1 Therefore, having this ministry by the mercy of God, we do not lose heart.	1 Betraut also mit diesem Dienst, wie er aus Erbarmen uns zuteil wurde, sind wir nicht mutlos,
2 We have renounced disgraceful, underhanded ways; we refuse to practice cunning or to tamper with God's word, but by the open statement of the truth we would commend ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.	2 sondern sagten uns los von ehrlosen Heimlichkeiten, treten nicht arglistig auf und treiben kein Falschspiel mit dem Gotteswort, suchen vielmehr durch Offenbarung der Wahrheit Zutritt zu jedem Gewissen der Menschen im Angesichte Gottes.
3 And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled only to those who are perishing.	3 Sollte jedoch auch unser Evangelium verhüllt sein, so ist es nur denen verhüllt, die verlorengehen,
4 In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the likeness of God.	4 den Ungläubigen, deren Sinn der Gott dieser Welt geblendet hat, um ihnen nicht aufstrahlen zu lassen das Leuchten der herrlichen Botschaft von Christus, der das Bild Gottes ist.
5 For what we preach is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake.	5 Denn nicht uns selbst verkünden wir, sondern Christus Jesus als den Herrn, uns selbst aber als eure Knechte um Jesu willen.
6 For it is the God who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.	6 Denn der Gott, der befahl, daß aus der Finsternis Licht aufstrahle, ließ auch in unseren Herzen ein Licht erstrahlen, daß es leuchte zur Erkenntnis der Herrlichkeit Gottes auf dem Antlitz [Jesu] Christi.
7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, to show that the transcendent power belongs to God and not to us.	7 Doch haben wir diesen Schatz in irdenen Gefäßen, damit das Übergewicht an Kraft auf seiten Gottes sei und nicht bei uns,
8 We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair;	8 die wir auf alle Weise bedrängt werden, doch nicht erdrückt, hilflos sind, doch nicht verzweifeln,
9 persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed;	9 verfolgt sind, doch nicht verlassen, niedergeworfen, doch nicht verloren.
10 always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies.	10 Allzeit tragen wir das Hinsterben Jesu an unserem Leibe, damit auch das Leben Jesu an unserem Leibe sichtbar werde.
11 For while we live we are always being given up to death for Jesus' sake, so that the life of Jesus may be manifested in our mortal flesh.	11 Denn ständig werden wir in unserem Leben dem Tod anheimgegeben um Jesu willen, damit auch das Leben Jesu sichtbar werde an unserem sterblichen Fleisch.
12 So death is at work in us, but life in you.	12 So ist der Tod an uns tätig, das Leben aber an euch.
13 Since we have the same spirit of faith as he had who wrote, "I believed, and so I spoke," we too believe, and so we speak,	13 Da wir aber denselben Geist des Glaubens haben, wie geschrieben steht: "Ich glaubte, darum redete ich" (Ps 116,10), so glauben auch wir, und daher reden wir auch;
14 knowing that he who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus and bring us with you into his presence.	14 wir wissen ja, daß er, der [den Herrn] Jesus erweckte, auch uns mit Jesus erwecken und zusammen mit euch an seine Seite stellen wird.
15 For it is all for your sake, so that as grace extends to more and more people it may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God.	15 Denn alles geschieht um euretwillen, damit die mit der größeren Zahl sich mehrende Gnade auch die Danksagung anwachsen lasse zur Verherrlichung Gottes.
16 So we do not lose heart. Though our outer nature is wasting away, our inner nature is being renewed every day.	16 Darum verlieren wir nicht den Mut; mag auch unser äußerer Mensch aufgerieben werden, so wird doch der innere von Tag zu Tag neu.
17 For this slight momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison,	17 Denn unsere gegenwärtige geringfügige Drangsal erwirkt uns in überströmender Fülle ein unvergängliches Übergewicht an Herrlichkeit,
18 because we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen; for the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.	18 wenn wir nicht auf das Sichtbare schauen, sondern auf das Unsichtbare; denn das Sichtbare ist von kurzer Dauer, das Unsichtbare jedoch ewig.
