Proverbs 30

1 The words of Agur son of Jakeh of Massa. The man says to Ithi-el, to Ithi-el and Ucal:	1 A masszai Águrnak, Jáke fiának mondásai. Így szól a férfi, akivel Isten van, és mert Isten vele van, bátorsággal mondja:
2 Surely I am too stupid to be a man. I have not the understanding of a man.	2 Balgább vagyok, mint a többi ember, és nincsen emberi bölcsességem!
3 I have not learned wisdom, nor have I knowledge of the Holy One.	3 Nem tanultam bölcsességet, hogyan ismerném tehát a Legszentebbet?
4 Who has ascended to heaven and come down? Who has gathered the wind in his fists? Who has wrapped up the waters in a garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is his name, and what is his son's name? Surely you know!	4 Ki ment fel az égbe és szállott alá? A szelet ki gyűjtötte kezébe? A vizet ki kötötte mintegy köpenybe, ki állította föl a földnek minden szélét? Hogy hívják? És mi a neve a fiának, ha tudod?
5 Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.	5 Isten minden szava állja a tüzet, védőpajzs ő azoknak, akik benne bíznak.
6 Do not add to his words, lest he rebuke you, and you be found a liar.	6 Szavaihoz mit sem szabad hozzátenned, hogy meg ne korholjon és hazugságban ne maradj!
7 Two things I ask of thee; deny them not to me before I die:	7 Két dolgot kérek tőled, ne tagadd meg tőlem, mielőtt meghalok:
8 Remove far from me falsehood and lying; give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with the food that is needful for me,	8 Tartsd távol tőlem a hamisságot, hazugságot! Ne adj nekem se nyomort, se gazdagságot! Csak annyit adj ennem, amennyi elegendő,
9 lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, "Who is the LORD?" or lest I be poor, and steal, and profane the name of my God.	9 hogy jóllakván meg ne tagadjalak, és ne mondjam: »Ki az az Úr?« vagy szükségtől hajtva ne lopjak, és meg ne gyalázzam Istenem nevét!
10 Do not slander a servant to his master, lest he curse you, and you be held guilty.	10 Ne rágalmazd a szolgát uránál, hogy meg ne átkozzon, és meg ne bűnhődj!
11 There are those who curse their fathers and do not bless their mothers.	11 Olyan nemzedék ez, amely elátkozza atyját, és nem áldja anyját,
12 There are those who are pure in their own eyes but are not cleansed of their filth.	12 nemzedék, amely tiszta a saját szemében, pedig le nem mosta magáról szennyét,
13 There are those--how lofty are their eyes, how high their eyelids lift!	13 nemzedék, amely szemét magasan hordja, és felhúzza szemöldökét,
14 There are those whose teeth are swords, whose teeth are knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, the needy from among men.	14 nemzedék, amelynek foga megannyi kard, és álla csupa kés, hogy felfalja a nyomorgókat a földről, és a szegényeket az emberek közül.
15 The leech has two daughters; "Give, give," they cry. Three things are never satisfied; four never say, "Enough":	15 A piócának két leánya van, mindegyik azt mondja: »Ide vele! Ide vele!« Három az, ami telhetetlen, és négy, ami sohasem mondja: »elég!«:
16 Sheol, the barren womb, the earth ever thirsty for water, and the fire which never says, "Enough."	16 az alvilág, az anyaméh szája, a föld, amely nem tud betelni vízzel, s a tűz, amely sohasem mondja, hogy: »elég!«
17 The eye that mocks a father and scorns to obey a mother will be picked out by the ravens of the valley and eaten by the vultures.	17 A szemet, amely atyjából csúfot űz, és lenézi anyja szülését, vájják ki a patakok hollói, és falják fel a sasok fiai!
18 Three things are too wonderful for me; four I do not understand:	18 Három dolog nem fér a fejembe, és négyet sehogy sem értek:
19 the way of an eagle in the sky, the way of a serpent on a rock, the way of a ship on the high seas, and the way of a man with a maiden.	19 a sasnak útját az égen, a kígyó útját a sziklán, a hajó útját a tenger közepén, s a férfi útját a leánynál.
20 This is the way of an adulteress: she eats, and wipes her mouth, and says, "I have done no wrong."	20 Ilyen még a házasságtörő asszony útja is: eszik, megtörli száját, és így szól: »Semmi rosszat sem tettem!«
21 Under three things the earth trembles; under four it cannot bear up:	21 Három dolog alatt rendül meg a föld, és négyet nem tud elviselni:
22 a slave when he becomes king, and a fool when he is filled with food;	22 a rabszolgát, ha király lesz belőle, a balgát, ha jóllakik étellel,
23 an unloved woman when she gets a husband, and a maid when she succeeds her mistress.	23 a gyűlölt nőt, ha férjhez megy, s a rableányt, ha úrnője örökébe lép.
24 Four things on earth are small, but they are exceedingly wise:	24 Négy igen apró van a földön, de azért a bölcseknél is okosabb:
25 the ants are a people not strong, yet they provide their food in the summer;	25 erőtlen nép a hangya, de aratáskor gyűjti élelmét,
26 the badgers are a people not mighty, yet they make their homes in the rocks;	26 gyenge nép a szirti borz, mégis sziklába építi lakását,
27 the locusts have no king, yet all of them march in rank;	27 a sáskának nincsen királya, és raja mégis rendben vonul,
28 the lizard you can take in your hands, yet it is in kings' palaces.	28 a gyík kezével kapaszkodik, és ott van királyi palotákban.
29 Three things are stately in their tread; four are stately in their stride:	29 Hárman lépnek szépen, és négyen járnak délcegen:
30 the lion, which is mightiest among beasts and does not turn back before any;	30 az oroszlán, a hős az állatok között, nem hátrál meg senki elől,
31 the strutting cock, the he-goat, and a king striding before his people.	31 a kakas, amint a tyúkok között büszkén lépeget, a bak a kecskenyáj élén, s a király, ha kiáll népe elé.
32 If you have been foolish, exalting yourself, or if you have been devising evil, put your hand on your mouth.	32 Van, aki akkor bizonyul balgának, mikor magasra emelték: ha okos lett volna, kezét a szájára tette volna.
33 For pressing milk produces curds, pressing the nose produces blood, and pressing anger produces strife.	33 Aki fejés közben erősen nyomja a tőgyet, vajat szorít ki belőle. Aki erősen fújja orrát, vért nyom ki belőle. Aki az indulatot szítja, viszályt okoz.
