DOUAI-RHEIMS	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Call now if there be any that will answer thee, and turn to some of the saints.	1 Grida, dunque! C'è forse qualcuno che ti risponde? A chi tra i santi ti rivolgerai?
2 Anger indeed killeth the foolish, and envy slayeth the little one.	2 In verità, il dolore reca la morte allo stolto e la collera fa morire l'inesperto.
3 I have seen a fool with a strong root, and I cursed his beauty immediately.	3 Ho visto l'insensato mettere radici, e subito vidi maledetta la sua dimora.
4 His children shall be far from safety, and shall be destroyed in the gate, and there shall be none to deliver them.	4 I suoi figli sono privi di aiuto, sono oppressi in tribunale senza difensore.
5 Whose harvest the hungry shall eat, and the armed man shall take him by violence, and the thirsty shall drink up his riches.	5 Le loro messi le divora l'affamato, rubandole malgrado le siepi, e l'assetato ne inghiotte gli averi.
6 Nothing upon earth is done without a voice cause, and sorrow doth not spring out of the ground.	6 Certo, la sventura non nasce dal suolo e la disgrazia non germoglia dalla terra,
7 Man is born to labour and the bird to fly.	7 ma è l'uomo che genera la miseria, come le aquile volano in alto.
8 Wherefore I will pray to the Lord, and address my speech to God:	8 Quanto a me, mi rivolgerei a Dio, a Dio affiderei la mia causa,
9 Who doth great things and unsearchable and wonderful things without number:	9 a lui che compie prodigi insondabili e meraviglie senza numero,
10 Who giveth rain upon the face of the earth, and watereth all things with waters:	10 che manda la pioggia sulla terra e versa le acque sulle campagne;
11 Who setteth up the humble on high, and comforteth with health those that mourn.	11 innalza gli umili e gli afflitti solleva a prosperità.
12 Who bringeth to nought the designs of the malignant, so that their hands cannot accomplish what they had begun:	12 Rende vani i piani degli astuti, così che le loro mani non realizzino le loro previsioni.
13 Who catcheth the wise in their craftiness, and disappointeth the counsel of the wicked:	13 Accalappia i sapienti nelle loro astuzie e fa abortire gli intrighi degli scaltri.
14 They shall meet with darkness in the day, and grope at noonday as in the night.	14 In pieno giorno incappano nelle tenebre e a mezzogiorno brancolano come di notte.
15 But he shall save the needy from the sword of their mouth, and the poor from the hand of the violent.	15 Così Dio salva il povero dalla lingua affilata, dalla mano violenta.
16 And to the needy there shall he hope, but iniquity shall draw in her mouth.	16 C'è una speranza per il misero, mentre l'ingiustizia chiude la bocca.
17 Blessed is the mall whom God correcteth: refuse not therefore the chastising of the lord:	17 Perciò felice l'uomo che Dio corregge. Non ricusare, dunque, la lezione dell'Onnipotente!
18 For he woundeth, and cureth: he striketh, and his hands shall heal.	18 Veramente, è lui che produce la piaga e la medica, colpisce e con le sue mani risana.
19 In six troubles he shall deliver thee, and in the seventh, evil shall not touch thee.	19 Da sei angustie ti libererà, e alla settima non soffrirai nessun male.
20 In famine he shall deliver thee from death: and in battle, from the hand of the sword.	20 In tempo di fame ti scamperà dalla morte e nel combattimento dal filo della spada.
21 Thou shalt he hidden from the scourge of the tongue: and thou shalt not fear calamity when it cometh.	21 Sarai al riparo dalla lingua pungente e non avrai timore, quando giunge la rovina.
22 In destruction and famine then shalt laugh: and thou shalt not be afraid of the beasts of the earth.	22 Te ne riderai della sventura e della fame e non temerai le fiere della campagna.
23 But thou shalt have a covenant with the stones of the lands, and the beasts of the earth shall be at pence with thee.	23 Farai un'alleanza con le pietre del campo e sarai in pace con le bestie selvagge.
24 And thou shalt know that thy tabernacle is in peace, and visiting thy beauty thou shalt not sin.	24 Sperimenterai la prosperità della tua tenda e ispezionando la tua dimora, non ti mancherà nulla.
25 Thou shalt know also that thy seed shall be multiplied, and thy offspring like the grass of the earth.	25 Scoprirai che la tua prole è numerosa, e i tuoi rampolli come l'erba del prato.
26 Thou shalt enter into the grave in abundance, as a heap of wheat is brought in its season.	26 Te ne andrai alla tomba senza acciacchi, come il grano raccolto nella sua stagione.
27 Behold, this is even so, as we have searched oat: which thou having heard, consider it thoroughly in thy mind.	27 Ecco quanto abbiamo studiato a fondo: è così. Ascolta e fanne profitto".
