Sirach 15

1 The man who fears the Lord will do this, and he who holds to the law will obtain wisdom.	1 Chi teme Dio farà queste buone cose, e chi esattamente osserva la giustizia, possederà la sapienza,
2 She will come to meet him like a mother, and like the wife of his youth she will welcome him.	2 Perocché ella gli anderà incontro qual veneranda madre, e qual vergine sposa lo accoglierà.
3 She will feed him with the bread of understanding, and give him the water of wisdom to drink.	3 Lo nudrirà con pane di vita, e di intelligenza, e daragli da bere dell'acqua di saggezza, e di salute, e in lui fisserà sua sede, ed ei sarà stabile:
4 He will lean on her and will not fall, and he will rely on her and will not be put to shame.	4 E sarà suo sostegno, ed ei non sarà confuso: ed ella lo farà grande tra' suoi fratelli.
5 She will exalt him above his neighbors, and will open his mouth in the midst of the assembly.	5 Ella aprirà a lui la bocca in mezzo alla adunanza, riempiendolo di spirito di saggezza, e di intelligenza, e lo rivestirà del manto di gloria.
6 He will find gladness and a crown of rejoicing, and will acquire an everlasting name.	6 Ella gli accumulerà tesoro di consolazione, e di gaudio, e un nome eterno darà a lui in retaggio.
7 Foolish men will not obtain her, and sinful men will not see her.	7 Gli uomini stolti non ne faranno acquisto; ma i prudenti le anderanno incontro: gli stolti non la vedranno, perché ella si tien lontana dalla superbia, e dalla frode.
8 She is far from men of pride, and liars will never think of her.	8 I mentitori non faranno menzione di lei; ma gli uomini veritieri si troveranno con lei, e anderanno di bene in meglio fino a veder Dio.
9 A hymn of praise is not fitting on the lips of a sinner, for it has not been sent from the Lord.	9 Nulla ha di bello la lode in bocca del peccatore.
10 For a hymn of praise should be uttered in wisdom, and the Lord will prosper it.	10 Perocché da Dio è la sapienza, e colla sapienza va di conserva la lode di Dio, la quale empierà la bocca dell'uom fedele, e a lui la ispirerà il Signore.
11 Do not say, "Because of the Lord I left the right way"; for he will not do what he hates.	11 Non istar a dire: da Dio viene, che (la sapienza) lungi si sta. Imperocché non far tu quello, che egli odia.
12 Do not say, "It was he who led me astray"; for he had no need of a sinful man.	12 Non istar a dire: egli mi ha indotto in errore: perocché non ha egli bisogno, che vi sia degli uomini empj.
13 The Lord hates all abominations, and they are not loved by those who fear him.	13 Il Signore odia ogni malvagità, la quale non sarà amata nemmen da quelli, che hanno il timore di lui.
14 It was he who created man in the beginning, and he left him in the power of his own inclination.	14 Dio da principio creò l'uomo, e lascollo in potere de' suoi consiglj.
15 If you will, you can keep the commandments, and to act faithfully is a matter of your own choice.	15 Gli diede di più i suoi precetti, e comandamenti.
16 He has placed before you fire and water: stretch out your hand for whichever you wish.	16 Se serbando costantemente la fedeltà, che a lui piace, vorrai custodire i comandamenti, ei saran tua salute:
17 Before a man are life and death, and whichever he chooses will be given to him.	17 Egli ha messo davanti a te l'acqua, e il fuoco: prendi qual più ti piace.
18 For great is the wisdom of the Lord; he is mighty in power and sees everything;	18 Dinanzi all'uomo sta la vita, e la morte, e saragli dato quei, che egli eleggerà:
19 his eyes are on those who fear him, and he knows every deed of man.	19 Perocché la sapienza di Dio è grande, ed egli è forte in sua possanza, e vede tutti continuamente.
20 He has not commanded any one to be ungodly, and he has not given any one permission to sin.	20 Gli occhi del Signore sono rivolti verso di quei, che lo temono, ed egli tutte osserva le opere degli uomini.
	21 Egli a nissuno ha comandato di vivere da empio, e a nissuno ha dato un tempo per peccare:
	22 Perocché non ama egli di avere molti figliuoli infedeli, e disutili.
