1 Samson went down to Timnah, and at Timnah he saw one of the daughters of the Philistines.	1 Samson descendit donc (ensuite) à Thamnatha, et, ayant vu là une femme d'entre les filles des Philistins,
2 Then he came up, and told his father and mother, "I saw one of the daughters of the Philistines at Timnah; now get her for me as my wife."	2 il (re)monta et l'annonça à son père et à sa mère en disant : J'ai vu à Thamnatha une femme d'entre les filles des Philistins ; je vous prie de me l'obtenir (d'accepter) pour femme.
3 But his father and mother said to him, "Is there not a woman among the daughters of your kinsmen, or among all our people, that you must go to take a wife from the uncircumcised Philistines?" But Samson said to his father, "Get her for me; for she pleases me well."	3 Son père et sa mère lui dirent : N'y a-t-il point de femme parmi les filles de tes frères et parmi tout notre peuple, pour que tu veuilles prendre une femme d'entre les Philistins, qui sont incirconcis ? Samson dit à son père : Donnez-moi (Acceptez) celle-là, parce qu'elle a plu à mes yeux.
4 His father and mother did not know that it was from the LORD; for he was seeking an occasion against the Philistines. At that time the Philistines had dominion over Israel.	4 Or ses parents ne savaient pas que cela venait du Seigneur, et qu'il cherchait une occasion pour perdre les Philistins ; car, en ce temps-là, les Philistins dominaient sur Israël.
5 Then Samson went down with his father and mother to Timnah, and he came to the vineyards of Timnah. And behold, a young lion roared against him;	5 Samson descendit donc avec son père et sa mère à Thamnatha. Et lorsqu'ils furent arrivés aux vignes qui sont près de la ville, il parut tout à coup un jeune lion furieux et rugissant, qui vint au-devant de Samson.
6 and the Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon him, and he tore the lion asunder as one tears a kid; and he had nothing in his hand. But he did not tell his father or his mother what he had done.	6 Mais l'esprit du Seigneur se saisit de Samson, qui déchira le lion comme il aurait fait d'un chevreau, et le mit en pièces sans avoir quoi que ce soit dans la main. Et il ne voulut point le raconter à son père ni à sa mère.
7 Then he went down and talked with the woman; and she pleased Samson well.	7 Il alla ensuite parler à la femme qui lui avait plu.
8 And after a while he returned to take her; and he turned aside to see the carcass of the lion, and behold, there was a swarm of bees in the body of the lion, and honey.	8 Et quelques jours après, tandis qu'il revenait pour épouser cette femme, il se détourna du chemin pour voir le corps du lion ; et il trouva un essaim d'abeilles dans la gueule du lion, et un rayon de miel.
9 He scraped it out into his hands, and went on, eating as he went; and he came to his father and mother, and gave some to them, and they ate. But he did not tell them that he had taken the honey from the carcass of the lion.	9 Il prit ce rayon de miel entre ses mains, et il en mangeait en marchant. Et rejoignant son père et sa mère, il leur en donna une partie, qu'ils mangèrent. Mais il ne voulut point leur découvrir qu'il avait pris le miel dans le corps (la gueule) du lion.
10 And his father went down to the woman, and Samson made a feast there; for so the young men used to do.	10 Son père vint donc chez cette femme ; et il fit un festin pour son fils Samson, selon la coutume que les jeunes gens avaient alors.
11 And when the people saw him, they brought thirty companions to be with him.	11 Les habitants de ce lieu, l'ayant vu, lui donnèrent trente jeunes hommes pour l'accompagner ;
12 And Samson said to them, "Let me now put a riddle to you; if you can tell me what it is, within the seven days of the feast, and find it out, then I will give you thirty linen garments and thirty festal garments;	12 et Samson leur dit : Je vous proposerai une énigme ; et si vous pouvez me l'expliquer pendant les sept jours du festin, je vous donnerai trente robes (vêtements de dessous) et autant de tuniques.
13 but if you cannot tell me what it is, then you shall give me thirty linen garments and thirty festal garments." And they said to him, "Put your riddle, that we may hear it."	13 Mais si vous ne pouvez l'expliquer, vous me donnerez trente robes (vêtements de dessous) et trente tuniques. Ils lui répondirent : Propose ton énigme, afin que nous sachions ce que c'est.
14 And he said to them, "Out of the eater came something to eat. Out of the strong came something sweet." And they could not in three days tell what the riddle was.	14 (Alors) Samson leur dit : De celui qui mange est sortie la nourriture, et du fort est sortie la douceur. Ils ne purent pendant trois jours expliquer cette énigme.
15 On the fourth day they said to Samson's wife, "Entice your husband to tell us what the riddle is, lest we burn you and your father's house with fire. Have you invited us here to impoverish us?"	15 Mais, le septième jour s'approchant, ils dirent à la femme de Samson : Gagne ton mari par tes caresses, et fais qu'il te découvre ce que signifie son énigme. Mais, si tu ne veux pas le faire, nous te brûlerons, toi et toute la maison de ton père. Est-ce que tu nous as conviés à tes noces pour nous dépouiller ?
16 And Samson's wife wept before him, and said, "You only hate me, you do not love me; you have put a riddle to my countrymen, and you have not told me what it is." And he said to her, "Behold, I have not told my father nor my mother, and shall I tell you?"	16 Cette femme pleurait donc auprès de Samson, et se plaignait en disant : Tu me hais et tu ne m'aimes point ; et c'est pour cela que tu ne veux pas m'expliquer l'énigme que tu as proposée aux jeunes gens de mon peuple. Samson lui répondit : Je n'ai pas voulu le dire à mon père ni à ma mère ; comment pourrais-je te le dire à toi ?
17 She wept before him the seven days that their feast lasted; and on the seventh day he told her, because she pressed him hard. Then she told the riddle to her countrymen.	17 Elle pleura ainsi auprès de lui pendant les sept jours du festin. Enfin le septième jour, à force d'être importuné d'elle, il lui découvrit l'énigme ; et elle l'indiqua aussitôt à ses concitoyens,
18 And the men of the city said to him on the seventh day before the sun went down, "What is sweeter than honey? What is stronger than a lion?" And he said to them, "If you had not plowed with my heifer, you would not have found out my riddle."	18 qui vinrent le même jour, avant que le soleil fût couché, dire à Samson : Qu'y a-t-il de plus doux que le miel, et de plus fort que le lion ? Samson leur répondit : Si vous n'aviez pas labouré avec ma génisse, vous n'auriez pas trouvé l'explication de mon énigme.
19 And the Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon him, and he went down to Ashkelon and killed thirty men of the town, and took their spoil and gave the festal garments to those who had told the riddle. In hot anger he went back to his father's house.	19 (C'est pourquoi) En même temps l'Esprit du Seigneur saisit Samson, qui descendit à Ascalon et y tua trente hommes, dont il prit les vêtements, et les donna à ceux qui avaient expliqué son énigme. Et étant dans une très grande colère, il monta à la maison de son père.
20 And Samson's wife was given to his companion, who had been his best man.	20 Cependant la (sa) femme épousa un de ces jeunes hommes et de ses amis qui l'avaient accompagné(e) à ses noces.
