Zephaniah 3

1 Woe to her that is rebellious and defiled, the oppressing city!	1 Guai! è ribelle e abietta la città violenta!
2 She listens to no voice, she accepts no correction. She does not trust in the LORD, she does not draw near to her God.	2 Non ha ascoltato l’appello, non ha accolto l’ammonizione, non ha posto la fiducia in Jahvè, non si è accostata al suo Dio.
3 Her officials within her are roaring lions; her judges are evening wolves that leave nothing till the morning.	3 I suoi capi, dentro di lei sono leoni ruggenti; i suoi giudici sono lupi della sera, che non hanno rosicchiato al mattino.
4 Her prophets are wanton, faithless men; her priests profane what is sacred, they do violence to the law.	4 I suoi profeti sono fanfaroni, uomini malfidi; i suoi sacerdoti profanano il santuario, fanno violenza alla legge.
5 The LORD within her is righteous, he does no wrong; every morning he shows forth his justice, each dawn he does not fail; but the unjust knows no shame.	5 Jahvè è giusto in mezzo a lei, non commette ingiustizia; al mattino dà la sua decisione, che alla luce non vien meno. E l’iniquo non conosce vergogna.
6 "I have cut off nations; their battlements are in ruins; I have laid waste their streets so that none walks in them; their cities have been made desolate, without a man, without an inhabitant.	6 Ho sterminato popoli; le loro terre sono distrutte; ho devastato le loro strade così che nessuno più vi passa; sono mandate in rovina le loro città, tanto che sono prive di abitanti.
7 I said, 'Surely she will fear me, she will accept correction; she will not lose sight of all that I have enjoined upon her.' But all the more they were eager to make all their deeds corrupt."	7 lo pensai: «Eppure tu mi temerai, accoglierai l’ammonizione. Non potrà dileguarsi dai suoi occhi tutto ciò di cui l’ho richiesta, Invece con rinnovato impegno sono corrotti in tutte le loro azioni».
8 "Therefore wait for me," says the LORD, "for the day when I arise as a witness. For my decision is to gather nations, to assemble kingdoms, to pour out upon them my indignation, all the heat of my anger; for in the fire of my jealous wrath all the earth shall be consumed.	8 Ciò nonostante, aspettami — oracolo di Jahvè —per il giorno in cui mi leverò accusatore poiché è mia decisione di adunare le genti di raccogliere i regni, per riversare su di loro il mio sdegno, tutta la mia ira ardente. Sì, sarà divorata nel fuoco del mio risentimento tutta la terra.
9 "Yea, at that time I will change the speech of the peoples to a pure speech, that all of them may call on the name of the LORD and serve him with one accord.	9 Poiché allora accorderò al popolo un labbro puro, affinché tutti invochino il nome di Jahvè e lo servano spalla a spalla.
10 From beyond the rivers of Ethiopia my suppliants, the daughter of my dispersed ones, shall bring my offering.	10 Di là dai fiumi di Chush ci sono i miei supplicanti, nel nord mi saranno presentate offerte.
11 "On that day you shall not be put to shame because of the deeds by which you have rebelled against me; for then I will remove from your midst your proudly exultant ones, and you shall no longer be haughty in my holy mountain.	11 In quel giorno: non ti vergognerai di nessuna delle azioni con cui ti sei ribellata contro di me, poiché allora allontanerò da te i tuoi superbi millantatori e non avrai più sentimenti d’orgoglio sul mio monte santo.
12 For I will leave in the midst of you a people humble and lowly. They shall seek refuge in the name of the LORD,	12 Lascerò sopravvivere in mezzo a te un popolo oppresso e povero, che cercherà rifugio nel nome di Jahvè:
13 those who are left in Israel; they shall do no wrong and utter no lies, nor shall there be found in their mouth a deceitful tongue. For they shall pasture and lie down, and none shall make them afraid."	13 il resto di Israele. Non commetteranno più iniquità né proferiranno menzogna né si troverà nella loro bocca una lingua perfida. Invece essi potranno pascolare e accovacciarsi, senza che alcuno li disturbi.
14 Sing aloud, O daughter of Zion; shout, O Israel! Rejoice and exult with all your heart, O daughter of Jerusalem!	14 Giubila, figlia di Sion, esulta, Israele; fa’ grida di gioia, tripudia di tutto cuore, figlia di Gerusalemme!
15 The LORD has taken away the judgments against you, he has cast out your enemies. The King of Israel, the LORD, is in your midst; you shall fear evil no more.	15 Jahvè ha abolito le sentenze che ti toccavano ha fatto sgomberare il tuo nemico: il re di Israele, Jahvè, è in mezzo a te: non temerai più nessun male.
16 On that day it shall be said to Jerusalem: "Do not fear, O Zion; let not your hands grow weak.	16 In quel giorno si dirà a Gerusalemme: «Non temere, Sion, non lasciarti prendere dall’abbattimento.
17 The LORD, your God, is in your midst, a warrior who gives victory; he will rejoice over you with gladness, he will renew you in his love; he will exult over you with loud singing	17 Jahvè tuo Dio in mezzo a te è un prode che aiuta; gioisce di te nel gaudio, ti rinnova nel suo amore, esulta su di te con giubilo,
18 as on a day of festival. "I will remove disaster from you, so that you will not bear reproach for it.	18 come in giorno di festa». Io ritiro da te la sventura, così che tu non abbia più a portarne l’obbrobrio.
19 Behold, at that time I will deal with all your oppressors. And I will save the lame and gather the outcast, and I will change their shame into praise and renown in all the earth.	19 Ecco avranno da fare con me tutti i tuoi oppressori in quel tempo; quindi soccorrerò colui che zoppica e raccoglierò il disperso, li metterò in gloria e rinomanza su tutta la terra, dove furono in ignominia.
20 At that time I will bring you home, at the time when I gather you together; yea, I will make you renowned and praised among all the peoples of the earth, when I restore your fortunes before your eyes," says the LORD.	20 In quel tempo io vi ricondurrò: nel tempo in cui vi raccoglierò; poiché vi farò oggetto di rinomanza e di gloria fra tutti i popoli della terra, quando volgerò la vostra sorte davanti ai vostri occhi, dice Jahvè!
