1 Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by giving heed to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons,	1 Ora, lo Spirito apertamente dice che, negli ultimi tempi, taluni apostateranno dalla fede per attaccarsi a spiriti ingannatori e a dottrine diaboliche.
2 through the pretensions of liars whose consciences are seared,	2 Colpa di ipocriti dottori di menzogna, segnati nella loro coscienza da un marchio bruciante,
3 who forbid marriage and enjoin abstinence from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.	3 i quali ordinano di non sposarsi, di astenersi da cibi che Iddio creò perché ne usufruiscano con gratitudine i credenti e quanti sanno distinguere il vero.
4 For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving;	4 Poiché ogni creatura di Dio è buona e nulla è da rigettarsi di ciò che si prende con gratitudine.
5 for then it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer.	5 Viene infatti santificata da una parola di Dio e da una preghiera.
6 If you put these instructions before the brethren, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, nourished on the words of the faith and of the good doctrine which you have followed.	6 Esponendo, queste cose ai fratelli, sarai un buon servitore di Cristo Gesù, nutrito delle parole della fede e della buona dottrina che così diligentemente hai appreso.
7 Have nothing to do with godless and silly myths. Train yourself in godliness;	7 Ripudia quindi i miti triti e decadenti. Allenati piuttosto nella pietà.
8 for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.	8 Difatti la ginnastica del corpo è utile a ben poco; la pietà al contrario è utile a tutto, legata com’è ad una promessa di vita, ora e nel futuro.
9 The saying is sure and worthy of full acceptance.	9 Anche questa è parola sicura e del tutto degna di fede.
10 For to this end we toil and strive, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of those who believe.	10 È per acquistarla che noi ci affatichiamo e lottiamo, avendo messo la nostra speranza nel Dio vivente, salvatore di tutti gli uomini, soprattutto dei credenti.
11 Command and teach these things.	11 Questo proclama e insegna.
12 Let no one despise your youth, but set the believers an example in speech and conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.	12 Che nessuno debba disprezzare la tua giovane età, ma diventa esempio dei fedeli con la parola, la condotta, la carità, la fede, la purezza.
13 Till I come, attend to the public reading of scripture, to preaching, to teaching.	13 Aspettando che io venga, applicati alla lettura, all’esortazione, all’insegnamento.
14 Do not neglect the gift you have, which was given you by prophetic utterance when the council of elders laid their hands upon you.	14 Non trascurare il carisma che è in te, che ti fu dato per virtù di profezia e l’imposizione delle mani del collegio presbiterale.
15 Practice these duties, devote yourself to them, so that all may see your progress.	15 Prendi a cuore queste cose, dedicati ad esse tutto intero, affinché il tuo profitto sia manifesto a tutti.
16 Take heed to yourself and to your teaching; hold to that, for by so doing you will save both yourself and your hearers.	16 Consacrati a te stesso e all’insegnamento, coltiva queste cose: agendo così infatti salverai te stesso e quelli che ti ascoltano.
