Galatians 5

1 For freedom Christ has set us free; stand fast therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.	1 Siate adunque costanti, e non vogliate di nuovo lasciarvi impigliare dal giogo di servitù.
2 Now I, Paul, say to you that if you receive circumcision, Christ will be of no advantage to you.	2 Ecco, che io Paolo vi dico, che se vi circoncidete. Cristo non vi gioverà niente.
3 I testify again to every man who receives circumcision that he is bound to keep the whole law.	3 Imperocché io fo di nuovo sapere a qualunque uomo, che si circoncide, che egli è debitore dell'osservanza di tutta la legge.
4 You are severed from Christ, you who would be justified by the law; you have fallen away from grace.	4 Non siete più nulla riguardo a Cristo voi, che cavate la giustizia dalla legge siete decaduti dalla grazia.
5 For through the Spirit, by faith, we wait for the hope of righteousness.	5 Imperocché noi dallo Spirito per la fede aspettiamo la speranza della giustizia.
6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision is of any avail, but faith working through love.	6 Imperocché in Cristo Gesù nulla importa l'essere circonciso, o l'essere incirconciso: ma la fede operante per la carità.
7 You were running well; who hindered you from obeying the truth?	7 Correvate a maraviglia: chi vi rattenne dall'ubbidire alla verità?
8 This persuasion is not from him who calls you.	8 Questa persuasione non vien da colui, che vi chiama.
9 A little leaven leavens the whole lump.	9 Un po' di lievito altera tutta la massa.
10 I have confidence in the Lord that you will take no other view than mine; and he who is troubling you will bear his judgment, whoever he is.	10 Io confido nel Signore riguardo a voi, che non avrete sentimento diverso: ma chi vi sconturba, chiunque siasi, porterà la condannagione.
11 But if I, brethren, still preach circumcision, why am I still persecuted? In that case the stumbling block of the cross has been removed.	11 Quanto a me, o fratelli, se tuttora predico la circoncisione, e perché tutta via soffro la persecuzione? Dunque è tolto via lo scandalo della croce.
12 I wish those who unsettle you would mutilate themselves!	12 Dio voglia, che siano anche recisi quegli, che vi sconturbano.
13 For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love be servants of one another.	13 Imperocché voi siete stati chiamati, o fratelli, alla libertà; purché della libertà non facciate un'occasione per la carne, ma servite gli uni agli altri per la carità dello Spirito.
14 For the whole law is fulfilled in one word, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."	14 Conciossiachè tutta la legge comprendesi in questa parola: ama il prossimo tuo, come te stesso.
15 But if you bite and devour one another take heed that you are not consumed by one another.	15 Che se vi mordete gli uni, gli altri, e vi mangiate, badate di non consumarvi gli uni gli altri.
16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and do not gratify the desires of the flesh.	16 Or io dico: camminate secondo lo Spirito, e non satisfarete i desiderj della carne.
17 For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh; for these are opposed to each other, to prevent you from doing what you would.	17 Imperocché la carne ha desiderj contrarj allo Spirito: lo Spirito desiderj contrarj alla carne: dappoiché queste cose sono opposte tra loro: onde voi non facciate tutto quel, che volete.
18 But if you are led by the Spirit you are not under the law.	18 Che se voi siete guidati dallo Spirito, non siete sotto la legge.
19 Now the works of the flesh are plain: fornication, impurity, licentiousness,	19 Or manifeste sono le opere della carne, le quali sono l'adulterio, la fornicazione, l'impurità, la lussuria,
20 idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, anger, selfishness, dissension, party spirit,	20 L'idolatria, i venefici, le nimicizie, le contese, l'emulazioni, l'ire, le risse, le discordie, le sette,
21 envy, drunkenness, carousing, and the like. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.	21 Le invidie, gli omicidj, le ubbriachezze, le gozzoviglie, e cose simili a queste, sopra le quali vi prevengo, come vi dissi già, che chi fa tali cose, non conseguirà il regno di Dio.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,	22 Frutto poi dello Spirito si è, la carità, il gaudio, la pace, la pazienza, la benignità, la bontà, la longanimità,
23 gentleness, self-control; against such there is no law.	23 La mansuetudine, la fedeltà, la modestia, la continenza, la castità. Contro queste cose non è la legge.
24 And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.	24 Or quei, che sono di Cristo, hanno crocifissa la loro carne co' vizi, e con le concupiscenze.
25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit.	25 Se viviamo di Spirito, camminiamo in Ispirito.
26 Let us have no self-conceit, no provoking of one another, no envy of one another.	26 Non siamo avidi di gloria vana, provocandoci gli uni gli altri, e portando invidia gli uni agli altri.
