| 1 Elihú tomó la palabra y dijo: | 1 And Elihu continued, and said: |
| 2 Sopórtame un poco, y yo te instruiré: aún queda algo por decir en defensa de Dios. | 2 "Bear with me a little, and I will show you, for I have yet something to say on God's behalf. |
| 3 Traeré de lejos mi saber para justificar a mi Creador | 3 I will fetch my knowledge from afar, and ascribe righteousness to my Maker. |
| 4 No, mis palabras no mienten: es un maestro consumado el que está junto a ti. | 4 For truly my words are not false; one who is perfect in knowledge is with you. |
| 5 Dios es grande y no se retracta, él es grande por la firmeza de sus decisiones. | 5 "Behold, God is mighty, and does not despise any; he is mighty in strength of understanding. |
| 6 El no deja vivir al malvado y hace justicia a los oprimidos | 6 He does not keep the wicked alive, but gives the afflicted their right. |
| 7 No retira sus ojos de los justos, los sienta en el trono con los reyes y los exalta para siempre. | 7 He does not withdraw his eyes from the righteous, but with kings upon the throne he sets them for ever, and they are exalted. |
| 8 Si a veces están atados con cadenas, o prisioneros en los lazos de opresión, | 8 And if they are bound in fetters and caught in the cords of affliction, |
| 9 es para denunciarles sus acciones y las rebeldías que cometieron en su arrogancia. | 9 then he declares to them their work and their transgressions, that they are behaving arrogantly. |
| 10 El les abre el oído para que se corrijan y los exhorta a convertirse de la maldad. | 10 He opens their ears to instruction, and commands that they return from iniquity. |
| 11 Si ellos escuchan y se someten, acaban sus días prósperamente y sus años en medio de delicias; | 11 If they hearken and serve him, they complete their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasantness. |
| 12 pero si no escuchan, atraviesan el Canal y perecen a causa de su ignorancia. | 12 But if they do not hearken, they perish by the sword, and die without knowledge. |
| 13 Los de corazón impío, que acumulan rencor y no piden auxilio cuando él los encadena, | 13 "The godless in heart cherish anger; they do not cry for help when he binds them. |
| 14 mueren en plena juventud, como se consumen los de vida licenciosa. | 14 They die in youth, and their life ends in shame. |
| 15 Con la opresión, él salva al oprimido y le abre el oído por medio de la aflicción. | 15 He delivers the afflicted by their affliction, and opens their ear by adversity. |
| 16 También a ti te invita a pasar de la angustia a un lugar espacioso y sin estrechez, donde tu mesa, bien servida, estará llena de manjares. | 16 He also allured you out of distress into a broad place where there was no cramping, and what was set on your table was full of fatness. |
| 17 Pero si tu medida está colmada para el juicio condenatorio, el juicio y la sentencia te arrastrarán. | 17 "But you are full of the judgment on the wicked; judgment and justice seize you. |
| 18 Que el furor no te incite a la rebeldía ni te extravíe la magnitud de la expiación. | 18 Beware lest wrath entice you into scoffing; and let not the greatness of the ransom turn you aside. |
| 19 ¿Acaso en el peligro valdrán ante Dios tus riquezas y todos los alardes de la fuerza? | 19 Will your cry avail to keep you from distress, or all the force of your strength? |
| 20 No suspires por aquella noche en que los pueblos serán arrancados de su sitio, | 20 Do not long for the night, when peoples are cut off in their place. |
| 21 ¡Cuídate de volverte hacia la maldad, ya que por eso fuiste probado con la desgracia! | 21 Take heed, do not turn to iniquity, for this you have chosen rather than affliction. |
| 22 Sí, Dios es sublime por la fuerza: ¿quién instruye como él? | 22 Behold, God is exalted in his power; who is a teacher like him? |
| 23 ¿Quién inspecciona su conducta? ¿Quién puede decirle: «Has obrado mal»? | 23 Who has prescribed for him his way, or who can say, 'Thou hast done wrong? |
| 24 Acuérdate más bien de exaltar su obra, que otros hombres celebren con sus cantos. | 24 "Remember to extol his work, of which men have sung. |
| 25 Todo el mundo la contempla, el hombre la percibe desde lejos. | 25 All men have looked on it; man beholds it from afar. |
| 26 Sí, Dios es tan grande que no podemos comprenderlo, el número de sus años es insondable. | 26 Behold, God is great, and we know him not; the number of his years is unsearchable. |
| 27 El atrae hacia lo alto las gotas de agua y destila la lluvia que alimenta las vertientes: | 27 For he draws up the drops of water, he distils his mist in rain |
| 28 la lluvia que derraman las nubes y que cae a raudales sobre el suelo. | 28 which the skies pour down, and drop upon man abundantly. |
| 29 ¿Quién comprenderá el desplazamiento de las nubes y el fragor que sale de su morada? | 29 Can any one understand the spreading of the clouds, the thunderings of his pavilion? |
| 30 El extiende su luz a su alrededor y sumerge las profundidades del océano. | 30 Behold, he scatters his lightning about him, and covers the roots of the sea. |
| 31 Así él sustenta a los pueblos y les da alimento en abundancia. | 31 For by these he judges peoples; he gives food in abundance. |
| 32 Cubre de rayos la palma de sus manos y le señala un blanco seguro. | 32 He covers his hands with the lightning, and commands it to strike the mark. |
| 33 Su trueno anuncia su llegada, y en su ira, él crea la tempestad. | 33 Its crashing declares concerning him, who is jealous with anger against iniquity. |
