Sirach 5

1 Do not set your heart on your wealth, nor say, "I have enough."	1 Non attendere alle inique possessioni, e non dirai: la vita mi basta; nulla ti gioverae questo nel tempo della vendetta e della morte.
2 Do not follow your inclination and strength, walking according to the desires of your heart.	2 Non seguirai nella fortitudine tua la concupiscenza del cuore tuo.
3 Do not say, "Who will have power over me?" for the Lord will surely punish you.	3 E non dirai: quanto posso io! or chi sottometterae me per li miei fatti? Per che Iddio giudicante vendicherae.
4 Do not say, "I sinned, and what happened to me?" for the Lord is slow to anger.	4 Non dire or io peccai; che cosa trista per quello m'avvenne? Però che l' Altissimo è paziente meritatore.
5 Do not be so confident of atonement that you add sin to sin.	5 Nello umiliamento de' peccatori non essere tu sanza paura; non accumulare peccato sopra peccato,
6 Do not say, "His mercy is great, he will forgive the multitude of my sins," for both mercy and wrath are with him, and his anger rests on sinners.	6 dicendo: la misericordia di Dio è grande egli averà misericordia della moltitudine de' miei peccati.
7 Do not delay to turn to the Lord, nor postpone it from day to day; for suddenly the wrath of the Lord will go forth, and at the time of punishment you will perish.	7 Però che la misericordia e l'ira di colui tosto s' approssima; e l'ira sua guata nelli peccatori.
8 Do not depend on dishonest wealth, for it will not benefit you in the day of calamity.	8 Non tardare di convertirti a Dio, e non t' indugiare di dì in dì.
9 Do not winnow with every wind, nor follow every path: the double-tongued sinner does that.	9 Però che subito viene l'ira di colui; e nel tempo della vendetta disperderae te.
10 Be steadfast in your understanding, and let your speech be consistent.	10 Non essere sollecito nelle ingiuste ricchezze; nulla per certo ti gioveranno nel dì della morte e della vendetta.
11 Be quick to hear, and be deliberate in answering.	11 Non ti ventolare in ogni vento, e non andare in ogni via; in questo modo si prova, quando il peccatore è di doppia lingua.
12 If you have understanding, answer your neighbor; but if not, put your hand on your mouth.	12 Sii fermo nella via di Dio, e nella verità del senno tuo e nella scienza; e sèguitino te parole di pace e di giustizia.
13 Glory and dishonor come from speaking, and a man's tongue is his downfall.	13 Sii mansueto ad udire la parola (di Dio), acciò che tu intenda, e con sapienza proferi vera risposta.
14 Do not be called a slanderer, and do not lie in ambush with your tongue; for shame comes to the thief, and severe condemnation to the double-tongued.	14 Se tu hai intelletto, rispondi al prossimo; e se non, poni la mano tua sopra la bocca tua, acciò che tu non sia preso nel parlare sciocco, e sia tu confuso.
15 In great and small matters do not act amiss, and do not become an enemy instead of a friend.	15 Onore e gloria è nel sermone savio; ma la lingua del matto è sua sovversione.
	16 Non si chiamato biasimatore altrui (in tua vita), acciò che per la tua lingua non si preso, nel favellare) e confuso.
	17 Sopra al ladro sì è confusione e pentimento, e al doppio infamia pessima; e allo biasimatore (e allo iscommettitore) sì è voluto male, e fatto ingiuria e villania.
	18 Al picciolo e al grande insiememente loda.
