Isaiah 24

1 Behold, the LORD will lay waste the earth and make it desolate, and he will twist its surface and scatter its inhabitants.	1 Ecco, il Signore desolerà e spoglierà la terra, ne renderà afflitta la faccia, ne sperderà gli abitanti.
2 And it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest; as with the slave, so with his master; as with the maid, so with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the lender, so with the borrower; as with the creditor, so with the debtor.	2 E sarà come il popolo cosi il sacerdote, come il servo così il suo padrone, come la serva così la sua padrona, chi compra come chi vende, chi presta come chi prende in prestito, il creditore cóme il debitore.
3 The earth shall be utterly laid waste and utterly despoiled; for the LORD has spoken this word.	3 La terra sarà completamente devastata, e del tutto saccheggiata, perchè il Signore ha pronunziata questa parola.
4 The earth mourns and withers, the world languishes and withers; the heavens languish together with the earth.	4 La terra è in lacrime, si strugge, vien meno, si dissolve il mondo, le altezze del popolo della terra sono state abbassate.
5 The earth lies polluted under its inhabitants; for they have transgressed the laws, violated the statutes, broken the everlasting covenant.	5 La terra è contaminata dai suoi abitanti, che han trasgredite le leggi, han cambiato il diritto,infranto il patto eterno.
6 Therefore a curse devours the earth, and its inhabitants suffer for their guilt; therefore the inhabitants of the earth are scorched, and few men are left.	6 Per questo la maledizione divoreràla terra, e peccheranno i suoi abitanti, e impazziranno quelliche vi dimorano, e gli uomini re­steranno in pochi.
7 The wine mourns, the vine languishes, all the merry-hearted sigh.	7 La vendemmia è in lutto, la vite ha perduto il vigore, sono tutti in pianti quel­li che avevan la gioia nel cuore.
8 The mirth of the timbrels is stilled, the noise of the jubilant has ceased, the mirth of the lyre is stilled.	8 E' cessata l'allegria dei timpani, è finito il chiasso dei festanti, tace l'armonia della cetra.
9 No more do they drink wine with singing; strong drink is bitter to those who drink it.	9 Non più berranno vino cantando, la bevanda sarà amara per chi la beve.
10 The city of chaos is broken down, every house is shut up so that none can enter.	10 La città della vanità è desolata, tutte le case son chiuse, e nessuno v'entra.
11 There is an outcry in the streets for lack of wine; all joy has reached its eventide; the gladness of the earth is banished.	11 Vi saran lamenti riguardo al vino sulle piazze, ogni allegrezza è sbandita, è stata portata via l'allegrezza della terra.
12 Desolation is left in the city, the gates are battered into ruins.	12 Nella città c'è rimasta la solitudine, la sventura ne opprime le porte;
13 For thus it shall be in the midst of the earth among the nations, as when an olive tree is beaten, as at the gleaning when the vintage is done.	13 infatti avverrà in mezzo alla terra, in mezzo ai popoli, come quando sono battute sull'olivo le poche olive rimaste, e si racimola, finita la vendemmia.
14 They lift up their voices, they sing for joy; over the majesty of the LORD they shout from the west.	14 Questi alzeranno la loro voce e canteranno, tripudieranno dal mare per la gloria del Signor:
15 Therefore in the east give glory to the LORD; in the coastlands of the sea, to the name of the LORD, the God of Israel.	15 « per questo colla dottrina glorificate il Signore; nelle isole del mare, il nome del Signore Dio d'Israele ».
16 From the ends of the earth we hear songs of praise, of glory to the Righteous One. But I say, "I pine away, I pine away. Woe is me! For the treacherous deal treacherously, the treacherous deal very treacherously."	16 Dall'estremità della terra abbiamo sentito dei cantici a gloria del giusto ed io ho detto: « Il mio segreto è per me, il mio segreto è per me. Guai a me! I prevaricatori han seguitato a prevaricare, e han prevaricato con prevaricazione da trasgressori.
17 Terror, and the pit, and the snare are upon you, O inhabitant of the earth!	17 Terrore e fossa e laccio addosso a te, abitante della terra.
18 He who flees at the sound of the terror shall fall into the pit; and he who climbs out of the pit shall be caught in the snare. For the windows of heaven are opened, and the foundations of the earth tremble.	18 E chi fuggira al grido di terrore cadrà nella fossa, e chi potrà liberarsi dalla fossa sarà preso nel laccio, essendo aperte le cateratte del cielo, ed essendo scossi i fondamenti della terra.
19 The earth is utterly broken, the earth is rent asunder, the earth is violently shaken.	19 Con gran fracasso la terra andrà in frantumi, la terra si spaccherà con grandi fessure crollerà sconvolgendosi la terra.
20 The earth staggers like a drunken man, it sways like a hut; its transgression lies heavy upon it, and it falls, and will not rise again.	20 La terra sarà in grande agitazione come un briaco, e muterà di posto come la tenda d'una notte, sarà oppressa dalla sua iniquità, cadrà senza potersi rialzare.
21 On that day the LORD will punish the host of heaven, in heaven, and the kings of the earth, on the earth.	21 E in quel giorno il Signore visiterà nell'alto la milizia del cielo, e sulla terra il re del mondo,
22 They will be gathered together as prisoners in a pit; they will be shut up in a prison, and after many days they will be punished.	22 e saranno accatastati in un sol fascio nella fossa, vi saran chiusi in prigione, e dopo molto tempo saran visitati.
23 Then the moon will be confounded, and the sun ashamed; for the LORD of hosts will reign on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem and before his elders he will manifest his glory.	23 E la luna arrossirà, il sole sarà confuso, quando il Signore degli eserciti regnerà sul monte Sion e in Gerusalemme e sarà glorificato nel cospetto dei suoi anziani.
