| 2 Pues conviene que el obispo sea irreprochable, marido de una sola mujer, sobrio, sensato, ordenado, hospitalario, hábil para enseñar, | 2 Now a bishop must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, sensible, dignified, hospitable, an apt teacher, |
| 3 no dado al vino ni amigo de reyertas, sino comprensivo; que no sea agresivo ni amigo del dinero; | 3 no drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, and no lover of money. |
| 4 que gobierne bien su propia casa y se haga obedecer de sus hijos con todo respeto. | 4 He must manage his own household well, keeping his children submissive and respectful in every way; |
| 5 Pues si uno no sabe gobernar su propia casa, ¿cómo cuidará de la iglesia de Dios? | 5 for if a man does not know how to manage his own household, how can he care for God's church? |
| 6 Que no sea alguien recién convertido a la fe, por si se le sube a la cabeza y es condenado lo mismo que el diablo. | 6 He must not be a recent convert, or he may be puffed up with conceit and fall into the condemnation of the devil; |
| 7 Conviene además que tenga buena fama entre los de fuera, para que no caiga en descrédito ni en el lazo del diablo. | 7 moreover he must be well thought of by outsiders, or he may fall into reproach and the snare of the devil. |
| 8 En cuanto a los diáconos, sean asimismo respetables, sin doble lenguaje, no aficionados al mucho vino ni dados a negocios sucios; | 8 Deacons likewise must be serious, not double-tongued, not addicted to much wine, not greedy for gain; |
| 9 que guarden el misterio de la fe con la conciencia pura. | 9 they must hold the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience. |
| 10 Tienen que ser probados primero y, cuando se vea que son intachables, que ejerzan el ministerio. | 10 And let them also be tested first; then if they prove themselves blameless let them serve as deacons. |
| 11 Las mujeres, igualmente, que sean respetables, no calumniadoras, sobrias, fieles en todo. | 11 The women likewise must be serious, no slanderers, but temperate, faithful in all things. |
| 12 Los diáconos sean maridos de una sola mujer, que gobiernen bien a sus hijos y sus propias casas. | 12 Let deacons be the husband of one wife, and let them manage their children and their households well; |
| 13 Porque quienes ejercen bien el ministerio logran buena reputación y mucha confianza en lo referente a la fe que se funda en Cristo Jesús. | 13 for those who serve well as deacons gain a good standing for themselves and also great confidence in the faith which is in Christ Jesus. |

| 15 por si tardo, para que sepas cómo conviene conducirse en la casa de Dios, que es la Iglesia del Dios vivo, columna y fundamento de la verdad. | 15 if I am delayed, you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and bulwark of the truth. |
| 16 En verdad es grande el misterio de la piedad, el cual fue manifestado en la carne, | justificado en el Espíritu, | mostrado a los ángeles, | proclamado en las naciones, | creído en el mundo, | recibido en la gloria. | 16 Great indeed, we confess, is the mystery of our religion: He was manifested in the flesh, vindicated in the Spirit, seen by angels, preached among the nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory. |
