1 Then drew near the daughters of Zelophehad the son of Hepher, son of Gilead, son of Machir, son of Manasseh, from the families of Manasseh the son of Joseph. The names of his daughters were: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.	1 Eljöttek ekkor Celofhád lányai – Celofhád Hefernek volt a fia, az meg Gileádnak a fia, az meg Mákirnak a fia, az meg Manasszénak a fia, az meg Józsefnek volt a fia – név szerint Maála, Noa, Hegla, Melka és Tirca
2 And they stood before Moses, and before Eleazar the priest, and before the leaders and all the congregation, at the door of the tent of meeting, saying,	2 és megálltak Mózes, Eleazár pap és a nép valamennyi fejedelme előtt a szövetség sátrának ajtajánál és azt mondták:
3 "Our father died in the wilderness; he was not among the company of those who gathered themselves together against the LORD in the company of Korah, but died for his own sin; and he had no sons.	3 »Atyánk meghalt a pusztában, de nem volt részes abban a lázadásban, amely Kóré alatt az Úr ellen támadt, hanem a maga bűnéért halt meg; fiú utóda nem volt neki.
4 Why should the name of our father be taken away from his family, because he had no son? Give to us a possession among our father's brethren."	4 Miért tűnjék el neve az ő nemzetségéből, azért, hogy fia nem volt? Adjatok majd nekünk birtokot atyánk rokonai között!«
5 Moses brought their case before the LORD.	5 Mózes erre elvitte ügyüket az Úr ítélete elé,
6 And the LORD said to Moses,	6 s az Úr ezt mondta neki:
7 "The daughters of Zelophehad are right; you shall give them possession of an inheritance among their father's brethren and cause the inheritance of their father to pass to them.	7 »Igazságos dolgot kívánnak Celofhád lányai: adj majd nekik birtokot atyjuk rokonai között, s lépjenek örökébe.
8 And you shall say to the people of Israel, 'If a man dies, and has no son, then you shall cause his inheritance to pass to his daughter.	8 Izrael fiainak pedig mondd meg a következőket: Ha valaki fiúgyermek nélkül hal meg, lányára szálljon öröksége;
9 And if he has no daughter, then you shall give his inheritance to his brothers.	9 ha lánya sincs, a fivérei legyenek az örökösei,
10 And if he has no brothers, then you shall give his inheritance to his father's brothers.	10 ha fivérei sincsenek, atyja fivéreinek adjátok az örökséget;
11 And if his father has no brothers, then you shall give his inheritance to his kinsman that is next to him of his family, and he shall possess it. And it shall be to the people of Israel a statute and ordinance, as the LORD commanded Moses.'"	11 ha pedig atyjának sincsenek fivérei, akkor az örökséget azoknak kell adni, akik legközelebb állnak hozzá. Örök törvény által szentesített dolog legyen ez Izrael fiai között, amint az Úr parancsolta Mózesnek.«
12 The LORD said to Moses, "Go up into this mountain of Abarim, and see the land which I have given to the people of Israel.	12 Majd azt mondta az Úr Mózesnek: »Eredj fel erre az Abárim hegyre, s tekintsd meg onnan azt a földet, amelyet majd Izrael fiainak adok.
13 And when you have seen it, you also shall be gathered to your people, as your brother Aaron was gathered,	13 Ha aztán megnézted, te is megtérsz népedhez, mint ahogy megtért bátyád, Áron,
14 because you rebelled against my word in the wilderness of Zin during the strife of the congregation, to sanctify me at the waters before their eyes." (These are the waters of Meribah of Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin.)	14 mivel megbántottatok engem a Szín-pusztában, a sokaság pörölésekor, s nem akartatok szentnek bizonyítani előtte a vízfakasztás alkalmával.« – Ez a Pörölés-vize, Kádesben, a Szín-pusztában.
15 Moses said to the LORD,	15 Mózes azt felelte az Úrnak:
16 "Let the LORD, the God of the spirits of all flesh, appoint a man over the congregation,	16 »Rendeljen tehát az Úr, minden test lelkének Istene, valakit e fölé a nép fölé,
17 who shall go out before them and come in before them, who shall lead them out and bring them in; that the congregation of the LORD may not be as sheep which have no shepherd."	17 hogy kimenjen és bemenjen előttük, kivezesse vagy bevezesse őket, hogy ne legyen az Úr népe olyan, mint a pásztor nélküli juhnyáj.«
18 And the LORD said to Moses, "Take Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit, and lay your hand upon him;	18 Azt mondta erre neki az Úr: »Vedd Józsuét, Nún fiát, azt a férfit, akiben lélek van és tedd rá kezedet –
19 cause him to stand before Eleazar the priest and all the congregation, and you shall commission him in their sight.	19 eközben ő Eleazár pap és az egész közösség előtt álljon –,
20 You shall invest him with some of your authority, that all the congregation of the people of Israel may obey.	20 s adj neki megbízást mindenki láttára, meg egy részt a te méltóságodból, hogy hallgasson rá Izrael fiainak egész gyülekezete.
21 And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall inquire for him by the judgment of the Urim before the LORD; at his word they shall go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he and all the people of Israel with him, the whole congregation."	21 Ha aztán valamit tenni kell, kérjen számára Eleazár pap tanácsot az Úrtól: annak válasza szerint menjen ki vagy menjen be ő és vele Izrael valamennyi fia meg az egész közösség.«
22 And Moses did as the LORD commanded him; he took Joshua and caused him to stand before Eleazar the priest and the whole congregation,	22 Úgy tett Mózes, ahogy az Úr parancsolta: vette Józsuét, odaállította Eleazár pap és a nép egész sokasága elé,
23 and he laid his hands upon him, and commissioned him as the LORD directed through Moses.	23 rátette a fejére a kezét, és megismételte mindazt, amit az Úr parancsolt.
