acquista; Ella pianta una vigna del frutto delle sue mani.
17 She puts her back into her work and shows how strong her arms can be.	17 Ella si cinge i lombi di forza, E fortifica le sue braccia.
18 She knows that her affairs are going wel ; her lamp does not go out at night.	18 Perciocchè il suo traffico è buono, ella lo gusta; La sua lampana non si spegne di notte.
19 She sets her hands to the distaff, her fingers grasp the spindle.	19 Ella mette la mano al fuso, E le sue palme impugnano la conocchia.
20 She holds out her hands to the poor, she opens her arms to the needy.	20 Ella allarga la mano all’afflitto, E porge le mani al bisognoso.
21 Snow may come, she has no fears for her household, with al her servants warmly clothed.	21 Ella non teme della neve per la sua famiglia; Perciocchè tutta la sua famiglia è vestita a doppio.
22 She makes her own quilts, she is dressed in fine linen and purple.	22 Ella si fa de’ capoletti; Fin lino, e porpora sono il suo vestire.
23 Her husband is respected at the city gates, taking his seat among the elders of the land.	23 Il suo marito è conosciuto nelle porte, Quando egli siede con gli anziani del paese.
24 She weaves materials and sel s them, she supplies the merchant with sashes.	24 Ella fa de’ veli, e li vende; E delle cinture, le quali ella dà a’ mercatanti.
25 She is clothed in strength and dignity, she can laugh at the day to come.	25 Ella è vestita di gloria e d’onore; E ride del giorno a venire.
26 When she opens her mouth, she does so wisely; on her tongue is kindly instruction.	26 Ella apre la bocca con sapienza, E la legge della benignità è sopra la sua lingua.
27 She keeps good watch on the conduct of her household, no bread of idleness for her.	27 Ella considera gli andamenti della sua casa, E non mangia il pan di pigrizia.
28 Her children stand up and proclaim her blessed, her husband, too, sings her praises:	28 I suoi figliuoli si levano, e la predicano beata, Il suo marito anch’egli, e la loda;
29 'Many women have done admirable things, but you surpass them all!'	29 Dicendo: Molte donne si son portate valorosamente; Ma tu le sopravanzi tutte.
30 Charm is deceitful, and beauty empty; the woman who fears Yahweh is the one to praise.	30 La grazia è cosa fallace, e la bellezza è cosa vana; Ma la donna che ha il timor del Signore sarà quella che sarà lodata.
31 Give her a share in what her hands have worked for, and let her works tel her praises at the citygates.	31 Datele del frutto delle sue mani; E lodinla le sue opere nelle porte
