Zephaniah 2

1 Come together and hold assembly, O shameless nation,	1 Du gleichgültiges Volk, sammelt euch, tut euch zusammen,
2 before you are driven away like the drifting chaff, before there comes upon you the fierce anger of the LORD, before there comes upon you the day of the wrath of the LORD.	2 ehe ihr zerstreut werdet und zerstiebt wie Spreu, ehe der glühende Zorn des Herrn über euch kommt, ehe über euch der Tag des glühenden Zornes des Herrn kommt.
3 Seek the LORD, all you humble of the land, who do his commands; seek righteousness, seek humility; perhaps you may be hidden on the day of the wrath of the LORD.	3 Sucht den Herrn, ihr Gedemütigten im Land, die ihr nach dem Recht des Herrn lebt. Sucht Gerechtigkeit, sucht Demut! Vielleicht bleibt ihr geborgen am Tag des Zornes des Herrn.
4 For Gaza shall be deserted, and Ashkelon shall become a desolation; Ashdod's people shall be driven out at noon, and Ekron shall be uprooted.	4 Ja, Gaza wird verlassen sein und Aschkelon wird eine Wüste, am hellen Mittag treibt man Aschdods Einwohner fort und Ekron ackert man um.
5 Woe to you inhabitants of the seacoast, you nation of the Cherethites! The word of the LORD is against you, O Canaan, land of the Philistines; and I will destroy you till no inhabitant is left.	5 Weh euch, die ihr das Gebiet am Meer bewohnt, ihr Volk der Kereter. Das Wort des Herrn richtet sich gegen euch: Kanaan, Land der Philister, ich richte dich zugrunde, keiner deiner Bewohner bleibt übrig.
6 And you, O seacoast, shall be pastures, meadows for shepherds and folds for flocks.	6 Das Kereterland wird zum Weideland der Hirten, es gibt nur noch Pferche für Schafe und Ziegen.
7 The seacoast shall become the possession of the remnant of the house of Judah, on which they shall pasture, and in the houses of Ashkelon they shall lie down at evening. For the LORD their God will be mindful of them and restore their fortunes.	7 Das Gebiet am Meer fällt dem Rest des Hauses Juda zu. Sie treiben ihre Herden dorthin und suchen am Abend ein Lager in Aschkelons Häusern. Denn der Herr, ihr Gott, kümmert sich um sie und wendet ihr Geschick.
8 "I have heard the taunts of Moab and the revilings of the Ammonites, how they have taunted my people and made boasts against their territory.	8 Ich habe den Hohn Moabs gehört und die Schimpfworte der Ammoniter, die mein Volk verhöhnten und große Reden führten gegen sein Land.
9 Therefore, as I live," says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, "Moab shall become like Sodom, and the Ammonites like Gomorrah, a land possessed by nettles and salt pits, and a waste for ever. The remnant of my people shall plunder them, and the survivors of my nation shall possess them."	9 Darum - Spruch des Herrn der Heere, des Gottes Israels: So wahr ich lebe: Moab wird wie Sodom werden und die Ammoniter wie Gomorra, ein Ort des Unkrauts, eine Salzgrube und eine Wüste für immer. Der Rest meines Volkes wird sie ausplündern, der Überrest meines Volkes wird sie beerben.
10 This shall be their lot in return for their pride, because they scoffed and boasted against the people of the LORD of hosts.	10 Das ist die Strafe für ihren Hochmut; denn sie höhnten und führten große Reden gegen das Volk des Herrn der Heere.
11 The LORD will be terrible against them; yea, he will famish all the gods of the earth, and to him shall bow down, each in its place, all the lands of the nations.	11 Furcht erregend tritt der Herr gegen sie auf. Ja, er vernichtet alle Götter der Erde und alle Völker der Inseln werfen sich nieder vor ihm, jedes an seinem Ort.
12 You also, O Ethiopians, shall be slain by my sword.	12 Auch ihr Kuschiter werdet von meinem Schwert durchbohrt.
13 And he will stretch out his hand against the north, and destroy Assyria; and he will make Nineveh a desolation, a dry waste like the desert.	13 Er streckt seine Hand auch nach Norden aus und vernichtet Assur und Ninive macht er zur Öde, es verdorrt wie die Wüste.
14 Herds shall lie down in the midst of her, all the beasts of the field; the vulture and the hedgehog shall lodge in her capitals; the owl shall hoot in the window, the raven croak on the threshold; for her cedar work will be laid bare.	14 Dort lagern Herden, Tiere aller Art, auf den Kapitellen der Säulen nächtigen Eule und Dohle. Laut schreit es im Fenster, ein Rabe krächzt auf der Schwelle. [Denn das Zederngetäfel ist weg.]
15 This is the exultant city that dwelt secure, that said to herself, "I am and there is none else." What a desolation she has become, a lair for wild beasts! Every one who passes by her hisses and shakes his fist.	15 Das also ist die fröhliche Stadt, die sich in Sicherheit wiegte, die dachte: Ich und sonst niemand! Welch eine Wüste ist sie geworden, ein Lager für die wilden Tiere. Jeder, der dort vorbeikommt, pfeift und hebt entsetzt seine Hand.
