1 After he had ended all his sayings in the hearing of the people he entered Caperna-um.	1 Ed avendo adempiuto tutte le sue parole nelle orecchie del popolo, entrò in Cafarnao.
2 Now a centurion had a slave who was dear to him, who was sick and at the point of death.	2 Ed era ivi uno infermante per morire, il quale era servo di Centurione; ed egli a lui era prezioso.
3 When he heard of Jesus, he sent to him elders of the Jews, asking him to come and heal his slave.	3 E udendo Centurione di Iesù, mandò a lui gli antique de' Iudei, pregandolo ch' egli venisse e sanasse il servo suo.
4 And when they came to Jesus, they besought him earnestly, saying, "He is worthy to have you do this for him,	4 Ma quelli, venuti a Iesù, sollecitamente pregavanlo dicendo, come egli è degno che tu gli concedi questa grazia.
5 for he loves our nation, and he built us our synagogue."	5 Imperò ch' egli ama la nostra gente, ed egli a noi ha edificato la sinagoga.
6 And Jesus went with them. When he was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying to him, "Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy to have you come under my roof;	6 E Iesù andava con loro. E già non essendo lontano dalla casa, mando'li Centurione gli amici, dicendo: Signore, non ti affaticare; imperò ch' io non son degno, ch' entri sotto il tetto mio;
7 therefore I did not presume to come to you. But say the word, and let my servant be healed.	7 per la quale cosa e io non mi ho giudicato degno di venire a te: comanda solamento con la parola, e sarà sanato il mio servo.
8 For I am a man set under authority, with soldiers under me: and I say to one, 'Go,' and he goes; and to another, 'Come,' and he comes; and to my slave, 'Do this,' and he does it."	8 Onde e io, che son uomo constituito sotto la potestate, il quale ho sotto di me cavalieri, dico a questi vattene, ed egli va; e all' altro: vieni, ed egli viene; e al mio servo: fa questo, e lui il fa.
9 When Jesus heard this he marveled at him, and turned and said to the multitude that followed him, "I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such faith."	9 E udito che l' ebbe Iesù, meravigliossi; e voltato alli seguenti popoli, disse: in verità vi dico, ch' io non ho trovata tanta fede in Israel.
10 And when those who had been sent returned to the house, they found the slave well.	10 Onde poscia ritornati, quelli ch' erano mandati, a casa trovorono il servo, ch' era infermo, sanato.
11 Soon afterward he went to a city called Nain, and his disciples and a great crowd went with him.	11 E fatto è ancora, andando Iesù in una città. la quale si chiama Naim; e andavano con lui li suoi discepoli, e molto grande turba.
12 As he drew near to the gate of the city, behold, a man who had died was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow; and a large crowd from the city was with her.	12 E approssimandosi alla porta della città, incontrossi in uno morto che si era portato, unico figliuolo della sua madre; e questa era vedova; e molta gente della città era con lei.
13 And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, "Do not weep."	13 E vedendo Iesù costei, ebbe di lei compassione, e dissegli: non piagnere più.
14 And he came and touched the bier, and the bearers stood still. And he said, "Young man, I say to you, arise."	14 E fecesi inanzi, e toccò il cataletto; e coloro che il portavano stettero fermi; e Iesù disse: fanciullo, a te dico: lèvati su.
15 And the dead man sat up, and began to speak. And he gave him to his mother.	15 E allora il fanciullo, ch' era morto, levossi, e incominciò a parlare. E rendettelo alla madre sua.
16 Fear seized them all; and they glorified God, saying, "A great prophet has arisen among us!" and "God has visited his people!"	16 E tutta la gente ch' era quivi ebbero grande timore; e magnificavano Iddio, e dicevano: grande profeta è costui ch' è apparito infra noi, e veramente Iddio ha visitato il popolo suo.
17 And this report concerning him spread through the whole of Judea and all the surrounding country.	17 E. per tutta la Iudea uscitte questo parlare di lui, e intorno a tutta la regione.
18 The disciples of John told him of all these things.	18 E gli discepoli di Ioanne raccontoronli tutte queste cose.
19 And John, calling to him two of his disciples, sent them to the Lord, saying, "Are you he who is to come, or shall we look for another?"	19 Onde Ioanne chiamò due de' suoi discepoli, e mandolli a Iesù, dicendo: se' tu colui ch' è a venire, ovvero aspettiamo alcuno altro?
20 And when the men had come to him, they said, "John the Baptist has sent us to you, saying, 'Are you he who is to come, or shall we look for another?"	20 Ed essen lo venuti gli uomini a lui, dissero: Ioanne Battista ci ha mandaio a te, dicendo: se' tu quel che sei per venire, ovvero aspettiamo alcuno altro?
21 In that hour he cured many of diseases and plagues and evil spirits, and on many that were blind he bestowed sight.	21 Ed egli in quella medesima ora sanò molti dalle sue infermità e piaghe e da' mali spiriti, e a molti ciechi donò il vedere.
22 And he answered them, "Go and tell John what you have seen and heard: the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, the poor have good news preached to them.	22 E rispondendo, disse a quelli: andate, e renunziate a Ioanne le cose che avete udito [e veduto]: come li ciechi vedono, li zoppi vanno, li leprosi sono mondati, li sordi odono, li morti resùscitano, li poveri prèdicano l'evangelio.
23 And blessed is he who takes no offense at me."	23 É beato qualunque uomo che non sarà scandalizzato in me.
24 When the messengers of John had gone, he began to speak to the crowds concerning John: "What did you go out into the wilderness to behold? A reed shaken by the wind?	24 Ed essendo partiti li nunzii di Ioanne, egli incominciò a dire di Ioanne alle turbe: che siete voi usciti a vedere nel deserto? (siete venuti a vedere) una canna agitata dal vento?
25 What then did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft clothing? Behold, those who are gorgeously appareled and live in luxury are in kings' courts.	25 Ma che siete voi usciti a vedere? forse uno uomo vestito di prezioso vestimento? Ecco che quelli, che sono nella preziosa vesta e nelle delizie, dimorano nelle case de' re.
26 What then did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.	26 Ma che siete voi usciti a vedere? forse uno profeta? Ma dicovi certo, ch' egli è più che profeta.
27 This is he of whom it is written, 'Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, who shall prepare thy way before thee.'	27 Egli è quello del quale è scritto: ecco ch' io mando l'angelo mio dinanzi la faccia tua, il quale prepararà la tua via inanzi a te.
28 I tell you, among those born of women none is greater than John; yet he who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he."	28 Imperò vi dico, che intra li nasciuti di femine nullo è maggiore di Ioanne Battista; ma colui ch' è minore nel regno di Dio, è maggiore di quello.
29 (When they heard this all the people and the tax collectors justified God, having been baptized with the baptism of John;	29 E udendo tutto il popolo, e li pubblicani battezzati col battesimo di Ioanne, giustificorono Iddio.
30 but the Pharisees and the lawyers rejected the purpose of God for themselves, not having been baptized by him.)	30 Ma li Farisei e li dotti della legge, non battezzati da quello, hanno disprezzato il consiglio di Dio in sè medesimi.
31 "To what then shall I compare the men of this generation, and what are they like?	31 Onde disse il Signore: a cui adunque dirò essere simili gli uomini di questa generazione? e a cui sono simili?
32 They are like children sitting in the market place and calling to one another, 'We piped to you, and you did not dance; we wailed, and you did not weep.'	32 Loro sono simili alli fanciulli che siedono nel mercato, e parlanti insieme, e dicenti: abbiamo cantato a voi con le ceremelle, e voi non saltaste; abbiamoci lamentati, e voi non piagneste.
33 For John the Baptist has come eating no bread and drinking no wine; and you say, 'He has a demon.'	33 Ma egli è venuto Ioanne Battista, non mangiando pane nè bevendo vino, e voi dicete che lui ha il demonio.
34 The Son of man has come eating and drinking; and you say, 'Behold, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!'	34 Egli è venuto il Figliuolo dell' uomo, che manduca e beve, e voi dicete: ecco ch' egli è uomo divoratore, e che beve il vino, amico de' pubblicani e peccatori.
35 Yet wisdom is justified by all her children."	35 Ed è giustificata la sapienza da tutti gli suoi figliuoli.
36 One of the Pharisees asked him to eat with him, and he went into the Pharisee's house, and took his place at table.	36 E uno delli Farisei pregava che andasse a mangiare con lui. Ed entrato che fu Iesù nella casa del Fariseo, e' mangiava.
37 And behold, a woman of the city, who was a sinner, when she learned that he was at table in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster flask of ointment,	37 Ed ecco una femina peccatrice, ch' era in quella città, sapendo che Iesù era in casa di quello Fariseo, entrò in quella casa con uno vaso d' alabastro, nel quale era unguento.
38 and standing behind him at his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.	38 E posesi dietro a Iesù, a lato alli piedi suoi; e colle sue lacrime cominciò a bagnare li piedi di Iesù, e con li capelli del capo suo asciugavali, e con la bocca basavali, e con l' unguento gli ungeva.
39 Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw it, he said to himself, "If this man were a prophet, he would have known who and what sort of woman this is who is touching him, for she is a sinner. "	39 E vedendo questo il Fariseo, il qual l' avea invitato, diceva infra sè: se questo fosse profeta, saperebbe chi e quale è questa femina che il tocca; imperò ch' ella è peccatrice.
40 And Jesus answering said to him, "Simon, I have something to say to you." And he answered, "What is it, Teacher?"	40 E Iesù disse a lui: Simone, io t'ho a dire alcuna cosa. E quello disse: maestro, dì'.
41 "A certain creditor had two debtors; one owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty.	41 (Disse Iesù:) due debitori erano tenuti a uno prestatore; l'uno gli doveva dare cinquecento talenti, e l'altro cinquanta.
42 When they could not pay, he forgave them both. Now which of them will love him more?"	42 Ed egli non avendo di che pagare, perdonò a ciascuno il debito. Domandoti: qual di costoro è più tenuto d' amarlo?
43 Simon answered, "The one, I suppose, to whom he forgave more." And he said to him, "You have judged rightly."	43 Rispose Simone, e disse: io credo, colui a cui fu più lasciato. E Iesù disse: rettamente hai giudicato.
44 Then turning toward the woman he said to Simon, "Do you see this woman? I entered your house, you gave me no water for my feet, but she has wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair.	44 E voltossi inverso della femina, e disse a Simone: hai tu veduto questa femina? Io entrai in casa tua, e acqua non mi dèsti alli miei piedi; ma costei colle sue lacrime me gli ha bagnati, e con li suoi capelli me gli ha asciugati.
45 You gave me no kiss, but from the time I came in she has not ceased to kiss my feet.	45 E bacio non mi dèsti; ma costei, poi che entrò qua dentro, non ha cessato di baciare li piedi miei.
46 You did not anoint my head with oil, but she has anointed my feet with ointment.	46 Tu non mi ungesti il capo mio coll' olio; ma costei con unguento ha unto li piedi miei.
47 Therefore I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much; but he who is forgiven little, loves little."	47 E imperò dicoti, che molti peccati gli sono perdonati, imperò che ha molto amato; e colui che meno ama, meno gli è perdonato.
48 And he said to her, "Your sins are forgiven."	48 E poi disse Iesù alla femina: li tuoi peccati ti sono perdonati.
49 Then those who were at table with him began to say among themselves, "Who is this, who even forgives sins?"	49 E alquanti di quelli che mangiavano insieme con lui, incominciorono a dire infra sè medesimi (dicendo): chi è costui, che perdona li peccati?
50 And he said to the woman, "Your faith has saved you; go in peace."	50 E Iesù disse alla femina: la fede tua ti ha fatta salva; va in pace.
