1 Call now if there be any that will answer thee, and turn to some of the saints.	1 Chiama, dunque! Ti risponderà forse qualcuno? E a chi fra i santi ti rivolgerai?
2 Anger indeed killeth the foolish, and envy slayeth the little one.	2 Poiché allo stolto dà morte lo sdegno e la collera fa morire lo sciocco.
3 I have seen a fool with a strong root, and I cursed his beauty immediately.	3 Io ho visto lo stolto metter radici, ma imputridire la sua dimora all'istante.
4 His children shall be far from safety, and shall be destroyed in the gate, and there shall be none to deliver them.	4 I suoi figli sono lungi dal prosperare, sono oppressi alla porta, senza difensore;
5 Whose harvest the hungry shall eat, and the armed man shall take him by violence, and the thirsty shall drink up his riches.	5 l'affamato ne divora la messe e gente assetata ne succhia gli averi.
6 Nothing upon earth is done without a voice cause, and sorrow doth not spring out of the ground.	6 Non esce certo dalla polvere la sventura né germoglia dalla terra il dolore,
7 Man is born to labour and the bird to fly.	7 ma è l'uomo che genera pene, come le scintille volano in alto.
8 Wherefore I will pray to the Lord, and address my speech to God:	8 Io, invece, mi rivolgerei a Dio e a Dio esporrei la mia causa:
9 Who doth great things and unsearchable and wonderful things without number:	9 a lui, che fa cose grandi e incomprensibili, meraviglie senza numero,
10 Who giveth rain upon the face of the earth, and watereth all things with waters:	10 che dà la pioggia alla terra e manda le acque sulle campagne.
11 Who setteth up the humble on high, and comforteth with health those that mourn.	11 Colloca gli umili in alto e gli afflitti solleva a prosperità;
12 Who bringeth to nought the designs of the malignant, so that their hands cannot accomplish what they had begun:	12 rende vani i pensieri degli scaltri e le loro mani non ne compiono i disegni;
13 Who catcheth the wise in their craftiness, and disappointeth the counsel of the wicked:	13 coglie di sorpresa i saggi nella loro astuzia e manda in rovina il consiglio degli scaltri.
14 They shall meet with darkness in the day, and grope at noonday as in the night.	14 Di giorno incappano nel buio e brancolano in pieno sole come di notte,
15 But he shall save the needy from the sword of their mouth, and the poor from the hand of the violent.	15 mentre egli salva dalla loro spada l'oppresso, e il meschino dalla mano del prepotente.
16 And to the needy there shall he hope, but iniquity shall draw in her mouth.	16 C'è speranza per il misero e l'ingiustizia chiude la bocca.
17 Blessed is the mall whom God correcteth: refuse not therefore the chastising of the lord:	17 Felice l'uomo, che è corretto da Dio: perciò tu non sdegnare la correzione dell'Onnipotente,
18 For he woundeth, and cureth: he striketh, and his hands shall heal.	18 perché egli fa la piaga e la fascia, ferisce e la sua mano risana.
19 In six troubles he shall deliver thee, and in the seventh, evil shall not touch thee.	19 Da sei tribolazioni ti libererà e alla settima non ti toccherà il male;
20 In famine he shall deliver thee from death: and in battle, from the hand of the sword.	20 nella carestia ti scamperà dalla morte e in guerra dal colpo della spada;
21 Thou shalt he hidden from the scourge of the tongue: and thou shalt not fear calamity when it cometh.	21 sarai al riparo dal flagello della lingua, né temerai quando giunge la rovina.
22 In destruction and famine then shalt laugh: and thou shalt not be afraid of the beasts of the earth.	22 Della rovina e della fame ti riderai né temerai le bestie selvatiche;
23 But thou shalt have a covenant with the stones of the lands, and the beasts of the earth shall be at pence with thee.	23 con le pietre del campo avrai un patto e le bestie selvatiche saranno in pace con te.
24 And thou shalt know that thy tabernacle is in peace, and visiting thy beauty thou shalt not sin.	24 Conoscerai la prosperità della tua tenda, visiterai la tua proprietà e non sarai deluso.
25 Thou shalt know also that thy seed shall be multiplied, and thy offspring like the grass of the earth.	25 Vedrai, numerosa, la prole, i tuoi rampolli come l'erba dei prati.
26 Thou shalt enter into the grave in abundance, as a heap of wheat is brought in its season.	26 Te ne andrai alla tomba in piena maturità, come si ammucchia il grano a suo tempo.
27 Behold, this is even so, as we have searched oat: which thou having heard, consider it thoroughly in thy mind.	27 Ecco, questo abbiamo osservato: è così. Ascoltalo e sappilo per tuo bene.
