1 And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James and John his brother, and led them up a high mountain apart.	1 Sei giorni dopo, Gesù prese con sè Pietro, Giacomo e Giovanni suo fratello, li condusse sopra un alto monte, in disparte.
2 And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his garments became white as light.	2 E si trasfigurò in loro presenza, e il suo viso risplendè come il sole, e le sue vesti, divennero candide come la neve.
3 And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with him.	3 Ed ecco, loro apparvero Mosè ed Elia a conversare con lui.
4 And Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, it is well that we are here; if you wish, I will make three booths here, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah."	4 E Pietro prese a dire a Gesù: Signore, è un gran piacere per noi lo star qui; se vuoi, ci facciamo tre tende, una per te, una per Mosè, ed una per Elia.
5 He was still speaking, when lo, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him."	5 Mentre egli ancora parlava, ecco una lucida nube avvolgerli: ed ecco dalla nuvola una voce che diceva: Questo è il mio Figlio diletto, nel quale mi sono compiaciuto, ascoltatelo.
6 When the disciples heard this, they fell on their faces, and were filled with awe.	6 Udito ciò, i discepoli caddero bocconi per terra ed ebbero gran timore.
7 But Jesus came and touched them, saying, "Rise, and have no fear."	7 Ma Gesù, accostatosi a loro, li toccò e disse: Levatevi, non temete.
8 And when they lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only.	8 Ed essi alzati gli occhi, non videro altri che Gesù.
9 And as they were coming down the mountain, Jesus commanded them, "Tell no one the vision, until the Son of man is raised from the dead."	9 E mentre scendevano dal monte, Gesù, comandando, disse loro: Non parlate ad alcuno di questa visione, finché il Figlio dell'uomo non sia risuscitato dai morti.
10 And the disciples asked him, "Then why do the scribes say that first Elijah must come?"	10 E i discepoli gli domandarono: Perchè dunque dicono gli Scribi che prima ha da venire Elia?
11 He replied, "Elijah does come, and he is to restore all things;	11 E Gesù rispose loro: Certo ha da venire Elia, per riordinare ogni cosa;
12 but I tell you that Elijah has already come, and they did not know him, but did to him whatever they pleased. So also the Son of man will suffer at their hands."	12 ma vi assicuro che Elia è già venuto e non l'han voluto riconoscere, ma gli han fatto tutto ciò che han voluto. Nello stesso modo faran soffrire anche il Figlio dell'uomo.
13 Then the disciples understood that he was speaking to them of John the Baptist.	13 Allora i discepoli capirono che aveva parlato di Giovanni Battista.
14 And when they came to the crowd, a man came up to him and kneeling before him said,	14 E giunti alla folla si accostò un uomo, il quale, prostratosi in ginocchio davanti a lui, disse: Signore, abbi pietà di mio figlio, che è lunatico e soffre molto, e spesso cade nel fuoco e spesso nell'acqua.
15 "Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is an epileptic and he suffers terribly; for often he falls into the fire, and often into the water.	15 L'ho presentato ai tuoi discepoli, e non l'hanno potuto guarire.
16 And I brought him to your disciples, and they could not heal him."	16 Gesù, in risposta, disse: O generazione incredula e perversa, fino a quando starò con voi? Fino a quando vi sopporterò? Portatelo qua da me.
17 And Jesus answered, "O faithless and perverse generation, how long am I to be with you? How long am I to bear with you? Bring him here to me."	17 E Gesù sgridò il demonio, e questo uscì dal fanciullo, il quale da quel momento fu risanato.
18 And Jesus rebuked him, and the demon came out of him, and the boy was cured instantly.	18 Allora i discepoli, accostatisi a Gesù, in disparte, gli dissero: Perchè noi non l'abbiamo potuto scacciare?
19 Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, "Why could we not cast it out?"	19 E Gesù rispose loro: Per la vostra poca fede, chè in verità vi dico: se avrete fede quanto un granello di senapa, direte a questo monte: Passa di qui a là, passerà e niente vi sarà impossibile.
20 He said to them, "Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you."	20 Ma questa razza di demoni non si scaccia che per mezzo dell'orazione e del digiuno.
21 .	21 E mentre si trattenevano nella Galilea, Gesù disse loro: Il Figlio dell'uomo sta per essere dato nelle mani degli uomini.
22 As they were gathering in Galilee, Jesus said to them, "The Son of man is to be delivered into the hands of men,	22 e l'uccideranno, ma il terzo giorno risorgerà. Ed essi ne furono gran demente contristati.
23 and they will kill him, and he will be raised on the third day." And they were greatly distressed.	23 Or giunti essi a Cafarnao, sì accostarono a Pietro quelli che riscotevano le due dramme e gli dissero: Il vostro Maestro non paga le due dramme?
24 When they came to Caperna-um, the collectors of the half-shekel tax went up to Peter and said, "Does not your teacher pay the tax?"	24 Ed egli rispose: Sì, certamente. Ed entrato in casa, Gesù lo prevenne, dicendo: Che te ne pare, Simone? I re della terra da chi ricevono il tributo o il censo? Dai proprii figli o dagli estranei?
25 He said, "Yes." And when he came home, Jesus spoke to him first, saying, "What do you think, Simon? From whom do kings of the earth take toll or tribute? From their sons or from others?"	25 Dagli estranei, rispose Pietro. E Gesù a lui: Dunque i figli ne sono esenti.
26 And when he said, "From others," Jesus said to him, "Then the sons are free.	26 Ma per non scandalizzarli, va' al mare, getta l'amo, e prendi il primo pesce che verrà su: aprigli la bocca e vi troverai uno statere: prendilo e paga per me e per te.
27 However, not to give offense to them, go to the sea and cast a hook, and take the first fish that comes up, and when you open its mouth you will find a shekel; take that and give it to them for me and for yourself."
