Jeremiah 6

1 Flee for safety, O people of Benjamin, from the midst of Jerusalem! Blow the trumpet in Tekoa, and raise a signal on Beth-haccherem; for evil looms out of the north, and great destruction.	1 Trinceratevi, o figli di Beniamino, dentro Gerusalemme, sonate la tromba in Tecua, sopra Betacarem alzate la bandiera, perchè la sventura è apparsa dal settentrione e la grande rovina.
2 The comely and delicately bred I will destroy, the daughter of Zion.	2 A una donna bella e delicata io paragono la figlia di Sion.
3 Shepherds with their flocks shall come against her; they shall pitch their tents around her, they shall pasture, each in his place.	3 Ad essa verranno i pastori con i loro greggi, intorno a lei pianteranno le tende, ciascuno farà pascolare quelli che ha sotto di sè.
4 "Prepare war against her; up, and let us attack at noon!" "Woe to us, for the day declines, for the shadows of evening lengthen!"	4 Cominciate contro di essa la guerra, sorgete, diamo l'assalto sul mezzo del giorno. Guai a noi, chè il giorno declina, e diventan sempre più lunghe le ombre della sera.
5 "Up, and let us attack by night, and destroy her palaces!"	5 Sorgete, diamo la scalata durante la notte, distruggiamo i suoi palazzi.
6 For thus says the LORD of hosts: "Hew down her trees; cast up a siege mound against Jerusalem. This is the city which must be punished; there is nothing but oppression within her.	6 Infatti così dice il Signore degli eserciti: « Tagliatene le piante, alzate le trincee intorno a Gerusalemme; questa è la città destinata al castigo, regnando in essa ogni sorta d'oppressione.
7 As a well keeps its water fresh, so she keeps fresh her wickedness; violence and destruction are heard within her; sickness and wounds are ever before me.	7 Come la cisterna rende fresche le sue acque, così essa rende sempre fresca la sua malizia: dentro di lei non si sente che violenze e oppressioni, e dinanzi a me c'è sempre gente afflitta e straziata.
8 Be warned, O Jerusalem, lest I be alienated from you; lest I make you a desolation, an uninhabited land."	8 Imparalo Gerusalemme, se non vuoi che io mi ritiri da te e ti renda un deserto, una terra inabitabile ».
9 Thus says the LORD of hosts: "Glean thoroughly as a vine the remnant of Israel; like a grape-gatherer pass your hand again over its branches."	9 Così parla il Signore degli eserciti: « Come in una vigna sino ad un gracimolo saran presi gli avanzi d'Israele: rimetti le tue mani, come il vendemmiatore, nel canestro.
10 To whom shall I speak and give warning, that they may hear? Behold, their ears are closed, they cannot listen; behold, the word of the LORD is to them an object of scorn, they take no pleasure in it.	10 A chi parlerò? Chi scongiurerò ad ascoltarmi? Ecco sono incirconcise le loro orecchie, e sono incapaci di stare a sentire, ecco che la parola del Signore è da loro schernita, e non la riceveranno.
11 Therefore I am full of the wrath of the LORD; I am weary of holding it in. "Pour it out upon the children in the street, and upon the gatherings of young men, also; both husband and wife shall be taken, the old folk and the very aged.	11 Per questo io son pieno del furore del Signore, duro fatica a contenerlo: effondilo sopra i bambini per le strade, sopra le adunate della gioventù: sarà preso l'uomo e la donna, il vecchio e l'uomo sazio di vivere.
12 Their houses shall be turned over to others, their fields and wives together; for I will stretch out my hand against the inhabitants of the land," says the LORD.	12 Le loro case passeranno ad altri, così i campi e anche le mogli, perchè io stenderò la mia mano sopra gli abitanti della terra — dice il Signore, —
13 "For from the least to the greatest of them, every one is greedy for unjust gain; and from prophet to priest, every one deals falsely.	13 perchè dal più piccolo al più grande tutti si son dati all'avarizia, e, dal profeta al sacerdote, tutti agiscono con inganno;
14 They have healed the wound of my people lightly, saying, 'Peace, peace,' when there is no peace.	14 e han curata con scherni la piaga della figlia del mio popolo, dicendo: Pace, pace, e di pace non ce n'era punto.
15 Were they ashamed when they committed abomination? No, they were not at all ashamed; they did not know how to blush. Therefore they shall fall among those who fall; at the time that I punish them, they shall be overthrown," says the LORD.	15 Essi dovrebbero arrossire d'aver fatto cose abominevoli; ma invece la stessa confusione non li ha confusi, non han conosciuta vergogna. Per questo cadranno fra quelli che rovinano, saranno atterrati nel giorno del loro castigo — dice il Signore ».
16 Thus says the LORD: "Stand by the roads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is; and walk in it, and find rest for your souls. But they said, 'We will not walk in it.'	16 Ecco quanto dice il Signore: « State sulle strade ed esaminate, informatevi sulle vie antiche quale sia la buona strada, e seguitela, e troverete del refrigerio per le anime vostre ». Ed essi a rispondere: « Non ci cammineremo ».
17 I set watchmen over you, saying, 'Give heed to the sound of the trumpet!' But they said, 'We will not give heed.'	17 Ed io ho stabilite sopra di voi delle sentinelle, « state attenti al suono della tromba » ed essi a dire: « Non ci staremo attenti ».
18 Therefore hear, O nations, and know, O congregation, what will happen to them.	18 Allora, ascoltate, o nazioni, sappiate, o adunanze (di popoli), quanto io farò loro.
19 Hear, O earth; behold, I am bringing evil upon this people, the fruit of their devices, because they have not given heed to my words; and as for my law, they have rejected it.	19 Ascolta, o terra: ecco che io faccio venire la sventura sopra a questo popolo, il frutto dei suoi pensieri, perchè non han dato retta alle mie parole, han rigettata la mia legge.
20 To what purpose does frankincense come to me from Sheba, or sweet cane from a distant land? Your burnt offerings are not acceptable, nor your sacrifices pleasing to me.	20 Perchè mi portate l'incenso da Saba, la canna odorosa da lontano paese? I vostri olocausti non mi sono accetti, non mi piacciono le vostre vittime.
21 Therefore thus says the LORD: 'Behold, I will lay before this people stumbling blocks against which they shall stumble; fathers and sons together, neighbor and friend shall perish.'"	21 Per questo così parla il Signore: « Ecco io metterò davanti a questo popolo delle rovine, e vi cadranno insieme i padri e figli, i vicini e i prossimi vi periranno ».
22 Thus says the LORD: "Behold, a people is coming from the north country, a great nation is stirring from the farthest parts of the earth.	22 Queste cose dice il Signore: « Ecco che un popolo viene dalla, terra del settentrione, una grande nazione si innoverà dall'estremità della terra.
23 They lay hold on bow and spear, they are cruel and have no mercy, the sound of them is like the roaring sea; they ride upon horses, set in array as a man for battle, against you, O daughter of Zion!"	23 Maneggerà le frecce e lo scudo: è crudele e non si lascerà impietosire. La sua voce rimbomberà come il mare; saliranno sopra i cavalli, preparati a combattere come uomini contro di te, o figlia di Sion.
24 We have heard the report of it, our hands fall helpless; anguish has taken hold of us, pain as of a woman in travail.	24 A sentire parlare della sua fama ci son cascate le braccia, ci hanno oppressi le angosce, i dolori come di partoriente.
25 Go not forth into the field, nor walk on the road; for the enemy has a sword, terror is on every side.	25 Non uscite alla campagna, non andate per le strade, perchè la spada del nemico e lo spavento è nei dintorni.
26 O daughter of my people, gird on sackcloth, and roll in ashes; make mourning as for an only son, most bitter lamentation; for suddenly the destroyer will come upon us.	26 O figlia del mio popolo, vestiti di cilizio, copriti di cenere, prendi il lutto (come pei' la morte) d'un figlio unico, piangi amaramente, perchè all'improvviso lo sterminatore verrà sopra di noi.
27 "I have made you an assayer and tester among my people, that you may know and assay their ways.	27 Io ti ho costituito forte saggiatore in mezzo al mio popolo, esaminerai e proverai la loro condotta.
28 They are all stubbornly rebellious, going about with slanders; they are bronze and iron, all of them act corruptly.	28 Tutti questi principi van fuori di strada, agiscono con frode: rame e ferro, son tutti corrotti.
29 The bellows blow fiercely, the lead is consumed by the fire; in vain the refining goes on, for the wicked are not removed.	29 Il mantice è venuto meno, il piombo si è consunto nel fuoco, invano li ha fusi il fonditore; le loro malvagità non son state consunte.
30 Refuse silver they are called, for the LORD has rejected them."	30 Chiamateli argento di rifiuto, perchè il Signore li ha rigettati.
