Sirach 15

1 The man who fears the Lord will do this, and he who holds to the law will obtain wisdom.	1 - Chi teme il Signore farà il bene, e chi osserva la giustizia raggiungerà la sapienza.
2 She will come to meet him like a mother, and like the wife of his youth she will welcome him.	2 Ella gli si farà incontro come madre venerata, e come vergine sposa raccoglierà.
3 She will feed him with the bread of understanding, and give him the water of wisdom to drink.	3 Lo nutrirà col pane della vita e dell'intelligenza, e con acqua di salutare sapienza, gli darà da bere. E si raffermerà in lui, ed ei non piegherà,
4 He will lean on her and will not fall, and he will rely on her and will not be put to shame.	4 e lo sosterrà e non sarà confuso. E l'esalterà tra i suoi simili,
5 She will exalt him above his neighbors, and will open his mouth in the midst of the assembly.	5 e nel mezzo dell'adunanza aprirà la bocca di lui. E lo riempirà dello spirito di sapienza e d'intelligenza, e col manto della gloria lo rivestirà.
6 He will find gladness and a crown of rejoicing, and will acquire an everlasting name.	6 Gioia e allegrezza accumulerà su lui, e un nome imperituro gli darà in retaggio.
7 Foolish men will not obtain her, and sinful men will not see her.	7 Gli stolti non lo raggiungeranno, e gli assennati l'incontreranno. Gli stolti non la vedranno, perchè lontana ella sta dalla superbia e dalla frode.
8 She is far from men of pride, and liars will never think of her.	8 I bugiardi non si ricorderanno di lei, e gli uomini sinceri si troveranno con essa, e prospereranno sino alla visita di Dio.
9 A hymn of praise is not fitting on the lips of a sinner, for it has not been sent from the Lord.	9 Non è bella la lode in bocca del peccatore,
10 For a hymn of praise should be uttered in wisdom, and the Lord will prosper it.	10 perchè da Dio è venuta la sapienza. Alla sapienza invero s'accompagnerà la lode di Dio, e abbonderà sulla bocca del fedele, e il Signore gliela ispirerà.
11 Do not say, "Because of the Lord I left the right way"; for he will not do what he hates.	11 Non dire: «Per causa del Signore [la sapienza mi] mancai, perchè ciò ch'egli odia, tu non devi fare.
12 Do not say, "It was he who led me astray"; for he had no need of a sinful man.	12 Non dire: «È lui che m'ha sedotto», perch'egli non ha bisogno di uomini empi.
13 The Lord hates all abominations, and they are not loved by those who fear him.	13 Ogni abominazione l'odia il Signore, e non sarà amata da quei che lo temono.
14 It was he who created man in the beginning, and he left him in the power of his own inclination.	14 Iddio da principio creò l'uomo, e lo lasciò in mano del suo arbitrio.
15 If you will, you can keep the commandments, and to act faithfully is a matter of your own choice.	15 Aggiunse [però] i suoi comandamenti e i suoi precetti,
16 He has placed before you fire and water: stretch out your hand for whichever you wish.	16 Se tu vorrai, osserverai i suoi comandamenti, e il serbar fedeltà dipende dal tuo beneplacito.
17 Before a man are life and death, and whichever he chooses will be given to him.	17 Ti ha messo davanti l'acqua e il fuoco: a quel che tu vuoi, stendi la mano.
18 For great is the wisdom of the Lord; he is mighty in power and sees everything;	18 Di faccia all'uomo son la vita e la morte, il bene e il male: ciò che gli piacerà, gli sarà dato.
19 his eyes are on those who fear him, and he knows every deed of man.	19 Perchè grande è la sapienza del Signore, e forte egli è nella sua potenza e tutto vede.
20 He has not commanded any one to be ungodly, and he has not given any one permission to sin.	20 Gli occhi del Signore son [rivolti] a coloro che lo temono, ed egli conosce ogni opera dell'uomo.
	21 A nessuno ha comandato d'agire da empio, e a nessuno ha dato licenza di peccare.
	22 Non desidera infatti una turba di figliuoli infedeli e inutili.
