Luke 7

1 After he had ended all his sayings in the hearing of the people he entered Caperna-um.	1 Après qu'il eut fini de faire entendre au peuple toutes ses paroles, il entra dans Capharnaüm.
2 Now a centurion had a slave who was dear to him, who was sick and at the point of death.	2 Or un centurion avait, malade et sur le point de mourir, un esclave qui lui était cher.
3 When he heard of Jesus, he sent to him elders of the Jews, asking him to come and heal his slave.	3 Ayant entendu parler de Jésus, il envoya vers lui quelques-uns des anciens des Juifs, pour le prier devenir sauver son esclave.
4 And when they came to Jesus, they besought him earnestly, saying, "He is worthy to have you do this for him,	4 Arrivés auprès de Jésus, ils le suppliaient instamment: "Il est digne, disaient-ils, que tu lui accordescela;
5 for he loves our nation, and he built us our synagogue."	5 il aime en effet notre nation, et c'est lui qui nous a bâti la synagogue."
6 And Jesus went with them. When he was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying to him, "Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy to have you come under my roof;	6 Jésus faisait route avec eux, et déjà il n'était plus loin de la maison, quand le centurion envoya des amispour lui dire: "Seigneur, ne te dérange pas davantage, car je ne mérite pas que tu entres sous mon toit;
7 therefore I did not presume to come to you. But say the word, and let my servant be healed.	7 aussi bien ne me suis-je pas jugé digne de venir te trouver. Mais dis un mot et que mon enfant soitguéri.
8 For I am a man set under authority, with soldiers under me: and I say to one, 'Go,' and he goes; and to another, 'Come,' and he comes; and to my slave, 'Do this,' and he does it."	8 Car moi, qui n'ai rang que de subalterne, j'ai sous moi des soldats, et je dis à l'un: Va! et il va, et à unautre: Viens! et il vient, et à mon esclave: Fais ceci! et il le fait."
9 When Jesus heard this he marveled at him, and turned and said to the multitude that followed him, "I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such faith."	9 En entendant ces paroles, Jésus l'admira et, se retournant, il dit à la foule qui le suivait: "Je vous le dis:pas même en Israël je n'ai trouvé une telle foi."
10 And when those who had been sent returned to the house, they found the slave well.	10 Et, de retour à la maison, les envoyés trouvèrent l'esclave en parfaite santé.
11 Soon afterward he went to a city called Nain, and his disciples and a great crowd went with him.	11 Et il advint ensuite qu'il se rendit dans une ville appelée Naïn. Ses disciples et une foule nombreusefaisaient route avec lui.
12 As he drew near to the gate of the city, behold, a man who had died was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow; and a large crowd from the city was with her.	12 Quand il fut près de la porte de la ville, voilà qu'on portait en terre un mort, un fils unique dont la mèreétait veuve; et il y avait avec elle une foule considérable de la ville.
13 And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, "Do not weep."	13 En la voyant, le Seigneur eut pitié d'elle et lui dit: "Ne pleure pas."
14 And he came and touched the bier, and the bearers stood still. And he said, "Young man, I say to you, arise."	14 Puis, s'approchant, il toucha le cercueil, et les porteurs s'arrêtèrent. Et il dit: "Jeune homme, je te le dis,lève-toi."
15 And the dead man sat up, and began to speak. And he gave him to his mother.	15 Et le mort se dressa sur son séant et se mit à parler. Et il le remit à sa mère.
16 Fear seized them all; and they glorified God, saying, "A great prophet has arisen among us!" and "God has visited his people!"	16 Tous furent saisis de crainte, et ils glorifiaient Dieu en disant: "Un grand prophète s'est levé parminous et Dieu a visité son peuple."
17 And this report concerning him spread through the whole of Judea and all the surrounding country.	17 Et ce propos se répandit à son sujet dans la Judée entière et tout le pays d'alentour.
18 The disciples of John told him of all these things.	18 Les disciples de Jean l'informèrent de tout cela. Appelant à lui deux de ses disciples, Jean
19 And John, calling to him two of his disciples, sent them to the Lord, saying, "Are you he who is to come, or shall we look for another?"	19 les envoya dire au Seigneur: "Es-tu celui qui doit venir ou devons-nous en attendre un autre?"
20 And when the men had come to him, they said, "John the Baptist has sent us to you, saying, 'Are you he who is to come, or shall we look for another?"	20 Arrivés auprès de lui, ces hommes dirent: "Jean le Baptiste nous envoie te dire: Es-tu celui qui doitvenir ou devons-nous en attendre un autre?"
21 In that hour he cured many of diseases and plagues and evil spirits, and on many that were blind he bestowed sight.	21 A cette heure-là, il guérit beaucoup de gens affligés de maladies, d'infirmités, d'esprits mauvais, etrendit la vue à beaucoup d'aveugles.
22 And he answered them, "Go and tell John what you have seen and heard: the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, the poor have good news preached to them.	22 Puis il répondit aux envoyés: "Allez rapporter à Jean ce que vous avez vu et entendu: les aveuglesvoient, les boiteux marchent, les lépreux sont purifiés et les sourds entendent, les morts ressuscitent, la BonneNouvelle est annoncée aux pauvres;
23 And blessed is he who takes no offense at me."	23 et heureux celui qui ne trébuchera pas à cause de moi!"
24 When the messengers of John had gone, he began to speak to the crowds concerning John: "What did you go out into the wilderness to behold? A reed shaken by the wind?	24 Quand les envoyés de Jean furent partis, il se mit à dire aux foules au sujet de Jean: "Qu'êtes-vous alléscontempler au désert? Un roseau agité par le vent?
25 What then did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft clothing? Behold, those who are gorgeously appareled and live in luxury are in kings' courts.	25 Alors qu'êtes-vous allés voir? Un homme vêtu d'habits délicats? Mais ceux qui ont des habitsmagnifiques et vivent dans les délices sont dans les palais royaux.
26 What then did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.	26 Alors qu'êtes-vous allés voir? Un prophète? Oui, je vous le dis, et plus qu'un prophète.
27 This is he of whom it is written, 'Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, who shall prepare thy way before thee.'	27 C'est celui dont il est écrit: Voici que j'envoie mon messager en avant de toi pour préparer ta routedevant toi.
28 I tell you, among those born of women none is greater than John; yet he who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he."	28 "Je vous le dis: de plus grand que Jean parmi les enfants des femmes, il n'y en a pas; et cependant leplus petit dans le Royaume de Dieu est plus grand que lui.
29 (When they heard this all the people and the tax collectors justified God, having been baptized with the baptism of John;	29 Tout le peuple qui a écouté, et même les publicains, ont justifié Dieu en se faisant baptiser du baptêmede Jean;
30 but the Pharisees and the lawyers rejected the purpose of God for themselves, not having been baptized by him.)	30 mais les Pharisiens et les légistes ont annulé pour eux le dessein de Dieu en ne se faisant pas baptiserpar lui.
31 "To what then shall I compare the men of this generation, and what are they like?	31 "A qui donc vais-je comparer les hommes de cette génération? A qui ressemblent-ils?
32 They are like children sitting in the market place and calling to one another, 'We piped to you, and you did not dance; we wailed, and you did not weep.'	32 Ils ressemblent à ces gamins qui sont assis sur une place et s'interpellent les uns les autres, en disant:Nous vous avons joué de la flûte, et vous n'avez pas dansé! Nous avons entonné un chant funèbre, et vous n'avezpas pleuré!
33 For John the Baptist has come eating no bread and drinking no wine; and you say, 'He has a demon.'	33 "Jean le Baptiste est venu en effet, ne mangeant pas de pain ni ne buvant de vin, et vous dites: Il estpossédé!
34 The Son of man has come eating and drinking; and you say, 'Behold, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!'	34 Le Fils de l'homme est venu, mangeant et buvant, et vous dites: Voilà un glouton et un ivrogne, un amides publicains et des pécheurs!
35 Yet wisdom is justified by all her children."	35 Et la Sagesse a été justifiée par tous ses enfants."
36 One of the Pharisees asked him to eat with him, and he went into the Pharisee's house, and took his place at table.	36 Un Pharisien l'invita à manger avec lui; il entra dans la maison du Pharisien et se mit à table.
37 And behold, a woman of the city, who was a sinner, when she learned that he was at table in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster flask of ointment,	37 Et voici une femme, qui dans la ville était une pécheresse. Ayant appris qu'il était à table dans lamaison du Pharisien, elle avait apporté un vase de parfum.
38 and standing behind him at his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.	38 Et se plaçant par derrière, à ses pieds, tout en pleurs, elle se mit à lui arroser les pieds de ses larmes; etelle les essuyait avec ses cheveux, les couvrait de baisers, les oignait de parfum.
39 Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw it, he said to himself, "If this man were a prophet, he would have known who and what sort of woman this is who is touching him, for she is a sinner. "	39 A cette vue, le Pharisien qui l'avait convié se dit en lui-même: "Si cet homme était prophète, il sauraitqui est cette femme qui le touche, et ce qu'elle est: une pécheresse!"
40 And Jesus answering said to him, "Simon, I have something to say to you." And he answered, "What is it, Teacher?"	40 Mais, prenant la parole, Jésus lui dit: "Simon, j'ai quelque chose à te dire" - "Parle, maître", répond-il.--
41 "A certain creditor had two debtors; one owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty.	41 "Un créancier avait deux débiteurs; l'un devait 500 deniers, l'autre 50.
42 When they could not pay, he forgave them both. Now which of them will love him more?"	42 Comme ils n'avaient pas de quoi rembourser, il fit grâce à tous deux. Lequel des deux l'en aimera leplus?"
43 Simon answered, "The one, I suppose, to whom he forgave more." And he said to him, "You have judged rightly."	43 Simon répondit: "Celui-là, je pense, auquel il a fait grâce de plus." Il lui dit: "Tu as bien jugé."
44 Then turning toward the woman he said to Simon, "Do you see this woman? I entered your house, you gave me no water for my feet, but she has wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair.	44 Et, se tournant vers la femme: "Tu vois cette femme? Dit-il à Simon. Je suis entré dans ta maison, et tune m'as pas versé d'eau sur les pieds; elle, au contraire, m'a arrosé les pieds de ses larmes et les a essuyés avecses cheveux.
45 You gave me no kiss, but from the time I came in she has not ceased to kiss my feet.	45 Tu ne m'as pas donné de baiser; elle, au contraire, depuis que je suis entré, n'a cessé de me couvrir lespieds de baisers.
46 You did not anoint my head with oil, but she has anointed my feet with ointment.	46 Tu n'as pas répandu d'huile sur ma tête; elle, au contraire, a répandu du parfum sur mes pieds.
47 Therefore I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much; but he who is forgiven little, loves little."	47 A cause de cela, je te le dis, ses péchés, ses nombreux péchés, lui sont remis parce qu'elle a montrébeaucoup d'amour. Mais celui à qui on remet peu montre peu d'amour."
48 And he said to her, "Your sins are forgiven."	48 Puis il dit à la femme: "Tes péchés sont remis."
49 Then those who were at table with him began to say among themselves, "Who is this, who even forgives sins?"	49 Et ceux qui étaient à table avec lui se mirent à dire en eux-mêmes: "Qui est-il celui-là qui va jusqu'àremettre les péchés?"
50 And he said to the woman, "Your faith has saved you; go in peace."	50 Mais il dit à la femme: "Ta foi t'a sauvée; va en paix."
