Zephaniah 2

1 Come together and hold assembly, O shameless nation,	1 Raccoglietevi, radunatevi, gente spudorata,
2 before you are driven away like the drifting chaff, before there comes upon you the fierce anger of the LORD, before there comes upon you the day of the wrath of the LORD.	2 prima che siate dispersi lontano come pula che passa in un giorno, prima che venga su di voi l'ardore dell'ira del Signore, prima che venga su di voi il giorno dell'ira del Signore!
3 Seek the LORD, all you humble of the land, who do his commands; seek righteousness, seek humility; perhaps you may be hidden on the day of the wrath of the LORD.	3 Cercate il Signore tutti voi umili del paese, che praticate i suoi decreti! Cercate la giustizia, cercate l'umiltà! Forse sarete al riparo nel giorno dell'ira del Signore!
4 For Gaza shall be deserted, and Ashkelon shall become a desolation; Ashdod's people shall be driven out at noon, and Ekron shall be uprooted.	4 Sì, gaza sarà un luogo abbandonato e ascalòna una landa deserta; Asdòd la cacceranno via sul mezzogiorno, Accaron sarà sradicata.
5 Woe to you inhabitants of the seacoast, you nation of the Cherethites! The word of the LORD is against you, O Canaan, land of the Philistines; and I will destroy you till no inhabitant is left.	5 Guai a voi, abitanti della zona marittima, nazione dei Cretei! Ecco la parola del Signore contro di voi: "Io ti umilierò, terra dei Filistei, ti priverò di ogni abitante!
6 And you, O seacoast, shall be pastures, meadows for shepherds and folds for flocks.	6 Sarai luogo di pascoli per i pastori, un luogo di recinti per il gregge!".
7 The seacoast shall become the possession of the remnant of the house of Judah, on which they shall pasture, and in the houses of Ashkelon they shall lie down at evening. For the LORD their God will be mindful of them and restore their fortunes.	7 La zona marittima apparterrà al resto della casa di Giuda; lungo il mare essi pascoleranno, nelle case di Ascalòna a sera riposeranno. Perché il Signore loro Dio li visiterà e li ricondurrà dall'esilio!
8 "I have heard the taunts of Moab and the revilings of the Ammonites, how they have taunted my people and made boasts against their territory.	8 Ho udito l'oltraggio di Moab e i sarcasmi dei figli di Ammon, con cui hanno oltraggiato il mio popolo, si sono inorgogliti contro il loro territorio!
9 Therefore, as I live," says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, "Moab shall become like Sodom, and the Ammonites like Gomorrah, a land possessed by nettles and salt pits, and a waste for ever. The remnant of my people shall plunder them, and the survivors of my nation shall possess them."	9 Perciò, come io vivo, oracolo del Signore, Dio d'Israele: Moab sarà come Sodoma e i figli di Ammon come Gomorra: un campo di cardi e un mucchio di sale e una desolazione perpetua! Il resto del mio popolo li deprederà, il rimanente della mia nazione se ne impadronirà!
10 This shall be their lot in return for their pride, because they scoffed and boasted against the people of the LORD of hosts.	10 Questa la loro sorte per il loro orgoglio, per l'oltraggio e perché si sono vantati contro il popolo del Signore degli eserciti!
11 The LORD will be terrible against them; yea, he will famish all the gods of the earth, and to him shall bow down, each in its place, all the lands of the nations.	11 E' apparso terribile il Signore sopra di loro. Certo sopprimerà tutti gli dèi della terra; verranno ad adorarlo, ciascuno partendo dalla propria sede, tutte le isole delle nazioni.
12 You also, O Ethiopians, shall be slain by my sword.	12 Anche voi, Etiopi, sarete vittime della spada del Signore!
13 And he will stretch out his hand against the north, and destroy Assyria; and he will make Nineveh a desolation, a dry waste like the desert.	13 Egli stenderà la sua mano verso il nord e abbatterà Assur; farà di Ninive un luogo abbandonato, una terra arida come il deserto!
14 Herds shall lie down in the midst of her, all the beasts of the field; the vulture and the hedgehog shall lodge in her capitals; the owl shall hoot in the window, the raven croak on the threshold; for her cedar work will be laid bare.	14 Vi si accovacceranno le greggi, tutti gli animali della valle; anche il pellicano, anche il riccio fra le sue sculture passeranno la notte; il gufo manderà grida dalla finestra, il corvo sulla soglia, perché il suo cedro è stato spogliato!
15 This is the exultant city that dwelt secure, that said to herself, "I am and there is none else." What a desolation she has become, a lair for wild beasts! Every one who passes by her hisses and shakes his fist.	15 Questa è la città spensierata che troneggiava sicura, che pensava in cuor suo: "Io, e non v'è nessun altro!". Com'è diventata un deserto, un covo per gli animali! Tutti quelli che le passano vicino fischiettano e agitano la mano!
