1 John 5

1 Every one who believes that Jesus is the Christ is a child of God, and every one who loves the parent loves the child.	1 Chiunque crede che Gesù è il Cristo, egli è nato da Dio; e chiunque ama chi l'ha generato, ama anche chi è nato da lui.
2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments.	2 Da questo conosciamo d'amare i figli di Dio, se cioè amiamo Dio ed osserviamo i suoi comandamenti.
3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome.	3 Or l'amore di Dio consiste nell'osservare i suoi comandamenti. E i suoi comandamenti non son gravosi;
4 For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that overcomes the world, our faith.	4 perchè tutto ciò che è nato da Dio trionfa del mondo, e la vittoria che trionfa del mondo è la nostra fede.
5 Who is it that overcomes the world but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?	5 E chi è che vince il mondo, se non colui il quale crede che Gesù è Figliolo di Dio?
6 This is he who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ, not with the water only but with the water and the blood.	6 Questi è appunto quel Gesù Cristo che è venuto coll'acqua e col sangue, non coll'acqua soltanto, ma coll'acqua e col sangue. E lo Spirito è quello che attesta che Cristo è verità.
7 And the Spirit is the witness, because the Spirit is the truth.	7 Son infatti tre che rendon testimonianza in Cielo: il Padre, il Verbo e lo Spirito Santo; e questi tre sono uno solo;
8 There are three witnesses, the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and these three agree.	8 e son tre che rendono testimonianza in terra: lo spirito, l'acqua e il sangue, e questi tre sono una sola cosa.
9 If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater; for this is the testimony of God that he has borne witness to his Son.	9 Se accettiamo la testimonianza degli uomini, ha più valore la testimonianza di Dio. Or questa testimonianza, che è la maggiore, Dio l'ha resa in favore del suo Figliolo.
10 He who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. He who does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has borne to his Son.	10 Chi crede nel Figliolo di Dio ha in sè la testimonianza di Dio; chi non crede al Figliolo, fa bugiardo Iddio, perchè non crede alla testimonianza che Dio ha resa al proprio Figliolo.
11 And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.	11 E la testimonianza è questa: Dio ci ha data la vita eterna, e questa vita è nel Figliolo.
12 He who has the Son has life; he who has not the Son of God has not life.	12 Chi ha il Figliolo, ha la vita; chi non ha il Figliolo, non ha la vita.
13 I write this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life.	13 Vi scrivo queste cose, affinchè sappiate che avete la vita eterna, voi che credete nel nome del Figliolo di Dio.
14 And this is the confidence which we have in him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.	14 E noi abbiamo in Dio questa fiducia, di essere esauditi, qualunque cosa chiederemo secondo la sua volontà.
15 And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have obtained the requests made of him.	15 Anzi sappiamo che ci esaudisce; qualunque cosa gli chiediamo, dal fatto che sono ascoltate le richieste che gli facciamo.
16 If any one sees his brother committing what is not a mortal sin, he will ask, and God will give him life for those whose sin is not mortal. There is sin which is mortal; I do not say that one is to pray for that.	16 Se uno vede il suo fratello commettere un peccato che non mena alla morte, preghi, e sarà data la vita a chi ha peccato non mortalmente. Havvi il peccato che mena alla morte; non dico che uno preghi per questo.
17 All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin which is not mortal.	17 Ogni iniquità è peccato, e vi son dei peccati che menano alla morte.
18 We know that any one born of God does not sin, but He who was born of God keeps him, and the evil one does not touch him.	18 Sappiamo che chi è nato da Dio non pecca; ma la divina generazione lo conserva e il maligno non lo tocca.
19 We know that we are of God, and the whole world is in the power of the evil one.	19 Sappiamo d'esser da Dio, e che tutto il mondo è in balìa del maligno.
20 And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, to know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.	20 E sappiamo che il Figlio di Dio è venuto e ci ha dato intelligenza per conoscere il vero Dio, e per essere nel suo vero Figliolo. E' lui il vero Dio e la vita eterna. Figliolini guardatevi dagli idoli. Così sia.
21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols.
