1 It was now two days before the Passover and the feast of Unleavened Bread. And the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how to arrest him by stealth, and kill him;	1 Or di lì a due giorni era la pasqua, e gli azzimi: e i principi de' sacerdoti, e gli Scribi cercavano il modo di prenderlo per inganno, e ucciderlo.
2 for they said, "Not during the feast, lest there be a tumult of the people."	2 Ma dicevano: Non il dì di festa, perché il popolo non si levi a tumulto.
3 And while he was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at table, a woman came with an alabaster flask of ointment of pure nard, very costly, and she broke the flask and poured it over his head.	3 E trovandosi Gesù a Befania in casa di Simone il lebbroso, ed essendo a mensa: venne una donna, che aveva un alabastro d'unguento di nardo di spigo di gran pregio, e rotto l'alabastro, glielo sparse sulla testa.
4 But there were some who said to themselves indignantly, "Why was the ointment thus wasted?	4 Ed eranvi alcuni, che ciò soffrivano di mal cuore dentro di se, e dicevano: A che fine si è fatto questo scialacquamento d'unguento?
5 For this ointment might have been sold for more than three hundred denarii, and given to the poor." And they reproached her.	5 Imperocché potea questo vendersi più di trecento denari, e darsi a' poveri. E fremevano contro di lei.
6 But Jesus said, "Let her alone; why do you trouble her? She has done a beautiful thing to me.	6 Ma Gesù disse: Lasciatela stare: perché la inquietate voi? Ella ha fatto una buona opera verso di me.
7 For you always have the poor with you, and whenever you will, you can do good to them; but you will not always have me.	7 Imperocché avete sempre con voi de' poveri, e potete far loro del bene, quando a voi piacerà: me poi non mi avete sempre.
8 She has done what she could; she has anointed my body beforehand for burying.	8 Ella ha fatto quel, che poteva: ha anticipato a ungere il mio corpo per la sepoltura.
9 And truly, I say to you, wherever the gospel is preached in the whole world, what she has done will be told in memory of her."	9 In verità vi dico: In qualunque luogo sarà predicato questo Vangelo pel mondo tutto, sarà ancor raccontato quel, che ella ha fatto in sua ricordanza.
10 Then Judas Iscariot, who was one of the twelve, went to the chief priests in order to betray him to them.	10 E Giuda Iscariote uno de' dodici andò dai principi de' sacerdoti per darlo nelle loro mani.
11 And when they heard it they were glad, and promised to give him money. And he sought an opportunity to betray him.	11 E questi, uditolo, si rallegrarono: e promisero di dargli del denaro. E cercava occasione favorevole per tradirlo.
12 And on the first day of Unleavened Bread, when they sacrificed the passover lamb, his disciples said to him, "Where will you have us go and prepare for you to eat the passover?"	12 E il primo gramo degli azzimi, quando immolavan la pasqua, dissero a lui i discepoli: Dove vuoi tu, che andiamo ad apparecchiare pel mangiamento della pasqua?
13 And he sent two of his disciples, and said to them, "Go into the city, and a man carrying a jar of water will meet you; follow him,	13 Ed ei mandò due de' suoi discepoli, e disse loro: Andate in città: e incontrerete un uomo portante una secchia d'acqua; andategli dietro:
14 and wherever he enters, say to the householder, 'The Teacher says, Where is my guest room, where I am to eat the passover with my disciples?'	14 E in qualunque luogo entri dite al padrone della casa: il maestro dice: Dov' è il mio refettorio, ove io mangi la pasqua co' miei discepoli?
15 And he will show you a large upper room furnished and ready; there prepare for us."	15 Ed egli vi farà vedere un cenacolo grande, messo in ordine: e quivi apparecchiate per noi.
16 And the disciples set out and went to the city, and found it as he had told them; and they prepared the passover.	16 E i discepoli andarono, e giunti in città trovarono, conforme avea loro detto, e prepararon la pasqua.
17 And when it was evening he came with the twelve.	17 E fattosi sera, v' andò egli con i dodici.
18 And as they were at table eating, Jesus said, "Truly, I say to you, one of you will betray me, one who is eating with me."	18 E mentre erano a mensa, e mangiavano, disse Gesù: In verità vi dico, che uno di voi, il quale mangia con meco, mi tradirà.
19 They began to be sorrowful, and to say to him one after another, "Is it I?"	19 Ma essi cominciarono a rattristarsi, e a dirgli uno dopo l'altro: Son forse io?
20 He said to them, "It is one of the twelve, one who is dipping bread into the dish with me.	20 Ed egli disse loro: Uno de' dodici, il quale intigne la mano nel piatto con me.
21 For the Son of man goes as it is written of him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! It would have been better for that man if he had not been born."	21 E il Figliuolo dell'uomo se ne va, come è stato scritto di lui: ma guai a quell'uomo, per cui il Figliuolo dell'uomo sarà tradito. Meglio era per un uomo tale il non esser mai nato.
22 And as they were eating, he took bread, and blessed, and broke it, and gave it to them, and said, "Take; this is my body."	22 E mentre quelli mangiavano, Gesù prese del pane: e benedettolo, lo spezzò, e lo dette loro, e disse: Prendete: questo o il mio Corpo.
23 And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, and they all drank of it.	23 E, preso il calice, rese le grazie, lo dette ad essi: e tutti ne bevvero.
24 And he said to them, "This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many.	24 E disse loro: Questo è il Sangue mio del nuovo testamento, il quale sarà sparso per molti.
25 Truly, I say to you, I shall not drink again of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God."	25 In verità vi dico, che non berrò più di questo frutto della vite sino a quel giorno, in cui lo berrò nuovo nel regno di Dio.
26 And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.	26 E, detto l'inno, andarono al monte degli ulivi.
27 And Jesus said to them, "You will all fall away; for it is written, ' I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.'	27 Allora Gesù disse loro: Tutti patirete scandalo a riguardo mio in questa notte; imperocché sta scritto: Percuoterò il pastore, e si dispergeranno le pecorelle.
28 But after I am raised up, I will go before you to Galilee."	28 Ma dopo che io sarò risuscitato, vi anderò innanzi nella Galilea.
29 Peter said to him, "Even though they all fall away, I will not."	29 Pietro però gli disse: Quand'anche io tutti si scandalizzassero, non io però.
30 And Jesus said to him, "Truly, I say to you, this very night, before the cock crows twice, you will deny me three times."	30 E Gesù gli disse: In verità ti dico, che tu oggi in questa notte, prima che il gallo abbia cantato la seconda volta, mi negherai tre volte.
31 But he said vehemently, "If I must die with you, I will not deny you." And they all said the same.	31 Ma quegli soggiugneva di più: Quand' anche bisogni con te morire, non ti negherò. E il simil dicevan pur tutti.
32 And they went to a place which was called Gethsemane; and he said to his disciples, "Sit here, while I pray."	32 E arrivarono in un luogo chiamato Getsemani ed egli disse a' suoi discepoli: Fermatevi qui, sintantoché io faccia orazione.
33 And he took with him Peter and James and John, and began to be greatly distressed and troubled.	33 E prese seco Pietro, e Giacomo, e Giovanni: e cominciò ad atterrirsi, e rattristarsi.
34 And he said to them, "My soul is very sorrowful, even to death; remain here, and watch."	34 E disse loro: l'anima mia è afflitta sino alla morte: trattenetevi qui e vegliate.
35 And going a little farther, he fell on the ground and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him.	35 E avanzatosi al quanto, si prostrò per terra: e pregò, che, se era possibile, si allontanasse da lui quell'ora.
36 And he said, "Abba, Father, all things are possible to thee; remove this cup from me; yet not what I will, but what thou wilt."	36 E disse: Abba, padre, tutto è possibile a te: allontana da me questo calice; ma non quello, che voglio io, ma quel, che vuoi tu.
37 And he came and found them sleeping, and he said to Peter, "Simon, are you asleep? Could you not watch one hour?	37 E tornò da loro, e trovolli addormentati. E disse a Pietro: Simone, tu dormi? Non hai potuto vegliare una sol ora?
38 Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak."	38 Vegliate, ed orate per non cadere in tentazione. Lo spirito è pronto, ma la carne è inferma.
39 And again he went away and prayed, saying the same words.	39 E andò nuovamente ad orare, ripetendo le stesse parole.
40 And again he came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were very heavy; and they did not know what to answer him.	40 E tornato li trovò di nuovo addormentati (imperocché i loro occhi erano aggravati) e non sapevano cosa rispondergli.
41 And he came the third time, and said to them, "Are you still sleeping and taking your rest? It is enough; the hour has come; the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.	41 E ritornò la terza volta, e disse loro: Su via dormite, e riposatevi. Basta così: l'ora è venuta: ecco che il Figliuolo dell'uomo sarà dato nelle mani de' peccatori.
42 Rise, let us be going; see, my betrayer is at hand."	42 Alzatevi, andiamo. Ecco che colui, che mi tradirà, è vicino.
43 And immediately, while he was still speaking, Judas came, one of the twelve, and with him a crowd with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders.	43 E non avea finito di dire, quand' eccoti Giuda Iscariote uno dei dodici, e con esso gran gente armata di spade, e di bastoni, spedita da' principi de' Sacerdoti, e dagli Scribi, e dai seniori.
44 Now the betrayer had given them a sign, saying, "The one I shall kiss is the man; seize him and lead him away under guard."	44 E il traditore avea dato loro il segnale, dicendo: Colui, che io bacerò, è desso; prendetelo, e conducetelo con attenzione.
45 And when he came, he went up to him at once, and said, "Master!" And he kissed him.	45 E venuto che fu, accostossi subito a Gesù, e dissegli: Dio ti salvi, Maestro, e lo baciò.
46 And they laid hands on him and seized him.	46 Ma coloro gettarongli le mani ad dosso, e lo catturarono.
47 But one of those who stood by drew his sword, and struck the slave of the high priest and cut off his ear.	47 E uno degli astanti mise mano alla spada, e ferì un servo del sommo Sacerdote: e gli mozzò un orecchio.
48 And Jesus said to them, "Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs to capture me?	48 E Gesù prese la parola, e disso loro: Quasi io fossi un assassino, siete venuti con ispade, e bastoni per pigliarmi?
49 Day after day I was with you in the temple teaching, and you did not seize me. But let the scriptures be fulfilled."	49 Ogni giorno io stava tra voi nel tempio, insegnando, né mi pigliaste. Ma debbono le scritture adempiersi.
50 And they all forsook him, and fled.	50 Allora i suoi discepoli abbandonatolo, tutti fuggirono.
51 And a young man followed him, with nothing but a linen cloth about his body; and they seized him,	51 E un certo giovinetto seguiva: Gesù coperto di una veste di lino su la, nuda carne: e lo pigliarono.
52 but he left the linen cloth and ran away naked.	52 Ma egli, lasciata andare la veste, scappò ignudo da loro.
53 And they led Jesus to the high priest; and all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes were assembled.	53 E condusser Gesù dal sommo sacerdote: e si adunarono tutti i sacerdoti, e gli Scribi, e i seniori.
54 And Peter had followed him at a distance, right into the courtyard of the high priest; and he was sitting with the guards, and warming himself at the fire.	54 Pietro però lo seguitò da lungi sindentro al cortile del sommo Sacerdote e sedeva al fuoco con i ministri, e scaldavasi.
55 Now the chief priests and the whole council sought testimony against Jesus to put him to death; but they found none.	55 Ma i prìncipi de' sacerdoti, e tutto il consesso cercavano testimonianze contro Gesù per farlo morire, e non le trovavano.
56 For many bore false witness against him, and their witness did not agree.	56 Imperocché molti deponevano il falso contro di lui: ma le loro deposizioni non concordavano.
57 And some stood up and bore false witness against him, saying,	57 E alzatisi alcuni attestavano il falso contro di lui, dicendo:
58 "We heard him say, 'I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and in three days I will build another, not made with hands.'"	58 Noi gli abbiamo sentito dire: Io distruggerò questo tempio manofatto, e in tre giorni fabbricheronne un altro non manofatto.
59 Yet not even so did their testimony agree.	59 Ma la loro testimonianza non era concorde.
60 And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, "Have you no answer to make? What is it that these men testify against you?"	60 E alzatosi in mezzo il sommo sacerdote, interrogò Gesù, dicendo: Non rispondi tu nulla alle cose, che ti sono rinfacciate da costoro?
61 But he was silent and made no answer. Again the high priest asked him, "Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?"	61 Ma egli taceva, e non rispose parola. Di nuovo lo interrogò il sommo Sacerdote, e dissegli: Se' tu il Cristo, il figliuol di Dio benedetto?
62 And Jesus said, "I am; and you will see the Son of man seated at the right hand of Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven."	62 E Gesù gli disse: Io lo sono: e vedrete il Figliuol dell'uomo scendere alla destra della maestà di Dio, e venir sulle nubi del cielo.
63 And the high priest tore his garments, and said, "Why do we still need witnesses?	63 E il sommo Sacerdote, stracciatesi le sue vesti, disse: Che bisogno abbiamo più di testimoni?
64 You have heard his blasphemy. What is your decision?" And they all condemned him as deserving death.	64 Avete udito la bestemmia. Che ve ne pare? E tutti lo condannarono per reo di morte.
65 And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to strike him, saying to him, "Prophesy!" And the guards received him with blows.	65 E cominciarono alcuni a sputargli adosso, e velargli la faccia, e a dargli de' pugni, dicendogli: profetizza: e i ministri lo schiaffeggiavano.
66 And as Peter was below in the courtyard, one of the maids of the high priest came;	66 E trovandosi Pietro da basso nel cortile, venne una delle serve del sommo Sacerdote:
67 and seeing Peter warming himself, she looked at him, and said, "You also were with the Nazarene, Jesus."	67 E veduto Pietro, che si scaldava, e fissato in lui lo sguardo, disse: Anche tu eri con Gesù Nazareno.
68 But he denied it, saying, "I neither know nor understand what you mean." And he went out into the gateway.	68 Ma egli negò, dicendo: Nè lo conosco, né so quello, che tu ti dica. E uscì fuora davanti al cortile, e il gallo cantò.
69 And the maid saw him, and began again to say to the bystanders, "This man is one of them."	69 E di nuovo avendolo veduto una serva, cominciò a dire agli astanti: Costui è di quelli.
70 But again he denied it. And after a little while again the bystanders said to Peter, "Certainly you are one of them; for you are a Galilean."	70 Ma egli negò di bel nuovo. E di li a poco nuovamente gli astanti dissero a Pietro: Tu se' di quelli sicuramente: imperocché sei anche Galileo.
71 But he began to invoke a curse on himself and to swear, "I do not know this man of whom you speak."	71 Ma egli principiò a mandarsi delle imprecazioni, e a giurare: Non conosco quest'uomo, di cui parlate.
72 And immediately the cock crowed a second time. And Peter remembered how Jesus had said to him, "Before the cock crows twice, you will deny me three times." And he broke down and wept.	72 E subito per la seconda volta il gallo cantò. E Pietro si ricordò della parala dettagli da Gesù: Prima che il gallo canti due volte, mi rinnegherai tre volte, e incominciò a piagnere.
