1 O Eterno tudo criou sem exceção, só o Senhor será considerado justo. Ele é o rei invencível que permanece para sempre.	1 The Eternal is the judge of all things without exception; the LORD alone is just.
2 Quem será capaz de relatar as suas obras?	2 Whom has he made equal to describing his works, and who can probe his mighty deeds?
3 Quem poderá compreender as suas maravilhas?	3 Who can measure his majestic power, or exhaust the tale of his mercies?
4 Quem poderá descrever todo o poder de sua grandeza? Quem empreenderá a explicação de sua misericórdia?	4 One cannot lessen, nor increase, nor penetrate the wonders of the LORD.
5 Nada há a subtrair, nada a acrescentar às maravilhas de Deus; elas são incompreensíveis.	5 When a man ends he is only beginning, and when he stops he is still bewildered.
6 Quando o homem tiver acabado, então estará no começo; e quando cessar a pesquisa, ficará perplexo.	6 What is man, of what worth is he? the good, the evil in him, what are these?
7 Que é o homem, e para que serve? Que mal ou que bem pode ele fazer?	7 The sum of a man's days is great if it reaches a hundred years:
8 A duração da vida humana é quando muito cem anos. No dia da eternidade esses breves anos serão contados como uma gota de água do mar, como um grão de areia.	8 Like a drop of sea water, like a grain of sand, so are these few years among the days of eternity.
9 É por isso que o Senhor é paciente com os homens, e espalha sobre eles a sua misericórdia.	9 That is why the LORD is patient with men and showers upon them his mercy.
10 Ele vê quanto é má a presunção do seu coração, e reconhece que o fim deles é lamentável;	10 He sees and understands that their death is grievous, and so he forgives them all the more.
11 é por isso que ele os trata com toda a doçura, e mostra-lhes o caminho da justiça.	11 Man may be merciful to his fellow man, but the LORD'S mercy reaches all flesh,
12 A compaixão de um homem concerne ao seu próximo, mas a misericórdia divina estende-se sobre todo ser vivo.	12 Reproving, admonishing, teaching, as a shepherd guides his flock;
13 Cheio de compaixão, (Deus) ensina os homens, e os repreende como um pastor o faz com o seu rebanho.	13 Merciful to those who accept his guidance, who are diligent in his precepts.
14 Compadece-se daquele que recebe os ensinamentos de sua misericórdia, e do que se apressa a cumprir os seus preceitos.	14 My son, to your charity add no reproach, nor spoil any gift by harsh words.
15 Meu filho, não mistures a repreensão com o benefício, não acrescentes nunca palavras duras e más às tuas dádivas.	15 Like dew that abates a burning wind, so does a word improve a gift.
16 Porventura o orvalho não refresca o calor ardente? Assim, uma palavra doce vale mais do que um presente.	16 Sometimes the word means more than the gift; both are offered by a kindly man.
17 A doçura das palavras não prevalece sobre a própria dádiva? Mas uma e outra coisa se encontram no homem justo.	17 Only a fool upbraids before giving; a grudging gift wears out the expectant eyes.
18 O insensato censura com aspereza; a dádiva de um indiscreto resseca os olhos.	18 Be informed before speaking; before sickness prepare the cure.
19 Antes de julgar, procura ser justo; antes de falar, aprende.	19 Before you are judged, seek merit for yourself, and at the time of visitation you will have a ransom.
20 Usa o remédio antes de ficares doente. Interroga-te a ti mesmo antes do juízo, e acharás misericórdia diante de Deus.	20 Before you have fallen, humble yourself; when you have sinned, show repentance.
21 Antes da doença, humilha-te, e no tempo da enfermidade mostra o teu proceder.	21 Delay not to forsake sins, neglect it not till you are in distress.
22 Nada te impeça de orar sempre, e não te envergonhes de progredir na justiça até a morte; pois a recompensa de Deus é eterna.	22 Let nothing prevent the prompt payment of your vows; wait not to fulfill them when you are dying.
23 Antes da oração, prepara a tua alma, e não sejas como um homem que tenta a Deus.	23 Before making a vow have the means to fulfill it; be not one who tries the LORD.
24 Lembra-te da ira do último dia, e do tempo em que Deus castigará, desviando o rosto.	24 Think of wrath and the day of death, the time of vengeance when he will hide his face.
25 Lembra-te da pobreza quando estiveres na abundância e das necessidades da indigência no dia da riqueza.	25 Remember the time of hunger in the time of plenty, poverty and want in the day of wealth.
26 Entre a manhã e a tarde muda o tempo, e tudo isto acontece num instante aos olhos de Deus.	26 Between morning and evening the weather changes; before the LORD all things are fleeting.
27 Um homem sábio está sempre alerta; nos dias de tentação, se resguarda do pecado.	27 A wise man is circumspect in all things; when sin is rife he keeps himself from wrongdoing.
28 Todo homem sagaz reconhece a sabedoria, e presta homenagem àquele que a encontrou.	28 Any learned man should make wisdom known, and he who attains to her should declare her praise;
29 Os homens de linguagem sensata procedem também com sabedoria, compreendem a verdade e a justiça, e espalham uma multidão de sentenças e máximas.	29 Those trained in her words must show their wisdom, dispensing sound proverbs like life-giving waters.
30 Não te deixes levar por tuas más inclinações, e refreia os teus apetites.	30 Go not after your lusts, but keep your desires in check.
31 Se satisfizeres a cobiça de tua alma, ela fará de ti a alegria dos teus inimigos.	31 If you satisfy your lustful appetites they will make you the sport of your enemies.
32 Não te comprazas no meio das multidões, mesmo da menores, porque nelas somos constantemente comprometidos.	32 Have no joy in the pleasures of a moment which bring on poverty redoubled;
33 Não te empobreças, pedindo empréstimos para aparentar, quando nada tens na algibeira; isso equivaleria a atentar contra a tua própria vida.	33 Become not a glutton and a winebibber with nothing in your purse.
