1 After he had ended all his sayings in the hearing of the people he entered Caperna-um.	1 Miután ezeket a beszédeket a nép hallatára mind befejezte, bement Kafarnaumba.
2 Now a centurion had a slave who was dear to him, who was sick and at the point of death.	2 Egy százados egyik szolgája pedig, aki annak nagyon kedves volt, halálos betegen feküdt.
3 When he heard of Jesus, he sent to him elders of the Jews, asking him to come and heal his slave.	3 Mivel hallott Jézusról, elküldte hozzá a zsidók véneit, és kérte őt, hogy jöjjön el és gyógyítsa meg a szolgáját.
4 And when they came to Jesus, they besought him earnestly, saying, "He is worthy to have you do this for him,	4 Azok pedig, amikor odaértek Jézushoz, nagyon könyörögtek: »Méltó arra, hogy megtedd ezt neki,
5 for he loves our nation, and he built us our synagogue."	5 mert szereti nemzetünket, és a zsinagógát is ő építtette nekünk.«
6 And Jesus went with them. When he was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying to him, "Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy to have you come under my roof;	6 Jézus tehát velük ment. 7 therefore I did not presume to come to you. But say the word, and let my servant be healed.	7 Éppen ezért nem is tartottam magamat méltónak, hogy hozzád menjek; hanem csak egy szóval mondd, és meggyógyul a szolgám.
8 For I am a man set under authority, with soldiers under me: and I say to one, 'Go,' and he goes; and to another, 'Come,' and he comes; and to my slave, 'Do this,' and he does it."	8 Mert én is hatalom alatt álló ember vagyok, s katonák vannak alattam; és ha azt mondom az egyiknek: ‘Menj’, elmegy; vagy a másiknak: ‘Gyere’, odajön; és a szolgámnak: ‘Tedd ezt’, megteszi.«
9 When Jesus heard this he marveled at him, and turned and said to the multitude that followed him, "I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such faith."	9 Ennek hallatára Jézus elcsodálkozott. Megfordult, és így szólt az őt követő sokasághoz: »Mondom nektek: még Izraelben sem találtam ekkora hitet!«
10 And when those who had been sent returned to the house, they found the slave well.	10 A küldöttek pedig, amikor hazatértek, egészségben találták a szolgát.
11 Soon afterward he went to a city called Nain, and his disciples and a great crowd went with him.	11 Történt pedig, hogy ezután egy Naim nevű városba ment, és vele mentek tanítványai és nagy népsokaság.
12 As he drew near to the gate of the city, behold, a man who had died was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow; and a large crowd from the city was with her.	12 Mikor a város kapujához közeledett, íme, egy halottat vittek ki, egy özvegyasszony egyetlen fiát, és a város sok lakosa kísérte.
13 And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, "Do not weep."	13 Amikor meglátta őt az Úr, megesett rajta a szíve, és ezt mondta neki: »Ne sírj!«
14 And he came and touched the bier, and the bearers stood still. And he said, "Young man, I say to you, arise."	14 Majd odament, és megérintette a hordágyat. Erre azok, akik vitték, megálltak. Ezt mondta: »Ifjú! Mondom neked: kelj föl!«
15 And the dead man sat up, and began to speak. And he gave him to his mother.	15 A halott pedig felült és beszélni kezdett. Ekkor átadta őt anyjának .
16 Fear seized them all; and they glorified God, saying, "A great prophet has arisen among us!" and "God has visited his people!"	16 Mindnyájukat elfogta a félelem, és így dicsőítették Istent: »Nagy próféta támadt közöttünk!« És: »Isten meglátogatta az ő népét!«.
17 And this report concerning him spread through the whole of Judea and all the surrounding country.	17 Az eset híre elterjedt egész Júdeában, és mindenütt a környéken.
18 The disciples of John told him of all these things.	18 Mindezeket hírül vitték Jánosnak a tanítványai.
19 And John, calling to him two of his disciples, sent them to the Lord, saying, "Are you he who is to come, or shall we look for another?"	19 János erre magához hívott tanítványai közül kettőt, és elküldte őket Jézushoz, hogy kérdezzék meg: »Te vagy-e az Eljövendő, vagy mást várjunk?«
20 And when the men had come to him, they said, "John the Baptist has sent us to you, saying, 'Are you he who is to come, or shall we look for another?"	20 Amikor ezek a férfiak odaérkeztek hozzá, így szóltak: »Keresztelő János küldött minket hozzád, hogy kérdezzünk meg: ‘Te vagy-e az Eljövendő, vagy mást várjunk?’«
21 In that hour he cured many of diseases and plagues and evil spirits, and on many that were blind he bestowed sight.	21 Éppen abban az órában sok embert megszabadított betegségétől, szenvedésétől és a gonosz lelkektől, és sok vaknak visszaadta a szeme világát.
22 And he answered them, "Go and tell John what you have seen and heard: the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, the poor have good news preached to them.	22 Ezt felelte nekik: »Menjetek, vigyétek hírül Jánosnak, amit láttatok és hallottatok: a vakok látnak, a sánták járnak, a leprások megtisztulnak, a süketek hallanak, a halottak föltámadnak, a szegényeknek hirdetik az evangéliumot .
23 And blessed is he who takes no offense at me."	23 Boldog, aki nem botránkozik meg bennem.«
24 When the messengers of John had gone, he began to speak to the crowds concerning John: "What did you go out into the wilderness to behold? A reed shaken by the wind?	24 Miután János követei elmentek, elkezdett Jánosról beszélni a tömegnek: »Miért mentetek ki a pusztába, mit akartatok látni? Széltől lengetett nádat?
25 What then did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft clothing? Behold, those who are gorgeously appareled and live in luxury are in kings' courts.	25 Vagy mit akartatok látni, amikor kimentetek? Finom ruhákba öltözött embert? Íme, akik drága ruhában és kényelemben élnek, a királyi palotákban vannak.
26 What then did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.	26 Vagy mit akartatok látni, amikor kimentetek? Prófétát? Igen, mondom nektek: prófétánál is nagyobbat.
27 This is he of whom it is written, 'Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, who shall prepare thy way before thee.'	27 Ő az, akiről írva van: ‘Íme, elküldöm angyalomat színed előtt, aki elkészíti előtted utadat’ .
28 I tell you, among those born of women none is greater than John; yet he who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he."	28 Mondom nektek: Asszonyok szülöttei között nincs nagyobb Keresztelő Jánosnál; de aki a legkisebb Isten országában, az is nagyobb nála.

31 "To what then shall I compare the men of this generation, and what are they like?	31 Ugyan kihez is hasonlítsam ezt a nemzedéket? Kihez hasonlók ők?

33 For John the Baptist has come eating no bread and drinking no wine; and you say, 'He has a demon.'	33 Mert eljött Keresztelő János, kenyeret nem eszik és bort nem iszik, és azt mondjátok: ‘Ördöge van!’
34 The Son of man has come eating and drinking; and you say, 'Behold, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!'	34 Eljött az Emberfia, eszik és iszik, és azt mondjátok: ‘Íme, a falánk és borissza ember, a vámosok és bűnösök barátja!’
35 Yet wisdom is justified by all her children."	35 De a bölcsességet igazolja annak minden fia.«
36 One of the Pharisees asked him to eat with him, and he went into the Pharisee's house, and took his place at table.	36 Egy farizeus meghívta, hogy egyen nála. Bement a farizeus házába és asztalhoz telepedett.

38 and standing behind him at his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.	38 Megállt hátul a lábainál, sírva fakadt, elkezdte könnyeivel öntözni a lábait, és megtörölte hajával, csókolgatta a lábait, és megkente a kenettel.
39 Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw it, he said to himself, "If this man were a prophet, he would have known who and what sort of woman this is who is touching him, for she is a sinner. "	39 Amikor a farizeus, aki meghívta, látta ezt, így szólt magában: »Ha ez próféta volna, bizonyára tudná, kicsoda és miféle asszony ez, aki őt érinti, vagyis hogy bűnös.«
40 And Jesus answering said to him, "Simon, I have something to say to you." And he answered, "What is it, Teacher?"	40 Jézus ezt válaszolta neki: »Simon! Mondanék neked valamit.« Az így szólt: »Mester, szólj!«
41 "A certain creditor had two debtors; one owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty.	41 »Két adósa volt egy hitelezőnek. Az egyik ötszáz dénárral tartozott, a másik ötvennel.
42 When they could not pay, he forgave them both. Now which of them will love him more?"	42 Nem lévén nekik miből megfizetni, elengedte mind a kettőnek. Melyik fogja őt közülük jobban szeretni?«
43 Simon answered, "The one, I suppose, to whom he forgave more." And he said to him, "You have judged rightly."	43 Simon ezt felelte: »Úgy vélem, az, akinek többet engedett el.« Ő pedig ezt mondta neki: »Helyesen ítéltél.«
44 Then turning toward the woman he said to Simon, "Do you see this woman? I entered your house, you gave me no water for my feet, but she has wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair.	44 Majd az asszony felé fordulva ezt mondta Simonnak: »Látod ezt az asszonyt? Bejöttem a házadba, és nem adtál vizet lábaimra; ez meg könnyeivel öntözte lábaimat, és a hajával törölte meg.
45 You gave me no kiss, but from the time I came in she has not ceased to kiss my feet.	45 Csókot nem adtál nekem; ez meg, amióta bejött, nem szűnt meg csókolgatni lábaimat.
46 You did not anoint my head with oil, but she has anointed my feet with ointment.	46 Olajjal nem kented meg fejemet; ez meg kenettel kente meg a lábaimat.

49 Then those who were at table with him began to say among themselves, "Who is this, who even forgives sins?"	49 Erre az asztaltársak ezt kezdték mondogatni magukban: »Kicsoda ez, hogy még a bűnöket is megbocsátja?«
50 And he said to the woman, "Your faith has saved you; go in peace."	50 Ő pedig így szólt az asszonyhoz: »A hited megmentett téged; menj békével.«
