1 Questi vennero a David in Siceleg, mentre egli seguitava a fuggire Saul figlio di Cis. Erano uomini fortissimi, illustri guerrieri,	1 These are the men who rallied to David at Ziklag while he was stil being kept away from Saul son ofKish; they were among the champions, the warriors.
2 tiratori d'arco, abili a scagliar sassi colla fionda con ambedue le mani e a tirar dritte le saette, eran congiunti di Saul, della tribù di Beniamino.	2 They were equipped with bows and could sling stones or shoot arrows from the bow with either righthand or left. 16 Vennero anche quelli di Beniamino e di Giuda alla fortezza dove stava David.	16 These were the men who once crossed the Jordan in the first month, when it had overflowed itsbanks and had driven out al the lowlanders to east and west.
17 David usci loro incontro e disse: « Se siete venuti da me con intenzioni di pace per porgermi aiuto, il mio cuore sia unito al vostro; ma se mi tendete insidie, secondando i miei nemici, mentre non v'è alcuna iniquità nelle mie mani, lo vegga il Dio dei nostri padri e ne giudichi».	17 Some of the Benjaminites and Judahites also joined David at the stronghold.
18 Allora lo spirito investi Amasai, il capo dei trenta, che disse: « Noi siam tuoi, o David, siamo con te, o figlio d'Isai, pace, pace a te, e pace a quel­li che t'aiutano, perchè il tuo Dio ti soccorre ». David allora li accolse e li costituì capi della truppa.	18 When David came forward to meet them, he responded to them by saying, 'If you have come to mewith peaceful intent to help me, you will find me a good friend. But if it is to betray me to my enemies, seeing thatI have done nothing wrong, may the God of our ancestors take note and condemn you.'
19 Anche di quei di Manasse passarono a David, mentre egli andava coi Filistei per combattere contro Saul; ma egli non combattè con loro, perchè i prin­cipi dei Filistei, tenuto consiglio, lo rimandarono, dicendo: « A rischio della nostra testa egli ritornerà a Saul suo signore ».	19 Then the Spirit invested Amasai the leader of the Thirty: 'We are your men, David; with you, son ofJesse! Peace be with you, peace be with you; peace be with those who help you! For your God has helped you!'And David accepted them, including them among his more senior officers.
20 Or quando egli ritornò in Siceleg, si rifugiarono presso di lui, di quelli di Manasse, Ednas, Iozabad, Iedihel, Michele, Ednas, Iozabad, Eliu, Salati, capi di mille uomini in Manasse.	20 Some Manassehites also defected to David as he was setting out with the Philistines to fight Saul.But he did not help the Philistines because, after consultation, their chiefs sent him away, saying, 'He wil defectto his master Saul and it wil cost us our heads!'
21 Questi diedero aiuto a David contro i predoni, ed essendo uomini fortissimi furon fatti principi dell'esercito.	21 He was on his way to Ziklag when these Manassehites deserted to him: Adnah, Jozabad, Jediael,Michael, Jozabad, Elihu, Zil ethai, chiefs of thousands in Manasseh.
22 Ogni giorno veniva gente a David per soccorrerlo, fino a formare un gran numero come l'esercito di Dio.	22 They helped David and his band, since they were al men of standing and became officers in thearmy.
23 Ecco il numero dei principi D'esercito, che vennero a David mentre era in Ebron per trasferire a lui il regno di Saul, secondo la parola del Signore.	23 Indeed reinforcements reached David day after day, so that his camp grew into a camp of prodigioussize.

26 Dei figli di Levi, quattro mila seicento,	26 Simeonites; seven thousand one hundred champions valiant in war;
27 e Ioiada, principe della stirpe d'Aronne, con tre mila settecento uomini,	27 Levites: four thousand six hundred,
28 e Sadoc, giovane di ottima indole, e la casa di suo padre, con ventidue capi di famiglie.	28 in addition to Jehoiada, in command of the Aaronites, with three thousand seven hundred of these,
29 Dei figli di Beniamino, fratelli di Saul, tre mila, perchè una gran parte di essi seguiva tuttora la casa di Saul.	29 Zadok, a young and valiant champion, and twenty-two commanders of his family;
30 Dei figli d'Efraim, venti mila ottocento uomini fortissimi e di gran nome nelle loro parentele.	30 Benjaminites: three thousand kinsmen of Saul, most of them hitherto in the service of the House ofSaul;
31 Della mezza tribù di Manasse, diciotto mila scelti nominatamente per stabilire David re.	31 Ephraimites: twenty thousand eight hundred valiant champions, men famous in their families;
32 Dei figli d'Issacar vennero degli uomini eruditi, che conoscevano tutti i tempi, per ordinare ciò che dovesse fare Israele; i principi erano duecento, e tutto il resto della tribù seguiva il loro consiglio.	32 of the half-tribe of Manasseh: eighteen thousand men assigned by name to go and proclaim Davidking;
33 Di Zabulon, di quel­li che uscivano alla guerra e stavano nella battaglia muniti di armi guerresche, vennero in aiuto, senza doppiezza di cuore, cinquanta mila.	33 Issacharites, sound judges of the times when Israel should take action, and the way to do it: twohundred chiefs and al their kinsmen under their command;
34 Di Nettali, mille principi con trentasette mila uomini armati di scudo e di lancia.	34 Zebulunites: fifty thousand men fit for service, marshalled for battle, with warlike weapons of everykind, staunch-hearted auxiliaries;
35 Così di Dan, ventotto mila seicento preparati per la battaglia.	35 Naphtalites: a thousand commanders, and with them thirty-seven thousand men armed with shieldand spear;
36 Di Aser quaranta mila che uscivano alla guerra e provocavano a battaglia.	36 Danites: twenty-eight thousand six hundred men marshal ed for battle;

38 Tutti questi uomini di guerra, pronti a combattere, vennero con cuore perfetto a Ebron per costituire David re sopra tutto Israele; ed anche tutto il resto d'Israele era unanime nel voler David come re.	38 from Transjordan: a hundred and twenty thousand men of Reuben, Gad and the half-tribe ofManasseh, with warlike weapons of every kind.
39 Vi si trattennero presso David tre giorni, mangiando e bevendo, chè i loro fratelli avevan preparato tutto,	39 Al these warriors in battle array came to David at Hebron with the firm determination of makingDavid king of al Israel; and the rest of Israel, too, was of one mind in wanting to make David king.
40 e di più quelli che eran vicini, fino ad Issacar, a Zàbulon, a Nettali, portavano sopra asini, cammelli, muli, buoi, del pane da mangiare e farina e fichi secchi, uva passa, vino, olio, buoi, arieti in grande abbondanza, perchè l'allegrezza era in Israele.	40 For three days they stayed there with David, eating and drinking, their fellow-tribesmen having madepreparations for them;
	41 their neighbours too, from as far away as Issachar and Zebulun and Naphtali, came bringing food ondonkeys, camels, mules and oxen-supplies of flour, fig cakes, bunches of raisins, wine, oil, quantities of oxenand sheep -- for there was joy in Israel.
