Matthew 8

1 When he came down from the mountain, great crowds followed him;	1 Quand il fut descendu de la montagne, des foules nombreuses se mirent à le suivre.
2 and behold, a leper came to him and knelt before him, saying, "Lord, if you will, you can make me clean."	2 Or voici qu'un lépreux s'approcha et se prosterna devant lui en disant: "Seigneur, si tu le veux, tupeux me purifier."
3 And he stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, "I will; be clean." And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.	3 Il étendit la main et le toucha, en disant: "Je le veux, sois purifié." Et aussitôt sa lèpre fut purifiée.
4 And Jesus said to him, "See that you say nothing to any one; but go, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a proof to the people."	4 Et Jésus lui dit: "Garde-toi d'en parler à personne, mais va te montrer au prêtre et offre le don qu'aprescrit Moïse: ce leur sera une attestation."
5 As he entered Caperna-um, a centurion came forward to him, beseeching him	5 Comme il était entré dans Capharnaüm, un centurion s'approcha de lui en le suppliant:
6 and saying, "Lord, my servant is lying paralyzed at home, in terrible distress."	6 "Seigneur, dit-il, mon enfant gît dans ma maison, atteint de paralysie et souffrant atrocement."
7 And he said to him, "I will come and heal him."	7 Il lui dit: "Je vais aller le guérir" --
8 But the centurion answered him, "Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof; but only say the word, and my servant will be healed.	8 "Seigneur, reprit le centurion, je ne mérite pas que tu entres sous mon toit; mais dis seulement unmot et mon enfant sera guéri.
9 For I am a man under authority, with soldiers under me; and I say to one, 'Go,' and he goes, and to another, 'Come,' and he comes, and to my slave, 'Do this,' and he does it."	9 Car moi, qui ne suis qu'un subalterne, j'ai sous moi des soldats, et je dis à l'un: Va! et il va, et à unautre: Viens! et il vient, et à mon serviteur: Fais ceci! et il le fait."
10 When Jesus heard him, he marveled, and said to those who followed him, "Truly, I say to you, not even in Israel have I found such faith.	10 Entendant cela, Jésus fut dans l'admiration et dit à ceux qui le suivaient: "En vérité, je vous le dis,chez personne je n'ai trouvé une telle foi en Israël.
11 I tell you, many will come from east and west and sit at table with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven,	11 Eh bien! je vous dis que beaucoup viendront du levant et du couchant prendre place au festinavec Abraham, Isaac et Jacob dans le Royaume des Cieux,
12 while the sons of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer darkness; there men will weep and gnash their teeth."	12 tandis que les fils du Royaume seront jetés dans les ténèbres extérieures: là seront les pleurs et lesgrincements de dents."
13 And to the centurion Jesus said, "Go; be it done for you as you have believed." And the servant was healed at that very moment.	13 Puis il dit au centurion: "Va! Qu'il t'advienne selon ta foi!" Et l'enfant fut guéri sur l'heure.
14 And when Jesus entered Peter's house, he saw his mother-in-law lying sick with a fever;	14 Etant venu dans la maison de Pierre, Jésus vit sa belle-mère alitée, avec la fièvre.
15 he touched her hand, and the fever left her, and she rose and served him.	15 Il lui toucha la main, la fièvre la quitta, elle se leva et elle le servait.
16 That evening they brought to him many who were possessed with demons; and he cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick.	16 Le soir venu, on lui présenta beaucoup de démoniaques; il chassa les esprits d'un mot, et il guérittous les malades,
17 This was to fulfil what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah, "He took our infirmities and bore our diseases."	17 afin que s'accomplît l'oracle d'Isaïe le prophète: Il a pris nos infirmités et s'est chargé de nosmaladies.
18 Now when Jesus saw great crowds around him, he gave orders to go over to the other side.	18 Se voyant entouré de foules nombreuses, Jésus donna l'ordre de s'en aller sur l'autre rive.
19 And a scribe came up and said to him, "Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go."	19 Et un scribe s'approchant lui dit: "Maître, je te suivrai où que tu ailles."
20 And Jesus said to him, "Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man has nowhere to lay his head."	20 Jésus lui dit: "Les renards ont des tanières et les oiseaux du ciel ont des nids; le Fils de l'homme,lui, n'a pas où reposer la tête."
21 Another of the disciples said to him, "Lord, let me first go and bury my father."	21 Un autre des disciples lui dit: "Seigneur, permets-moi de m'en aller d'abord enterrer mon père."
22 But Jesus said to him, "Follow me, and leave the dead to bury their own dead."	22 Mais Jésus lui dit: "Suis-moi, et laisse les morts enterrer leurs morts."
23 And when he got into the boat, his disciples followed him.	23 Puis il monta dans la barque, suivi de ses disciples.
24 And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but he was asleep.	24 Et voici qu'une grande agitation se fit dans la mer, au point que la barque était couverte par lesvagues. Lui cependant dormait.
25 And they went and woke him, saying, "Save, Lord; we are perishing."	25 S'étant approchés, ils le réveillèrent en disant: "Au secours, Seigneur, nous périssons!"
26 And he said to them, "Why are you afraid, O men of little faith?" Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.	26 Il leur dit: "Pourquoi avez-vous peur, gens de peu de foi?" Alors, s'étant levé, il menaça les ventset la mer, et il se fit un grand calme.
27 And the men marveled, saying, "What sort of man is this, that even winds and sea obey him?"	27 Saisis d'étonnement, les hommes se dirent alors: "Quel est celui-ci, que même les vents et la merlui obéissent?"
28 And when he came to the other side, to the country of the Gadarenes, two demoniacs met him, coming out of the tombs, so fierce that no one could pass that way.	28 Quand il fut arrivé sur l'autre rive, au pays des Gadaréniens, deux démoniaques, sortant destombeaux, vinrent à sa rencontre, des êtres si sauvages que nul ne se sentait de force à passer par ce chemin.
29 And behold, they cried out, "What have you to do with us, O Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the time?"	29 Les voilà qui se mirent à crier: "Que nous veux-tu, Fils de Dieu? Es-tu venu ici pour noustourmenter avant le temps?"
30 Now a herd of many swine was feeding at some distance from them.	30 Or il y avait, à une certaine distance, un gros troupeau de porcs en train de paître.
31 And the demons begged him, "If you cast us out, send us away into the herd of swine."	31 Et les démons suppliaient Jésus: "Si tu nous expulses, envoie-nous dans ce troupeau de porcs" --
32 And he said to them, "Go." So they came out and went into the swine; and behold, the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea, and perished in the waters.	32 "Allez", leur dit-il. Sortant alors, ils s'en allèrent dans les porcs, et voilà que tout le troupeau seprécipita du haut de l'escarpement dans la mer et périt dans les eaux.
33 The herdsmen fled, and going into the city they told everything, and what had happened to the demoniacs.	33 Les gardiens prirent la fuite et s'en furent à la ville tout rapporter, avec l'affaire des démoniaques.
34 And behold, all the city came out to meet Jesus; and when they saw him, they begged him to leave their neighborhood.	34 Et voilà que toute la ville sortit au-devant de Jésus; et, dès qu'ils le virent, ils le prièrent de quitterleur territoire.
