1 When he came down from the mountain, great crowds followed him;	1 - Quando Gesù scese dal monte molte turbe lo seguivano.
2 and behold, a leper came to him and knelt before him, saying, "Lord, if you will, you can make me clean."	2 Gli si accostò un lebbroso, che, prostratosi davanti a lui, gli disse: «Signore, se vuoi, puoi mondarmi».
3 And he stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, "I will; be clean." And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.	3 Gesù, stesa la mano, lo toccò, dicendo: «Lo voglio, sii mondato». E sull'istante fu mondato dalla lebbra.
4 And Jesus said to him, "See that you say nothing to any one; but go, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a proof to the people."	4 Gesù gli raccomandò: «Bada di non dirlo a nessuno, ma va', fatti veder dal sacerdote e offri il dono prescritto da Mosè e ciò serva loro di testimonianza».
5 As he entered Caperna-um, a centurion came forward to him, beseeching him	5 Entrato in Cafarnao, gli si accostò un centurione,
6 and saying, "Lord, my servant is lying paralyzed at home, in terrible distress."	6 che gli fece questa preghiera: «Signore, il mio servo giace in casa paralitico e soffre assai».
7 And he said to him, "I will come and heal him."	7 Gli rispose Gesù: «Verrò a guarirlo».
8 But the centurion answered him, "Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof; but only say the word, and my servant will be healed.	8 «Signore», riprese il centurione «io non son degno che tu entri sotto il mio tetto, ma di' soltanto una parola e il mio servo sarà guarito.
9 For I am a man under authority, with soldiers under me; and I say to one, 'Go,' and he goes, and to another, 'Come,' and he comes, and to my slave, 'Do this,' and he does it."	9 Perchè anch'io sono uomo sottoposto ad altri ed ho soldati ai miei ordini e dico ad uno: - Va'! - ed egli va; e ad un altro: - Vieni! - ed egli viene; e al mio servo: - Fai questo! - ed egli lo fa».
10 When Jesus heard him, he marveled, and said to those who followed him, "Truly, I say to you, not even in Israel have I found such faith.	10 Gesù, udite queste parole, restò ammirato e rivolto alla folla che lo seguiva esclamò: «In verità vi dico di non aver mai trovato tanta fede in Israele!
11 I tell you, many will come from east and west and sit at table with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven,	11 E vi dico ancora che molti verranno dall'Oriente e dall'Occidente e sederanno a tavola con Abramo, Isacco e Giacobbe nel regno dei cieli,
12 while the sons of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer darkness; there men will weep and gnash their teeth."	12 mentre i figli del regno saranno gettati nelle tenebre eterne, dove vi sarà pianto e stridor di denti».
13 And to the centurion Jesus said, "Go; be it done for you as you have believed." And the servant was healed at that very moment.	13 E Gesù soggiunse al centurione: «Va', e ti sia fatto secondo la tua fede». E in quel momento il servo fu guarito.
14 And when Jesus entered Peter's house, he saw his mother-in-law lying sick with a fever;	14 Entrato poi Gesù nella casa di Pietro, ne trovò la suocera a letto con febbre.
15 he touched her hand, and the fever left her, and she rose and served him.	15 Le toccò la mano e la febbre la lasciò, cosicchè ella s'alzò e si pose a servirlo.
16 That evening they brought to him many who were possessed with demons; and he cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick.	16 Sul far della sera, gli presentarono parecchi indemoniati, dai quali con una parola scacciò via gli spiriti; e guarì tutti i malati,
17 This was to fulfil what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah, "He took our infirmities and bore our diseases."	17 per adempire quanto era stato detto dal profeta Isaia: «Egli ha preso le nostre infermità e ha portato i nostri malanni».
18 Now when Jesus saw great crowds around him, he gave orders to go over to the other side.	18 Vedendo Gesù una gran turba attorno a sè, diede ordine di passare all'altra riva.
19 And a scribe came up and said to him, "Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go."	19 Allora uno scriba gli si accostò per dirgli: «Maestro, io ti seguirò dovunque tu vada».
20 And Jesus said to him, "Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man has nowhere to lay his head."	20 Gli rispose Gesù: «Le volpi han delle tane e gli uccelli dell'aria hanno dei nidi, ma il Figliuol dell'uomo non ha dove posare il capo».
21 Another of the disciples said to him, "Lord, let me first go and bury my father."	21 Un altro, che era dei discepoli, gli disse: «Signore, permettimi di andar prima a seppellir mio padre».
22 But Jesus said to him, "Follow me, and leave the dead to bury their own dead."	22 Ma Gesù gli rispose: «Seguimi, e lascia che i morti seppelliscano i loro morti».
23 And when he got into the boat, his disciples followed him.	23 Entrato poi nella barca, lo seguirono i suoi discepoli.
24 And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but he was asleep.	24 Ed ecco sollevarsi una tempesta tanto grande che la barca era coperta dalle onde; e siccome egli dormiva,
25 And they went and woke him, saying, "Save, Lord; we are perishing."	25 i discepoli gli si accostarono e lo svegliarono, gridando: «Salvaci, o Signore, che siam perduti!».
26 And he said to them, "Why are you afraid, O men of little faith?" Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.	26 Gesù disse loro: «Perchè temete, uomini di poca fede?». E, alzatosi in piedi, comandò ai vènti e al mare, e subito si fece una gran calma.
27 And the men marveled, saying, "What sort of man is this, that even winds and sea obey him?"	27 Del che meravigliati, tutti dicevano: «Chi è costui, al quale ubbidiscono anche i vènti e il mare?».
28 And when he came to the other side, to the country of the Gadarenes, two demoniacs met him, coming out of the tombs, so fierce that no one could pass that way.	28 Sbarcato all'altra riva, nel paese dei Geraseni, due indemoniati, usciti dai sepolcri, gli vennero incontro. Essi erano tanto furiosi che per quella strada nessuno osava passare.
29 And behold, they cried out, "What have you to do with us, O Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the time?"	29 Si misero a gridare: «Che c'è tra noi e te, o Gesù, figlio di Dio? Sei venuto qui prima del tempo a tormentarci?».
30 Now a herd of many swine was feeding at some distance from them.	30 Poco lungi stava a pascolare un grosso branco di porci
31 And the demons begged him, "If you cast us out, send us away into the herd of swine."	31 e i demoni pregaron Gesù: «Se ci discacci, mandaci in quel branco di porci».
32 And he said to them, "Go." So they came out and went into the swine; and behold, the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea, and perished in the waters.	32 Ed egli comandò a loro: «Andate». Essi, usciti dal corpo degli indemoniati, entrarono nei porci e tutto il branco si gettò con grande impeto nel mare e perirono nelle acque.
33 The herdsmen fled, and going into the city they told everything, and what had happened to the demoniacs.	33 I pastori fuggirono e giunti in città, raccontarono tutte queste cose e il fatto degl'indemoniati.
34 And behold, all the city came out to meet Jesus; and when they saw him, they begged him to leave their neighborhood.	34 E tosto l'intera città uscì incontro a Gesù e, vistolo, lo pregarono di allontanarsi dal loro territorio.
