1 Tutte le schiere dei Filistei si adunarono in Afec; Israele pose il campo à presso alla fontana che era a Iezrael.	1 The Philistines mustered al their forces at Aphek while the Israelites pitched camp near the spring inJezreel.
2 Or mentre i satrapi dei Filistei marciavano coi drappelli di cento e di miile uomini, e David con la, sua gente era nella retroguardia con Achis,	2 The Philistine commanders marched past with their hundreds and their thousands, and David and hismen brought up the rear with Achish.
3 i principi dei Filistei dissero ad Achis: « Che fanno qui questi Ebrei? » Achis rispose ai principi dei Filistei: « Come? Non conoscete David, che fu servo di Saul re d'Israele, che sta con me da molti giorni, o meglio da anni, nel quale io, dal giorno in cui si rifugiò presso di me fino ad oggi, nulla ho trovato da ridire? »	3 The Philistine chiefs asked, 'What are these Hebrews doing?' Achish replied to them, 'Why, this isDavid the servant of Saul, king of Israel, who has been with me for the last year or two. I have had no fault to findwith him from the day he gave himself up to me until the present time.'
4 Ma i principi dei Filistei, sdegnati contro di lui, gii dissero: « Torni indietro quest'uomo, se ne stia nel luogo dove l'hai costituito; ma non scenda con noi alla battaglia, chè non diventi nostro nemico, quando avremo cominciato a combattere. Infatti, come potrebbe egli placare il suo signore, se non colle nostre teste?	4 But the Philistine chiefs were angry with him. 'Send the man back,' they said, 'make him go back to theplace which you assigned to him. He cannot go into battle with us, in case he turns on us once battle is joined.Would there be a better way for the man to regain his master's favour than with the heads of these men here?
5 Non è costui quel David del quale si cantava nei cori: « Saul ha percosso i suoi mille, e David i suoi dieci mila » ?	5 Is not this the David of whom they sang as they danced: Saul has kil ed his thousands, and David histens of thousands'?
6 Achis allora, chiamato David,gli disse: « Viva il Signore! Tu sei uomo retto e dabbene negli occhi miei, tal'è pur la tua condotta con me nel campo; io non ho trovato niente da ridire in te, dal giorno in cui venisti da me fino ad oggi; ma tu non piaci ai satrapi.	6 So Achish called David and said, 'As Yahweh lives, you are loyal, and I am quite content with al yourdoings in our campaigning together, since I have found no fault with you from the day you came to me until thepresent time. But you are not acceptable to the chiefs.
7 Torna adunque indietro e vattene in pace, per non offendere gli occhi dei satrapi dei Filistei ».	7 So go home, in peace, rather than antagonise them.'
8 David disse ad Achis: « Che ho dunque fatto? che hai trovato in me tuo servo dal giorno in cui apparvi al tuo cospetto fino ad oggi, per non permettermi di venire a combattere contro i nemici del re mio signore? »	8 'But what have I done,' David asked Achish, 'what fault have you had to find with your servant from theday I entered your service to the present time, for me not to be al owed to go and fight the enemies of my lordthe king?'
9 Achis rispose e disse a David: « Io riconosco che tu sei buono negli occhi miei, come un angelo di Dio; ma i satrapi dei Filistei han detto: Egli non deve salire con noi alla battaglia,	9 In reply, Achish said to David, 'In my opinion, it is true, you are as good as an angel of God; but thePhilistine chiefs have said, "He must not go into battle with us."
10 Alzati dunque di buon mattino, tu e i servi del tuo signore che sono venuti con te; alzatevi durante la notte per poter partire appena comincerà a farsi giorno ».	10 So get up early tomorrow morning, with your master's servants who came with you, and go to theplace which I assigned to you. Do not harbour resentment, since personal y I have no fault to find with you. Getup early tomorrow morning and, as soon as it is light, be off.'
11 David adunque si levò di notte colla sua gente per partire al mattino, e tornare nel paese dei Filistei. E i Filistei salirono a Iezrael.	11 So David and his men got up early to leave at dawn and go back to Philistine territory. And thePhilistines marched on Jezreel.
