1 And David said in his heart, "I shall now perish one day by the hand of Saul; there is nothing better for me than that I should escape to the land of the Philistines; then Saul will despair of seeking me any longer within the borders of Israel, and I shall escape out of his hand."	1 Davide pensò: "Certo un giorno o l'altro perirò per mano di Saul. Non ho miglior via d'uscita che cercare scampo nel paese dei Filistei; Saul rinunzierà a ricercarmi in tutto il territorio d'Israele e sfuggirò dalle sue mani".
2 So David arose and went over, he and the six hundred men who were with him, to Achish the son of Maoch, king of Gath.	2 Così Davide si mosse e si portò, con i seicento uomini che aveva con sé, presso Achis, figlio di Moach, re di Gat.
3 And David dwelt with Achish at Gath, he and his men, every man with his household, and David with his two wives, Ahino-am of Jezreel, and Abigail of Carmel, Nabal's widow.	3 Davide rimase presso Achis in Gat, lui e i suoi uomini, ciascuno con la famiglia; Davide con le due mogli, Achinoàm di Izreèl e Abigail, già moglie di Nabal da Carmel.
4 And when it was told Saul that David had fled to Gath, he sought for him no more.	4 Fu riferito a Saul che Davide si era rifugiato in Gat e non lo cercò più.
5 Then David said to Achish, "If I have found favor in your eyes, let a place be given me in one of the country towns, that I may dwell there; for why should your servant dwell in the royal city with you?"	5 Davide disse ad Achis: "Se ho trovato grazia ai tuoi occhi, mi sia concesso un luogo in una città del tuo territorio dove io possa abitare. Perché dovrà stare il tuo servo presso di te nella tua città reale?".
6 So that day Achish gave him Ziklag; therefore Ziklag has belonged to the kings of Judah to this day.	6 E Achis quello stesso giorno gli diede Ziklàg; per questo Ziklàg è rimasta in possesso di Giuda fino a oggi.
7 And the number of the days that David dwelt in the country of the Philistines was a year and four months.	7 La durata del soggiorno di Davide nel territorio dei Filistei fu di un anno e quattro mesi.
8 Now David and his men went up, and made raids upon the Geshurites, the Girzites, and the Amalekites; for these were the inhabitants of the land from of old, as far as Shur, to the land of Egypt.	8 Davide e i suoi uomini partivano a fare razzie contro i Ghesuriti, i Ghirziti e gli Amaleciti: questi appunto sono gli abitanti di quel territorio che si estende da Telam verso Sur fino al paese d'Egitto.
9 And David smote the land, and left neither man nor woman alive, but took away the sheep, the oxen, the asses, the camels, and the garments, and came back to Achish.	9 Davide batteva quel territorio e non lasciava in vita né uomo né donna; prendeva greggi e armenti, asini e cammelli e vesti, poi tornava indietro e veniva da Achis.
10 When Achish asked, "Against whom have you made a raid today?" David would say, "Against the Negeb of Judah," or "Against the Negeb of the Jerahmeelites," or, "Against the Negeb of the Kenites."	10 Quando Achis chiedeva: "Dove avete fatto scorrerie oggi?", Davide rispondeva: "Contro il Negheb di Giuda, contro il Negheb degli Ierahmeeliti, contro il Negheb dei Keniti".
11 And David saved neither man nor woman alive, to bring tidings to Gath, thinking, "Lest they should tell about us, and say, So David has done.'" Such was his custom all the while he dwelt in the country of the Philistines.	11 Davide non lasciava sopravvivere né uomo né donna da portare a Gat, pensando: "Non vorrei che riferissero contro di noi: Così ha fatto Davide". Tale fu la sua condotta finché dimorò nel territorio dei Filistei.
12 And Achish trusted David, thinking, "He has made himself utterly abhorred by his people Israel; therefore he shall be my servant always."	12 Achis faceva conto su Davide, pensando: "Certo si è attirato l'odio del suo popolo, di Israele e così sarà per sempre mio servo".
